The Importance of Short-Roll Playmaking
มุมมอง 1458 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the most important skills a big man can have these days is the ability to make plays out of the short roll. When opposing teams but two on the ball, it leaves the screener open in a pocket of space near the free-throw line, and being able to determine where to go with the ball next is of paramount important.

      Do you honestly think that Kidd and his stuff will make adjustments to their offense? Or that Luka can't adapt? Luka has never played with anyone who shot 40% from 3 before. Klay is not just going to be standing in the corner and he shot 39% in a "down" year. The Mavs are going to be a problem in the West.

      actually THJ is the only non LuKai player that got plays run for him. but Klay as a screener would still use his ability to shoot from movement. also less running for Klay on offense might let him play harder on defense.

    What is comes down to is that there are now FIVE very good or elite scorers on the court with their starting five. Every single single one of them are good enough scorers that they need to be double teamed. They are all hard to guard 1 on 1. if someone leaves his man to double team any other one, then the guy left open will have a field day.

    I still don’t like that iso ball stuff we need to be moving the ball faster and getting the ball quicker to kp are defense can be better if we play more aggressive

    • @matthewvaughan8192
      @matthewvaughan8192 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t hold your breath on aggressive defence anymore. Refs too soft and capricious. You’ll just lose the game at the line, like we did countless times versus GSW. A more static approach is needed and Mezzula recognised that. Tatum's clear maturity will also help with that issue as well. Man didn't get squat called last year after being fouled into injuries for a second year in a row

    • @matthewvaughan8192
      @matthewvaughan8192 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MKHLX C's ball movement has been downright sexy for at least 3 years now. It's more the players & organisation as a whole than the head coach. Super under appreciated, but there's still shades of resorting to iso and dropping everything that gave us the lead to begin with when we go into game management mode. Definitely seeing improvements, but god I will be frustrated if we get to the finals again & completely regress back to iso/hero ball -- again.

    When Marcus and rob were on the floor their defenders could help for free, they were both a non threat on offense, now you have KP and Jrue playing those roles, major upgrade

    • @matthewvaughan8192
      @matthewvaughan8192 ปีที่แล้ว

      KP isn’t quite the rim protector or transition defender Time Lord was though. That’s the only downgrade. Jokic, Embiid & Giannis will just carve the paint open - but whether that’ll be a big thing over 7, I dunno, probably nowhere near as important as the 3.

    • @Ironfangzu
      @Ironfangzu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewvaughan8192 KP is a good rim protector, but you are right in saying he wasn't on Time Lord's level on defense. On the other hand, not only is he a MUCH better scorer than Rob, he is, or has been so far, available. Rob was someone that I wanted to see on the court, but I always felt that his time was limited, because at any time his usual injuries would pop up. That's what has happened this season, sadly.

    • @thejamboy3556
      @thejamboy3556 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewvaughan8192 he’s good enough rim protector, ranked just outside top ten in blocks last year, avg about 2 blocks per game, for his career different style than rob but just as effective and when you factor in rob barely playing 40 games per year at 13 mins a game it’s negligible, rob was a much better perimeter defender but was a zero on offense besides lob threat, plus rob didn’t defend those guys like Embid horford did

      Why did it suck? It was about getting up and being on top of the world which were the two things Favre is/ should be remembered for. Getting up from all the hits from both defensive players and from life must have been extremely difficult and he could have "cut some corners or try to take the easy way out" but instead he fought back and was "on top of the world" everytime he threw a touchdown pass as evidenced by him leaping on his teammates and that boyish grin that never left his face.
