A morning sailing with Monty and Janis off Crete
It is just over a year since the home-built Stornoway 12 Lug sailed boat was launched. Nikos Kaklamanakis returned with his GoPro camera to film Janis Tsapis and Monty Priede sailing and Pantanassa near Heraklion on the North Coast of Crete.

An impressive job. A lot of work. Well done.
@@peterwilliams4903 Thank you, it was really enjoyable
Cool
I like that boat😊
Nice
Could you make more videos
@@georgekantidakis2341 When I build another boat, I shall make more videos.
Very nice!!
Excelente trabajo!!! Muy cómodo y bonito bote. Me gustaría construir uno. Como se logra la forma y medidas de las tablas de los costados!!!?
Thank you. The shapes of the planks to make the hull come directly from the drawing (ST12/93/01) and the table of measurements. For the side tanks (seats) the important step is to fit the side tank rails accurately (Video 1, sequence at 5 min 55s) between the transom and the centre bulkhead. The measurements for the small bulkheads, tank sides and tank tops were then made from the top corner of the rail to the inner skin of the boat. Then the parts fitted perfectly, I did not use the drawing for this stage of construction. Good luck with your build! Monty
Boa tarde como conseguir o projeto desse veleiro
Hi! You can buy plans from www.selway-fisher.com/Stornoways.htm OR duckworks.com/stornoway-12-plans/ There are three different rigs. When I started I wanted to build the Cutter rig with 3 sails, but then changed to the lug sail with 1 sail, which is much simpler. I do not regret the choice. I modified details of the deck to accomodate the mast step.
Cool boat! :)
I admire the craftsmanship and the final result.
Thank you, gald you like it
That boat looks great. I'll dive into your build videos next to find out how you made it!
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope you find the build videos informative.
Wooden boats have soul. Nice.
Thank you. I originally planned to paint the hull white but then decided to just leave it with the natural varnished finish.
Bonjour comment allez vous ? Avez vous des plans pour le réaliser ?
I am very well thank you. I bought the plans from www.selway-fisher.com/Stornoways.htm#OWAY
Love it. Thanks for that wonderful video. 🥰
How is the stability of this? Also, would you get a family on board, two adults and two children? Car toppable?
Sorry about the delay in reply. It is a good boat for to adults or one adult and two children. I have sailed with 3 adults on board. Reasonably stable and the sail is easy to reef. It can be car toppable but trailer is better,
Nice, very nice.
Such a nice and wellmade little boat! It's a pity, that you didn't use some stripes of dark brown hardwood as Meranti or Teak as a contrast to the bright wood as contrast - but it's your choice :-) The RSS sail, is it the Goose sail?
Thanks for the suggestions. Sourcing exotic hardwoods on the island of Crete proved to be very difficult so I decided to build with whatever the lumber merchants had available and make a virtue of having built the boat entirely from sustainable forest products. 50 years ago building boats in Southampton using mahogany and teak was not a problem. The sail as specially made by RSS from the drawings supplied with the boat plans.
@@MontyPriede Sure, I'm aware of this problems. When I did built my Goat, I used an old front door of my colleagues house and cutted the meranti in stripes :-)
Beauty!
F.Y.I. mast support beam is called the step. The mast step.
I use the term "step" for the block of wood on which the heel of the mast rests. But I guess in an unstayed mast the step is combination of the heel block and the cross beam.
Nice job. Well done.
Bravo!!!
Did you have to put in weep holes?
Sorry about the delay in reply. I have a drain hole in the transom. The bulkheads inside the tanks and under the thwart have drainage notches to allow water to flow to the lowest point. I have no drain holes in the buoyancy tanks. Those I can dry using a sponge through the inspection hatches.
@MontyPriede it's such a cool build.
