Had one red I totally wreck mine mom dad got me doing a wheely ,cracked the frame a heap of times , only one on the street ,

I used to have a metallic blue Chopper back in the late 70's.

I rebuilt one, MK3, back the late 90's, Melbourne, it was red, Asked my friend to store it for me as I had about 12 other choppers, and Malvernstar's. Anyway, never saw him again. back then it fetched $4-700+, depending on how clean it was. now days up to $1500+ Some second best friend he turned out to be.

Total crap. the lot of 'em.

I had a yellow mk2 exactly the same back then, but i dropped it and bent the pedal in and it hit the guard. God i wished i had kept it.

OCTOBER 2024 A childhood friend of mine, had a Raleigh Chopper in yellow, and when he went out for the day, he and his parents allowed myself to borrow it for that day. That wouldn't happen today though, sadly today they are going for silly money. 🇬🇧Ⓜ️🇬🇧🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Great video, very nostalgic. Wow brings back memories of my youth in Shaw near Oldham. I remember riding way out into town once beyond my allowed limit on a tomahawk. That annoying clicking/ knocking sound from the front sprocket, remember it well. Happy days.

Oh wow, the nostalgia is off the charts. At 51 years young now I remember these bike's very well. I too have learnt to ride thanks to these iconic steeds

I bust a sky way tough 2 wheel on first jump from the start ramp earning my place in local folklore status. 👊👊

mk1 i had and was the best model. it had a longer seat for 2 up riding and had adjustable handelbars.

That dog on back of that Chopper 🤣, on a serious note it did say on the seat no passengers lol

I wanted one in the early 70s but got a racing bike for xmas instead it was much faster than my mates choppers 😁

I had a black Raleigh Boxer and my brother had a gold Raleigh Bullet, early 80’s

I had a blue Raleigh burner, got it for my 10th birthday, a day I'll never forget! Most kids round the way got their BMX the following Christmas, by then, mine was close to a year old! 13:10

Had a red one in 78 a grifter then a burner. My mate here in NZ has 3 in his garage 2 red 1 green in mint condition too.

I had the tomahawk which was smaller similar frame and style no gears

I still got my BMX (Gold colour) Burner in the Attic :D I doubt i'd sell it for only £200/300ish though even though it was only used about 4 times to. One of the brakes was replaced back in the 80's to but they put a different type on it so i guess that might devalue it a bit. COOL Video 😎 👍

Anyone heard of a Raleigh Speedway. I was the only owner of a silver one I know of. It was smaller than a boxer.i had it from about 1980 until my first BMX.

The Strika, Boxer, Grifter and Bomber were when Raleigh ruled the UK bike scene.

I had a red chopper and still have the scar from it😮

Had a Raleigh boxer in 1976 when I was five got passed down to my brother and sister that little bike was indestructible we had it ten years then passed it to our younger cousin he had a few years out of it as well up and down curbs jumps off ramps just kept going.😂😂

I had a Raleigh Commando, I wanted to have something a bit different to the rest of the lads. It was the black one with orange logo...I loved that bike and cleaned it everyday!

A mechanic garage owner in my area has a collection of these bikes and are all hung on his garage walls. Must be worth a fortune.

My mates had Grifters so when we went Brook jumping my front wheel dipped and I went over the handlebars 😔

I always wanted a Bomber!

My mate got the blue and yellow Raleigh Burner for his birthday... Christmas was coming up and I wanted the gold and black one... Christmas day came and I was ready to roll and show off my new bike.... My face absolutely dropped when they rolled out a yellow and red Iron horse.... I was devastated 😂

I learned to ride on my mates Raleigh Chopper. Lot of falls and skinned knees. It's a terrible bike to learn on. And no good for any kind of distance. But it was the bike to have back in the day. Got my first bike 1977 (aged 13). It was a Raleigh Nimrod, a racer. That's when I realised how badly a Chopper handled.

My mates had choppers, cool with side mirrors and gearshift, proper jealous but as a riding experience a complete mare. I had a Grifter, very heavy but turned etc well, i remember as a Young man 6 of of us riding down our Road on my Grifter. Going uphill a struggle, down hill a blast😀 overtaking Racing bikes due to its Weight ( not pedalling😅😎) I remember buying bmx Magazine during 80`s, Maybe thats why raleigh failed, they did not keep up with the times. I thought that Old Raleighs would cost more, newer foreign models still cost less☹️

Im now 45 i had a chopper, a grifter, a burner,and a mongoose bmx. Ifi knew then what i knew now...... I wouldnt of trashed them all 😊

I don't think it's any coincidence that the disappearance of kids riding bikes for fun happened around the same time we saw the beginnings of an obesity crisis. In my day you rode a bike every day, or played football in the street and lusted after the new Grifter, Chopper or Burner. Now kids lust after the latest iphone and hunt imaginary Pokemon from the family couch...

I had a Burner with yellow Mag wheels. I fell off once and ended up with a HUGE graze on my elbow that scabbed over and seemed to constantly weep and hang around for MONTHS.

My yellow Chopper cost £34 new in the early 70s. Wish I still had it.

No mention of the Commando.

All I remember was the sound of Grifters with the mud flap tucked up against the tyre pretending to have an engine! 😂😂😂😂
