    I'm kind of odd, but I grew up with some different mixes that I thoroughly enjoyed. I like - Coke & Jefferson's Blend (but also absolutely LOVED it with Ginger Ale) Woodford & Ginger Ale with a splash of Cranberry Juice WT 101 & Ginger Ale or make it as a nice Kentucky Mule Good video, nice stuff guys.

    Back when Buffalo trace was a shelf product. I used to do Buffalo trace and cokes all the time. I now use Wild Turkey 101. Bourbon & Cokes have its place for me if you want to drink something cold or something to drink when doing other things. I like to drink good bourbon neat and take it slow, enjoying the nose and the sip. I enjoy Canadian whiskeys mixed with 7up. I have never tried ginger ale with anything. The baby Saz with 7up looks interesting. I will give it a try.

    Very few labels can even get the basics of caramel, vanilla and oak right in a bourbon. Yet they are charging $100 or more for non-age stated, blended and sourced juice. Sometimes you don't even know where the juice was produced but you are paying a price tag like it was coming from a legacy distillery. Sazerac's obsession with limited release products that they know only the richest will be able to afford, while not even being able to get enough of their product out to keep up with demand. They add ridiculous labels like Weller Single Barrel, CYPB and now Millennium, yet they cannot keep Weller special reserve on the damn shelf?! Benchmark, their well/bottom shelf product line, they can't even keep distribution up? Even regular flagship Buffalo Trace can't be kept stocked. I would absolutely love to see higher age statements on bourbon across the board for a couple of reasons. One is that other types of liquor are major values for their age statements. Scotch, Irish whiskey, Cognac and brandy regularly carry big age statements for not a whole lot of cost. Bourbon needs to tap into this value prospect better. Two is that distillers will be able to figure out the sweet spot for aging of their distillate. I mean really dialing in flavor profiles and where to stop before the oak starts to take over too much. Three, long term business outlook. Not just price gouging consumers for the current fiscal quarter. A number of things will come into play in the coming decades. Fresh white oak supply for one. It just seems a little wasteful to me that it always has to be virgin white oak casks. I know many of the barrels will be used for regular whiskey on their second or third fill. But we can't use American ingenuity and create a class of bourbon where previously used barrels come into play? Will it change the flavor profile, yes of course. Will it be more environmentally and financially responsible, yes. People are always resistant to change, however in time if a severe shortage of white oak occurs bourbon will have to change accordingly. I fear bourbon has become an investment and speculation vehicle. It shouldn't be, but it is. Too much big money involved in the secondary market now. Secondary prices will fall and normalize but there are some labels that will remain difficult to find. Any annual limited release is going to maintain a collector market. Pappy Van Winkle? They are ratcheting up their MSRP slowly but surely. I think the 23 Year is currently $450. It was roughly $150 pre-covid. So even if you are lucky enough to score one in a lottery or raffle you are still getting screwed over. The 10 Year Old Rip Van Winkle is $130 now, used to be like $60. Everybody went up in arms when Wild Turkey raised MSRP across the board. Well what can we expect? Distillers and distributors are seeing dollar signs that are not entering their revenue stream and they want to tap into it. The simplest way for them to do that is raise MSRP. Why not? They see people are paying double retail or more to get these bottles. They want a slice of that pie. So flippers and taters have absolutely ruined bourbon for everybody. They don't care about the juice itself, they care that other people want it and that they will pay out the nose for it. Now we all suffer. It's sad. Bourbon has lost its previous value aspect because people say or think a bottle is worthy of more than its MSRP. No, it's worthy of its MSRP and nothing more or less. The truth is the juice for the most part isn't even that good anymore but the prices keep rising. As I said at the top, these places can't even get caramel, vanilla and oak right but they are charging premium prices? Age is going down and flavor is disappearing but the price tag is only going up. This will end badly for the industry.

    This is exactly why I just drink the tried and true brands now. Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, Old Forester and Jack Daniels products, etc. These days if I'm paying more than $100 for something it better be high age and high proof. My favorite product line of all time is Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, just can't beat the value.

    Ok I’ll ask. How long do you recommend allowing a bottle to be open before consuming? I have a bottle that has been open 2 1/2 years. I have put cling wrap around top to try to keep air out. Opinion please.

    • @bourbonbanterevans5745
      @bourbonbanterevans5745 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically like to open and let a bottle breath for a bit, before consuming, but usually only a few minutes. I typically like to try and consume a bottle within a year of opening, but that is just my opinion. Give yours a try and see if it’s still good, you will be able to tell.

    So Eagle Rare and EHT are from the same mashbill, Buffalo Trace #1, I interpret that to mean the same white dog is being put in barrels. Is the only difference between ER and EHT how/where it is aged and how it is proofed down?
