That's Steve. Unfortunately, he passed away a couple years ago. He was an incredible versatile banjo player. I'm a big fan of his old-time three finger playing. His picking on Happy Hollow with Joe Decosimo is superb.

I think this tune is like the A part and C part of Smith’s rag and the B part of Red Apple Rag. But Otis Burris also called this tune (without the C part) Honeysuckle Rag.

The Buffalo nickel was made in 1913 with an Indian's head on front, and a Buffalo on the back where "Five Cents" is printed. This tune is most often called either New Five Cents or Buffalo Nickel. A new tune to commemorate the new coin....

Nah. If you look at the other videos from this jam you'll see that John (Herrmann --- two rs, two ns) was in fine spirits--and he joined the session on guitar for several hours (after the filming stopped).
Was she once in a group called Sassafras?
No. The only connection she (or I) have to anything called "Sassafras" was an annual music party hosted by a friend on her beautiful farm on the Sassafras River in Maryland. We might have included the word Sassafras on the labels from some photos taken at that party---but that's about it.
