How much does this service cost with parts?
These were all done under warranty, check with extended coverage - HV Cells are pretty spendy out of warranty.
That video gave me vertigo, utterly useless with no narration.
If u change the battery does it neee to be registered
Yes there’s a full registration for each cell and position, it’s much more in depth than the 12v battery registration.
Is there a special charging procedure after installing the ?
Yup, when replacing cells you’ll balance them to the current cell voltages and when completed you’ll use a tester to ensure the battery is sealed and everything is connected properly. All bmw special tools.

I appreciate that! This was a recall so we had to ship the cells back to bmw, shipping was quite extensive as well bmw had us put them in barrels filled with kitty litter I believe lol.
Great video, do you know if the 2 bmw cell variants are the same physical dimensions? The 26 ah of the older cells and the newer g series cells. Also cheers for the interesting video!
Appreciate that! I’m not positive, I would say they’re similar but likely not the same. Will follow up if I can find the info in the bmw literature.
Did you find out ih you can put 10kwh in 2 BMW
They are the same, but in this case you have to replace all modules with the cell managing electronics as well. So the best way is to buy a complete battery pack and replace it. It would work for a G30 530e but not for F30 330e.

I can tell you now that you forgot safety steps when you went for coffee after removal of the cover . Take care when working with HV .
Hi, why do you flash the old cell before to flash the new cell ?
Want to make sure all the new cells are balanced charged together and to any old cells that aren’t being replaced. Also inputting the new battery serial numbers into the control unit for charging characteristics.
Having had this recall just done on the 2020 30e my wife drives, a narrated video of what’s involved with this repair would be of interest. This video, with the herky jerky editing, and peculiar music sadly falls short.
Carl, if I have a 2018 with the 9.1kwh battery pack, do you know whether it can be upgraded to the 12kwh pack in the future. The one from the MY2021 cars.
Which market are you in? In the US all of our x3 phevs I believe have the same battery packs installed currently. Not much literature is provided by bmw either, but assuming any of our hybrid car batteries upgrading wouldn’t be feasible money wise.
Was looking forward to watching a proper technical video, but it’s just awful! Inane music makes it worse..
Thanks for the feedback! This high voltage system requires specialized BMW hybrid training to safely work on. 360 volts can do a lot of damage, would not recommend this as a DIY.
