Solway Lass Haulout 2024 p7, rig monkeys work hard as we sail back to Airley Beach.
มุมมอง 2054 หลายเดือนก่อน
I had a horrible feeling we'd still be working on Solway Lass as we sailed back to her home port, and sure enough we spent the beautiful days slaving away with a team of volunteers to try and finish the job and make the old girl look beautiful. #SolwayLass #tallship #painting
Solway Lass Haulout 2024 p6, claustrophobic dark haunted work as we get the old tub wet
มุมมอง 4764 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are forced to race against the clock, installing critical pipes and systems before the water tank is lowered. Anton helped us paint the new sections of hull in the creepy confined spaces. We then launched Solway Lass in pitch darkness hoping everything would work out... #Solwaylass #plumbing #marine
Solway Lass Haulout 2024 p5 RESCUED by our Boilermakers! Painting and getting the anchor chains in!
มุมมอง 1905 หลายเดือนก่อน
Unfortunately our deck welder left us before finishing the job but our awesome boiler makers finished welding up the hull and came to our rescue, building up the teeth on your 100 year old anchor winch and sorting out our turnbuckles to keep out rigging safe. Meanwhile the boys hooked into painting and general duties as we prepare to get off the slipway. #solwaylass #haulout
Solway Lass Haulout 2024 p4 WELDING NEW RIBS, Installing steering mechanism, Bilge system
มุมมอง 6455 หลายเดือนก่อน
We're welding in a brand new set of Ribs (Floors) into Solway Lass, ready to support the new thick hull plates. Propellor has come off. We have started putting Capain Anderson's Engine Room back together. The weather has been making our lives hard as we try to keep all our jobs moving along! #SolwayLass #marine #ship
Solway Lass Haulout 2024 p3 Welding stantions, mounting pumps, removing thruhulls and the rudder
มุมมอง 3035 หลายเดือนก่อน
Alan the Maori welder comes aboard to turn rusty bulwarks and stantions into solid stainless steel. We have to get the boat ready for him, removing complex rigging and old rails that have been there for 40 years. The fitters pull off the rudder and shaft for inspection while us sailors press on in the engine room. #SolwayLass
Solway Lass Haulout 2024 p2 Valves, ballast, chain & inspecting 122yo hull
มุมมอง 1.3K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
The haunted pirate Tallship Solway Lass begins her refit. Payed out all her chain from the 100 year old anchor winch. Pulled ancient bilge manifolds, through hulls and valves out of her spooky engine room for servicing. Removed 1.5 tons of lead ballast by hand and lifted a 3000 litre water tank to gain access to the 122 year old hull. #SolwayLass

Your videos have great potential but face challenges in reaching a wider audience Here are some possible reasons: 1. SEO Optimization 2. Target Audience Reach 3. Effective Use of Hashtags 4. Social Media sharing Addressing these areas can enhance your video's visibility and attract more viewers. If you need further assistance or have any questions, feel free to ask!
Thanks for the video mate i was wanting to do the same
It a pleasure mate 👍🍺
you said it..........these boats are wet & wild 🙂
Hell yeah bro 🤘😎
Here goes alot of my memories in the water whit a laser😂😅 incradebly fast but unstable.
@ois-jy9kl yeah super quick and super tippy
Alex Tried sending you photos of Solway lass rescue on Facebook message but for some reason won’t send Sorry Phil
Never understood how it ended up in Oz !
She was sailed to Fiji in the 70s to work as a coastal trader, her hull could handle the uncharted reefs. In 1980 Tim bought her and rebuilt her, then used her as a dinner boat in Sydney. Then Jim bought her in 99 and I helped him sail it to Airley
Thanks for link Where are 2 and 3 on the history videos ? I have actually been to the lifeboat station where they towed it in after the sad death and have a photo somewhere of it on their rescue plaque Will try and dig it out One guy remembered it being towed in and took hours due to its size and weight. Accept it is a trade secret, but when I saw Solway Lass on its last journey really thought that might be the end and never expected anyone to throw the love and money at it to give it a new life The passion in doing it all was worthy of it and yourselves Will hunt for photo Phil
Thank you Phil. We all thought that. A LOT of work and sacrifice went into that refit. We saved her. Only pt1 and 2 of the history vids are online. Rest are still in production. th-cam.com/play/PLB7p7OHuOnoXxwJ-Py5mOTnflu7xcLrCi.html&si=rYX5seMZHlE445kw
My great grandfather once owned this ship, and had the privilege of seeing it in Feb this year Capt Greenway whose photos are inside the boat were very moving to see So pleased you have all given it a new lease of life and maybe one day I may even sail on it Phil
th-cam.com/video/MMyopan_ibY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=u9kg87JMOnUrR7i1 Phil you may be interested to see Capt Greenway in this documentary on Solway Lass. Thank you for your comment. I would be interested in any history, images or stories you have of the boat.
This was super informative. I'm thinking of getting a sail for my kayak and have been umming and ahhig about selling it and getting the hobie... This may have convinced me to get the hobie😅
Cheers, the Hobie Island is far superior to modifying a kayak. If you want to sail, definately get the Hobie Island. If you just want to kayak and have some extra downwind push, put a sail on your kayak.
Amazing!!!
Thanks, was a huge project. Biggest project I've ever run.
Amazing! Good to see your work, Odin!
He did an amazing job! I'm so impressed by Odin.
I love this video! Just got my PG2 and live in South Australia
Good times bro. Paragliding is a load of fun, but always manage the risk.
A pirate teaching differential calculus?
Lol
@@Adventure_Bum looks like some very naughty sailors on that ship!
Thank you so much from Georgia United States.
I really appreciate the feedback James. Cheers mate 🍺😎👍
Well i'm late to the party by a year. was wondering what you'd been up to... I've been binge watching the series today, just wanted to say congratulations 😃 Great flight
Thank you. Good times! Worth the effort of making the videos
Why did you launch at night?
Timing of the high tide, need plenty of water to get off.
Nicely done
Thank you! Was a challenge
Great work fellers, well done 👏
Thank you, appreciate that. 👍🍺
Killed it with that crap music
Sorry you dont l8ke it, but its a very popular video.
@@Adventure_Bum oh i like the video just not the music 😉👌
Uff the amount of work that is being done is tremendous!
Thanks Juan. Brutal hard labour all day every day. Solway needs it
Decent project mate.
Thanks mate. Still going, big job!
Great video and great point of view. I want to start learning in Sydney!!
Enjoy bro!
The big black duck wanted to sleep in your bed Alex. Cuddle time!
Lol, it was after my girlfriend
@@Adventure_Bum probably wanted to bite her toes off
Maybe Klaus Stoertebeker sailed the Solway at one stage? ;)
Who is that? Curious
@@Adventure_Bum Stoertebeker was a north German pirate who was caught by the authorities in Hamburg where he was beheaded. The story is that he made a deal with them that for every pirate crew member of his that was lined up to be beheaded that he walked past without his head that they would be let go. The story is that he walked past 11 of his crew without a head like chickens do but he was tripped up by the executioner as he got past number 11. The authorities also never kept their word and beheaded all of his companions. So the story goes anyway it’s a bit of a fable or legend… his skull with a spear through it can be seen in the Hamburg museum. There is also a huge bronze statue of him in Hamburg.
@@Adventure_Bum the timing would be a fair bit off though I guess. This was in the 1400s.However, Klaus did frequent the North Sea where he took over many ships. He is known as the Robin Hood of the North Sea. Much of his warrior fighting skills were taught to him by the Frisian Germanic warriors who on many occasions gave the Roman’s a butt kicking in the German forests. The frisians had some crazy warriors such as Redbad a medieval Frisian freedom fighter and many more.
@@dataroberts8962 Solway Lass dates from 1902, so I think he missed her. Maybe his spirits visits her from time to time, Solway has a lot of ghost sitings.
Great stuff! You are really good at telling your story!
Thank you mate, appreciate the feedback. We are going hard trying to get Solway Lass off the slip soon!
Thank you! I learn more in this video than I did in a 2 day sailing class for keel boats. Keep up the great work.
My pleasure Cliff. Really appreciate the feedback. I try to make the videos I wanted to see on youtube but couldnt find.
I've owned both. For pure fun I'd take the cat. The 14" cat is much lighter. I found the Island too heavy and difficult on the beach even with a trolley for one person to move unless taken apart. Rubber parts in the AI like pedal drive flippers broke down in a hot climate and had to be replaced.I'd go for the Hobie Wave cat which can be taken apart and weighs much less than the AI.
Must be light. AI only weight 60kg.
Have owned a Adventure Island in Western Australia for 9 years never had any problems like you have, I have used this is very hot areas and cold ones, the Hobie cat is designed for sailing the adventure island isn’t,both have advantages and disadvantages it depends on what you use it for, mine is mainly used for fishing try fishing out of Hobie cat.
@@Adventure_BumThe Hobie Adventure islands in this video are older models after 2015 the new designed ones are a lot drier to ride in and have a lot better seat.
Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! That was a short video. Lol
Thank you mate. Its an ongiung series, so plenty of other videos to watch about the slipping
Hey, tighten your belt a little :)
😂
By the way ,my old wife is sometimes dirty in the bilge too. Oh no SORRY😅
Haha, go clean her plumbing up mate
She is not a bath tub.Don't insult the old lady she will be looking great when her bottom parts is painted. 😊.
Lol, shes a rusty old tub mate but I absolutely love her. So much character.
And your ex army too. I did 29 in British Army.
Thats a big stint brother. 13 for me, 4 as a digger and the rest as an officer. Mostly grunts but I did some time in arty and transport.
Thanks for this. Some good info about getting into Paramotoring
Ahhh, you found it. Good work mate 👍
Great video searies. Thanks
My pleasure mate. Thank you for watching
Ok this answers my question on a previous paragliding video of yours. Im going to get into paramotoring after this winters work up in the snowy mountains where i live. Any recommendations to do a full course to qualify?
I would recommend paragliding first unless you are familiar with wind sports and flying. You can then just get a PPG endorsement. th-cam.com/play/PLB7p7OHuOnoVZUGuLmlyv_z4l6QbeghPD.html&si=hifSh0wGIkDg52e- check this out to see my instructors.
@@Adventure_Bum thank you. I've got my AFF and did a kite surf course once upon a time
@@EveryWhichWayButLost good kite surfers make good PPG pilots mate
If you could afford it would you switch to paramotoring to be able to ride more??
I fly paramotors too. Check out my playlists. I find paragliding more enjoyable but the paramotor is more convenient. It is high maintenance and pretty expensive.
Interesting to see inside the boat😮
Yeah, its a maze of systems inside 1❤️❤️❤️
some updated info would be good . did you work out the best way to wear them and how are they holding up this many years later?
Still using them bro. Still seep a bit around the feet but otherwise greay.
@@Adventure_Bum lol
Thanks mate. Thought it was just me out there screwing up last in lasers. 😂. Great fun though
Best explanation I've seen and the visuals are so helpful!! Thank you :)
Thank you for the kind feedback. Really glad you found it useful! 🙂
Good stuff. Greetings from the yt algorithm :P
Lol. Cheers mate 🍺
nice
Cheers bro 🍺
Good job boys👍
Thank you so much Aki 😍
Great comparison review 👍👍👍
Thanks mate 👍🍺
Hi Alex. Loving your videos, especially on learning paragliding which I will be doing in a couple of weeks in Bright. I’m a South Aussie
Nice, might catch you on the hill sometime. Bit challenging to fly in SA as a PG2 because there arent a lot of pilots. Try and make friends with a few local PG4s
@@Adventure_Bum Oh really! It can be done, can’t it?
@@MrTlovinglife yes, I did it.
@@Adventure_Bum Thanks. Good to know. I have some contacts now.
Show me someone whose never dropped a bike and I'll show you someone who doesn't really ride.
Top comment and absolutely true.
Looks like an amazing site and flight, how often is XC possible from there?
Cheers bro 🍺 Only flown it once, turned up and got away. Never been there again.
Well done Alex, very watchable video. I think the riding will get easier if you can keep the load to a minimum and keep doing it. The more you do it the better you'll get.
Cheers John, really appreciate the comment. Discovered Team Moto put my back wheel on crooked so I rekon that didnt help. Some good roads on the sumny coast to practice on
Great video! This is how I feel on my KLR, though I don't get as much wet on my rides. A lot more rocks though, I mean a lot. Sometimes the entire forest road is just rocks 5-40cm big. That would be a nightmare to crash out on. Here's to the learning curve! More experience = more confidence = more fun. Cheers!
Cheers bro, went over plenty of rocks but didnt catch it on camera. How does your KLR handle sand?
Just think about all the things you learned by dropping the bike just once.😂
🤣😂
