Jack Dempsey and Green Terror tank mates
Your tank looks like ass bro. I have a mature tank with all types or organisms and sponges but you really don’t need to have your tank looking like straight ass
Beautiful tank, but you don’t really have any aggressive fish. Sevs and geos generally do well with anything too big to eat
Yeah you’re right, they are mainly aggressive with each other. I’ve seen some aggression but not much. I truly believe if I put a tiny Oscar in my tank and it grew up with all the peaceful fish, he would leave them alone. Thanks for the comment :)
@ Ya, Oscar’s aren’t really aggressive either. I think they’d do fine with geos and sevs assuming it’s the right size tank. I had a 75 with a group of G. Sveni and a shoal of hujeta, I kinda miss it now lol
Oh wow that sounds like a nice setup! Oscar can be aggressive depending on the individual. I’ve had Green Terrors with the Denison barbs and some bigger tetras and the green terror left them alone. It can be done just depends on the fish for sure
@@fishwateraquatics Oh ok, yes as far as those type of fish they can be a little too aggressive. Sorry, I guess I was comparing them to other stuff I’ve kept lol
@@fishwateraquatics I dig those roseline BTW, one of the few I’ve never had a chance to keep
I'm still working on outcompeting the cyano in my saltwater tank. Phytoplankton helped me a lot with the dinos too! Can't wait to see how your tank grows! Stinks when crashes happen; the less fun side of the hobby. Good luck! 😁
Thank you! Good luck to you as well, it’s definitely a marathon when it comes to Dinos and cyano lol. It’s doing better, looking at getting some new coral from my LFS soon once they get a new shipment:)
Based on your recommendation and scoping out multiple others I finally decided on ordering one. Thanks for this video, hoss!
@@AustinOfAmes absolutely man I’m glad to hear it! You’ll enjoy it for sure!
Thank You!!!!❤❤❤
Nice video! I’m new to the hobby and I wanted to ask what type of filter do you need, there was mention of a few. If you can provide some advice or resources that would be great. Thank you.
There are many filters you can go with, personally I like the Aqua clear filters. I’ve been running mine for many years without issues, theyre not loud, easy to take apart and clean, and have lots of space on the inside to customize whatever you want to put in it as far as filter media, bio balls, carbon ect. I hope this helps! Welcome to the hobby :)
Can the bleeding heart , white skirt and black skirt cross breed ?
That’s a great question, honestly I have no idea. I’ve never bread them so I am not the best person to ask on this. I’m sure on some forum someone has the answer!
PFS is great, I have some in my indoor pond
That’s awesome! Indoor pond sounds so cool
@ I would prefer a large tank, but for the size the pond was $200 vs around $1500 for a tank lol
My reef is similar, I picked up an aqueon 14g rimless cube on sale for 37, I also run an AC50 and the Fluval sea wavemaker and a fluval heater. The only part I spent a little more on was the light which is a kessil a80 blue that I got with the gooseneck for 165
This is an excellent video. Good info, a tank that is more like what most people have instead of the high price rimless tanks like red sea’s etc…with expensive equipment and stock. We need more relatable vids like this Great job- subbed
Thank you I appreciate it!
This isn't an excellent video. He has too high of nutrients if spiroid worms are populating like that. Stop believing everything on the internet. This tank is junk.
I lost my 25 gallon after 4 years due to power failure during Hurricane Helene. I also lost mostly everything in my 10 gallon except one zebra hermit, some GSP, and a Kenya Tree. In regards to the dinoflaggelates, I struggled with them for several months until I finally performed two blackout periods.
Aw man it’s always tough losing a tank especially to a natural disaster:( I’m glad you were finally able to beat Dino’s that is always hard!
I have a 10 gallon tank do u recommend 1 or 2
Just 1 would be good for sure! I have the flow on the lowest setting in my 20 gallon and it’s plenty strong:)
@@JoseMartinez-rs3ns 1 w/return flow for anything under 30 I have in my 32g 2. A larger and a smaller one. Both set to 40%. Together with the return flow flow with create the turbulence or gyre needed
Beautiful, beautiful tank
Thank you!
You will get more water movement with clean smooth glass
Yes you’re right! Also I had the power head turned all the way down so it had plenty of power:)
I’ve had a pair of each of these 1600g and 2600g HYGGERS for over a year and they are great! In my reef tank. Easy to set up also. I put a set in the tank and always keep a fresh clean one. Swap them out once a month. They are simple to take apart and clean also. Also SUPER quiet. It sits under my feed cup. The fish love to chase the food. I LOVE the auto feed button also because o don’t need to remember to turn it back on.
That’s great I’m glad you love yours too! The auto feed button is super convenient for sure:)
@@fishwateraquatics these were referred to me by someone to use and have been the best wavemakers
Beautiful fish I can’t wait to get some Severums,a question where’d you find that tree decoration??
Yes they definitely are awesome and you will love them! I got the tree from petco years ago online. Not sure if they still have it or if it is discontinued
I'm upgrading my saltwater reef aquarium and I wish I could use this stuff! Such a shame this cheap option isn't an option for a reef; it looks so nice!😩 Another great cheap alternative for freshwater is apparently blasting sand - you can get the stuff made of quartz or garnite and it looks very pretty! Also: non-clumping plain clay cat litter is a great freshwater plant substrate that works as well or better than expensive plant substrates!❤
Yeah it would be nice if you could use it in a salt water tank. Thank you for sharing the info! I’ll have to keep that in mind if I ever setup a planted tank :)
These guys remind me of saltwater angelfish and I love it❤
They do! They’re pretty sweet
That tree is awesome
32 LED biocube coming up on 8 months but been having issues with LPS corals and just started getting more Red Cyano back again. Its been a process, been through diatoms, then red Cyano and some mild GHA. Then had a Phytoplankton spike while the red cyano was taking over, tried a blackout that basically killed the cyano but had to run a UV for a bit to rid the phyto. Then a stubborn Bryopsis outbreak. But my rear glass is about 65% COVERED in purple algae and noticed the sea sponges about 4 months ago. Had tons of those spiral white worms or whatever after about 2 months. Tropic Marin Pro Reef and no dosing currently but prob why im having LPS issues. Starting nitrate and phos dosing in the next few days as 4 fish is not keeping nutrients high enough. Id say I gotta be close to done with the uglies and seems to be maturing....or something
Hygger sent me here, new sub :)
Awesome I love to hear it! Thanks for the support I appreciate it :)
Broke first try
I just found your channel. Thanks for posting this power head unboxing.
Hey Jake I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the comment :)
Everyone acts like saltwater is impossible. I have a hob w protein skimmer in a 55g and doing just fine. I lost a bunch of fish already between moving and such. It definitely isn't super easy but managble I feel like.
Moving definitely makes things difficult! Best of luck to you in the future, it is manageable for sure, just takes time
@@fishwateraquatics thank you! one problem I have is a very territorial yellow belly blue hippo tang
@@fishwateraquatics he shredded his twin and so far two angelfish
Hello I am having pair of yellow severum but male is not fertili so please guide me for this
Unfortunately I am not well experienced in breeding severums so I won’t be able to help you out, I’m sorry :(
Thank you for an interesting video. I live in the UK and have a similar size tank as yours that I set up on the 1st May this year. My first reef tank. What you had to say was very informative and answered lot of my questions about how my tank was maturing. I have subscribed to your channel becuase I am interested in seeing how you progress with reef keeping and hopefully pick up ideas and get answers to some of my many questions about the hobby. Thanks again. Greg
Hey Greg thanks for stopping by man! Glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy my future vids as well! Welcome to the great hobby of reef keeping!
@@fishwateraquatics Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to learning more form your videos. They are nicely presented.
This being one of my favorite channels, question for you. How do you top off this aquarium and how often?
Thank you I greatly appreciate it! I don’t get too much evaporation with my glass lid, I’d say I top it off once every 2 weeks. I could do a little once a week but I just tend to wait that extra week until I can see that water line drop.
I bought a severum and they told me it is lemon severum can that be right?
Yeah there are Lemon Severums, they are like a bright yellow color. They’re pretty sweet especially when they grow up!
@@fishwateraquatics thank you
get yourself some kind of uv and maybe look into ozone, ozone WILL kill dinos and prevent some algaes but its kind of an advanced thing to do and you need a orp probe. maybe increase feeding to increase nutrients?
I tried UV but I’ll look into Ozone. As of now I raised my nutrients and the Dino’s are gone for the most part. The hard part is keeping them away. I’m trying to keep my nitrates to 5-10ppm if I can from now on. Thanks for the comment:)
How many gallons
20 gallon
raise your tank temp if you have dinos to 82F, it will clear it up. read the reefbuilders article
That’s a great tip, thanks for the suggestion!
No
Good luck
Thank you!
Dr tims waste away works for me, which keeps nitrates and phosphates in check and doesn't zero it out
I’ve heard about Dr. Tim’s before maybe I’ll have to try it out, thanks for letting me know!
@fishwateraquatics Yeah, I used to use carbon like chemi pure blue, but it always zeroed out my phosphates, and that's when I would always get red slime
UV bro.. I struggled with Dino's for months.. ended up finding a UV bulb on eBay for 15 bucks that has suction cup literally like dropping an extra heater in.. 3 days bro tank was freakin transformed.. 1 week completely gone.. for 15 bucks it was worth a try 🤷 the light stays on now 247.. lives in the pump Chamber of my all in one
Hey thanks for the comment bro! I tried UV and no luck unfortunately:( the only thing that has seemed to work is raising my nitrates up and keeping the light on a lower setting. I’m glad the UV was able to clear your tank up! I’ll be on top of keeping my nitrates higher and we should be good to go👍
i think you just need to change the filter more often bro. i used the hang on filter when i started reefing. if you dont remove the waste like you would if you had a sump with a filter sock the issue will never go away. ever since i used a sump i never had dyno issues. only in the begining with a new tank i woud get it and chemiclean once and never had to do it again ever since. you shoudnt have to grow algae to fight something else if it makes your tank that bad looking, and it just comes back after a few months. something aint right. of course i dont know if you dose anything but im assume you know to do the alk and keeping the ph in check for the corals. but theres so many factors that can cause it to not look good. and i dont see a skimmer so im hoping you do water change every week. to fix your issues currently these are the step i would start doing. assuming you dose and check alk above 8.3, water change every week 20%. 70% if you dont dose alk yet. change the filter pad every week. hang on skimmer will help you do less water change. 2 weeks instead at 20%. phyto once a week at night most corals open up to feed during night time, ducans you can feed them during the day. and clean your glass twice a week. its better to have them on rocks then the glass. algae should be an indicator of having too much nutrients in your tank, or the light is on too long. you shouldnt grow it unless you have something to eat it also. if algae grows back in a week like hair. you have way too much nutrients in the tank. and you have to clean the sand bed because the poop from your fish doesnt float to the filter it sinks and just sits at the bottom. way too much waste for a small hang on filter to clean. the filter can only catch the floating micro waste. the water itself isnt cleaned. its like taking a dump in a bucket, you can take the poop out and filter the micro poop dust. but would you still use it to drink? thats exactly how the fish is living in that tank. a skimmer will remove the rest so that you can drink in. well i would also let that water run through a uv light before drinking it. theres no way you havent learned these things after 4 years. but i can help just let me know. Happy Reefing!
Also 50 drops of phyto a day is wayy too much for that tank size. i have a 200 gallon tank loaded with corals and i still only put 5 drops twice a week( but i feed my corals directly once a week). And i put it to feed my copepods more than my corals. the goal should be as less food as possible if youre only running a small filter device and no skimmer. the green algae lets you know the cyano cant take over. that cyano in the center of the tank could possibly mean too much light and not enough flow and too much waste and no skimmer to really clean clean the water itself. way too many factors in play. but do the main things i said first to see if it helps. well it should because i had that size tank before and running the same equipments. you gotta be extra cleaning that hoe the more you put in it.
kalk is key to your corals health. it keeps the alk and calcium in check for the skeletal structure of the corals to grow and feed it. if those two things arent at the right levels they will also sllowly die away.
Hey thanks for your comment I greatly appreciate it. I do a water change every 2 weeks. Honestly for 3 years my tank has been fine, last year I started adding a bunch of coral and then I got Dino’s for the first time. It turns out the tank that I got coral from also had Dino’s so it must’ve came from that tank. You gave me some great info and I’ll try some of the things you suggested!
@fishwateraquatics i dont think it matters where the dynos come from. It appears in the tank naturally. Once your tank has aged, it will produce the algae that will consume it before it can grow back. But at the same time. Your water quality is key. The phosphate should be under 0.03 and dose kalk to stay above 8.3 on the alk. If those three things aren't in check, you will always run into problems. And use RO water to make your salt. If you use tap water it will add bad things to your tank and the corals don't like it either.
I’m sorry bro
It’s ok, it happens. we’ll be back and better than ever!
Get coral banded shrimp they will eat all bristle worms and arrow crabs too
That’s a good suggestion thanks! Since I have a yellow watchman goby maybe they could pair up too, I’ll look more into that:)
Gobies pair with pistol shrimp. If you want a wrasse a six line would be better for a smaller tank and will eat bristle worms or a neon dottyback
Thanks friend!
I’m sold on this product! Can’t wait until I am able to set up my 55 gallon
Love to hear it! You will enjoy it for sure:)
Awesome vid. What's your maintenance schedule like at the start?
Thank you! At the beginning a did 1 water change every week / every other week and tested my water to make sure parameters were in line
really small filter, will get clogged quickly.
I see what you’re saying for sure, it’s pretty easy to clean out. So far it’s been good for me!
good thing I saw this... I was aboutt o buy a power vac for 50 bucks
I’m glad you were able to see it too!
I always wondered how these things would work. Pretty neat, completely unnecessary, but still neat.
Yeah it’s cool! I can see it being useful if you needed to clean your sand in a reef tank but didn’t want to perform a water change. I used it for that and it was pretty nice!
Nice 👍🏽
Thank you!
Too much misinformation here. More study is required.
Hey thanks for the comment, I think this video gives you a good general idea of what to look for. What part are you thinking is misinformation? Just curious if I can try and clear anything up for you or maybe I didn’t explain something correctly.
@@fishwateraquatics pretty much all of what you noted as indicating a mature tank does not. I suggest you do more research or get a bit more experience. Sorry to be blunt.
Just to let you know sea sponges hitchhike on live rock corals with rock anything like that so they probably came from live rock you got or a coral was rock. They just don’t by themselves. Your tank is just beautiful.
@@jril3982he’s right though. Sponges and coraline are indicative of a maturing and stable tank
Awwwww my 2 look just like this...same size and everything except my green severum lost one eye 😢
They grow up fast! Even without an eye I’m sure your green severum is amazing:) thanks for watching
Beautiful tank! what size is it?
Thank you! It’s a 75 gallon, I plan to move the fish to a 150 or 180 gallon down the line once everything grows!
that sounds great, I'm setting up a 125 gal as well which should arrive on Friday, I'm going with severums, Electric Blue Acara and Geophagus Tapajos.
@@vigilante9259 that’s awesome!!! They will definitely enjoy that 125, that’s perfect:)
I've got 2 green sevrums they lay eggs all the time I love them.. But they annoy me as they always hide my tank looks empty any tips on making them more comfortable being in the open? And how to keep the babies alive please
As soon as i enter the room they swim to their hiding spot I never see them 😢
To keep them from hiding you could try adding more fish “dither fish” to make them feel more comfortable. I like Denison barbs personally. As far as keeping babies alive I’ve never had any luck. Maybe once the eggs hatch you could try to remove the severums so they won’t mess with the babies. Best of luck!
@@fishwateraquatics I tried it before with some rainbow fish and the female went pale and every time I looked at the tank the male was pecking the side of the female 😭
So I use frozen scallops. Let them soak in selcon. Little pieces cut to about the size of a pencil eraser. They love it!
That sounds like it would be great! I’ll have to try that out thanks!
Very thorough review. You have a great video voice 😊
Hey!!! Thank you I appreciate it! Means a lot coming from you I appreciate it man:)
