good music from a game that I love, maybe we can make some cover/arranger type music together...??!!
WoW ❤🎉 great thanks for sharing
Amazing work. A question: how are you handling the enemies data? Did you define their amount and kind for each room in a matrix? Thanks!
Yes I can place max 6 enemies (16x16) in one room. An enemy can also be eg 16x32 which means there is space left for 4 enemies. An enemy has a number, reference to a spriteset, strength, ai type, x and y, etc. This is defined per room
Amazing
Awesome work thanks for sharing ❤🎉
Wonderful ❤️
❤
So Beautiful. I hope you can complete your work with the right atmosfere music, background, gameplay, enemies and so on..i m sure it will be a jewel
Great work Frederik. Nice music too!
So Beautiful and outstanding project! I wish you to complete The opera
Great progress indeed! The only thing that bothers me a bit is the dropping heart from a candle... It looks like it is moving a lot less smoothly than everything else.
Beautiful . congratulation
This is going to be a milestone in Castlevania saga ;-) Greetings!
Nice work; you're making tons of progress !!!
The music is amazing !
great work dude!
So Great 😍
Amazing project! ❤
Awesome, thanks for sharing 🎉
nice. do you plan to add horizontal scrolling which is more difficullt on v9938 chip?
no sorry, no horizontal scrolling in this game because of the time it consumes and complexity
Congratulations!
Seems the music will be fine. If I can just make an observation. It's about how the character jumps and falls. It seems to me that he stays static in the air too much time before falling. It feels different from CastleVania games (NES or Gameboy) or Vampire Killer MSX2.
I think I fixed it
@@fboelens Great !
So nice. I am so fan of CastleVania. I will follow.
what about horizontal scrolling?
Looking and sounding great! If I had to make just one small remark, it would be about the heart falling down animation. 😉 I'm looking forward what will become of this. 😁
do you mean the small heart or the large hearts?
@@fboelens Both, actually. They seem choppy, so they look a bit out of place considering everything else is so smooth.
Great! What soundchip is used?
It's OPLL+PSG
Looks very promising! Please consider improving the jump arch. It is like the player is floating in mid-air for a while in the middle of the jump.
@@PabloVasquesBravoVillalba correct :) I thought of doing SCC, but i really also like Msx music
@@ManuelBilderbeek I'll try to improve it ;)
@@fboelens Both are excellent. I feel the OPLL is kind of in a renaissance right now, with many people discovering how amazing it can sound. SCC to me is a different challenge, trying to make it sound at least as good as Konami. 😅
You are doing great! ❤
Looks and sounds great!
Show!
Great work

Great! 👏
Msx music....or stereo monblaster ❤😂😅
Awesome! As for the music, I love SCC!
Amazing job! Is this expected to be a multiload game? How many bytes a single room tilemap is taking (I guess around 256bytes) ? How many rooms are you planning to put and how much memory are you planning to reserve for the level data? Just curious as I'm about to start a similar project on another obscure 8bit machine :) Thank you!
thanks! Yes, It's going to be a multiload game. This idea just an idea yet, but one world (part of the castle) can take up to 16KB of data. I think +/- 50% of it is going to be sprite and musicdata. That means I have at least 8K left for mapdata. One screen is 16*12 bytes + objectdata, so yeah, about 256 bytes / screen. That leads to 32 rooms/screens per world.
Good busy! It’s coming together nicely. Also ltns ;)
tnx!! and indeed ltns! I wanted to come to Nijmegen, (saws you were there), but I was not able unfortunately
Ah, this looks even nicer than expected. Not only it's sharper looking due to its increased resolution, the smoothness of the movement is clearly visible with 50fps. Nice seeing the hearts coming out of the candles and the candles being put out. As for the music, I love both sound chips, I can't pick one. I think people are rediscovering the FM, though, and have been doing really impressive things with it lately. 😊
Tnx!! I really like FM too. At the moment I tend to use SCC, because it's a konami-like game and the atmosphere that you can achieve with SCC modulations
@@fboelens SCC is lovely 😊
Nice!
Very interesting! Also, the art style looks really cool. Just a small suggestion, though: if you're using OpenMSX, could you record the next videos using -triplesize? This way the video quality would be higher.
tnx! actually the graphics are mainly from my previous game (will be released soon, probably MSXDev24).. Will create new tiles for this game, but I need something to use for now ;) My next WIP is in triplesize. See th-cam.com/video/28U3mxMeut8/w-d-xo.html
Very nice! Keep up the good work!
Very cool pixel art!
it looks amazing ! Does it scroll horizontally too?
Tnx. I don't have plans for that yet. It's very hard to get smooth hor. scrolling working on MSX2, and still have enough CPU time, sprites, etc. left for other things
Looks pretty smooth. I think you should carefully look how to scroll compared to where the player character is. Take a good look at how NES/Famicom games do it.
I think I understand what you mean. Probably in the next update
