    get rid of the bar graphs and put in the hard data of a video or picture. Humans work on 2 points and honeybee 4 points. Some times the overall cluster tells more than counting populations just by zooming into the data missed by the graphs. Make a overlay of everything and get around genetic testing by computer program. Just like seeing 10,000 hives in one yard but no honeybee and see why it works from swarms.

    Minute 32:00 (multiple queens) If a queen lays 1500-2k eggs per day and a poor queen lays 1200ish, what size colonies are these "3 or 4 queen hives" and how should I adjust expectations based on earlier stats? ps: fantastic content! I have recently found the bug to want to go to some of these meetings. Thank you for helping the newbees.

    If hives are not your main living you shouldn't bee consider a beekeeper. CCD is a myth it's called the USDA imidacloprid.

    The results don't seem to make sense. The dye should be transmitted to the larvae. Is it possible that the larvae have some sort of a mechanism whereby the dye is rendered colorless? After all, the larvae are fed other colors of "real" pollen yet, they don't appear to take on those colors. Fascinating!

    • @r.r.s4812
      @r.r.s4812 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or, the bees eat and filter the pollen, then mix with enzymes and feed the bees that product. This is an experiment that would work well by feeding one hive pollen patty and the other nothing and see the difference in brood rearing.

    • @kaistumer198
      @kaistumer198 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@r.r.s4812 Larvae are feed from the mandribles and head glances, so the Food must first bee digested by the bees and tus the colorant can be filtered out.

    • @carambamboliyt
      @carambamboliyt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thus filtering technic feeding the larvae, is it not the same as feeding the queen? So, if the queen was fed stained feed, then the larvae would get the same!

    I love presentations like this, but when people ask questions during it it is not only rude, but for me some of the questions are hard to hear. They also stop the flow of the presentation. Write your question down and ask it at the end if questions from the floor are requested.

    I have searched on line for the book entitled, 1000 Years of Devon Beekeeping" by Ron Brown but it appears it is no longer in print. I checked my local library, and they looked at all libraries in the country. There is one copy available in UC Davis library. I live in New York. This poses a problem lol. Do you know of any other place I may find a copy? I am currently enrolled in Cornell University to attain my Master Beekeeper's Certificate. I would welcome any advice you may be able to offer. I would even welcome the opportunity to borrow a copy from anyone who may have one with the promise to return. Love your lectures. Thank you.

    I got into beekeeping in 2003, I am a tradesman and I had worn my right shoulder out to the point I did not know how much longer I could continue to work. I tried Bee stings on my shoulder everyday for some time until my shoulder started to swell up and I felt I should stop. About a year later I realised I could not remember the last time my shoulder hurt, The pain had just gradually faded away. I am now almost at retirement age and although my shoulder is not like it was when I was 20 it is actually pretty good all things considered. I was also getting arthritis in my wrists 20 years ago and that has also been arrested. I don't know where I would be today if I was not getting stung multiple times every year but I strongly suspect I would be much worse off than I am now..

    In Tasmania a bee yard is often set up in a circle or semi circle and in the middle is a 44 gallon drum with a sheet of iron on top to keep the rain out and thats the feeding station. Seem to work fine.
