Another storm that passed over this week - this one not as lively as the previous hailstorm but with a number of nice bangs and flashes.

The former Great Western Railway works was known for many things, but one of them was it's steam powered hooter. This would be blown several times a day to signal the start and end of the workers' shifts and could be heard 20 miles away. Video of a nasty squall passing over Sainsbury's Bridgemead car park in Swindon. Gusts of 63 MPH were recorded around this time at RAF Lyneham weather station. Look close and you'll see the wind blowing the rain across the surface of the car park in waves. A car was hit by a tree less than a mile away earlier that afternoon.

A large thunderstorm which formed just south of Swindon on 30/05/2012 and moved North East towards the Oxford area where it reportedly dropped 14mm of rain in less than 20 minutes. A thunderstorm passed close to Swindon around 02:30am early on 01/05/2012. There were only a couple of good flashes in the end so I've edited the blank spaces out. Suspicious looking cloud formation that passed over Swindon late on 04/11/2011. It's probably just a scud cloud but it was doing a fine impression of a funnel cloud at one point! It had been raining heavily at times all afterrnoon with thunder forecast for some places.

Well done all involved. If possible next time it sounds it should be hooked up to 2 traction engines for a really good loud blast! Regarding the original Victorian hooter the device is silent in situ. The hooter was hooked up to the works boiler which no longer exists and it would be too expensive and probably dangerous to supply the correct steam pressure required for it to blow again.

Nice! We had this in west Norfolk at around 4:30, just suddenly came! I just suddenly heard loud rumbling down the chimney and looked outside to see trees warping and bending in the wind and driving rain! Must have gusted to at least 50mph. We had lightning here, too.

Certainly eye catching! I would have filmed it too. Been some interesting weather recently.
