Restoring a 1993 Vauxhall Carlton (Opel Omega A) - How bad could this overheated engine be?
มุมมอง 766ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, we assess the situation of my 2.3TD Vauxhall Carlton (sold as the Opel Omega in European markets, and Chevrolet Omega in South America). We determine the cause of a rough idle and smoky exhaust being a head and block in dire condition. Restoring a 1993 Vauxhall Carlton (Opel Omega A) - Interior and speedo cable issues!
มุมมอง 956ปีที่แล้ว
First instalment in the light-ish Carlton restoration. In this instalment, we start with doing the Speedo cable and fitting a new steering wheel, as the weather is currently a poor and inconsistent to tackle the larger issues! NOTES: I'm very new to the whole "restoring a car" thing, so everything isn't immediately obvious to me. Please be kind, criticism is welcome, but please let it be constr...

Can really see the VN/ VP Commodore shape in the Carlton (being that Holden was a badge engineering company). Even the VT was a blatant rip off of the Omega; the only things Holden changed from the original VB through to VY was some panels, interior & engines. Although, i always felt that the Vauxhall/ Opel cars were far better built, better engines & nicer interiors. Currentl fixing my Grandmothers 1996 Holden (Opel) Astra MK3/F/ TR for our eldest to learn in; hard getting parts for a nearly 30yr old rebadged car here in Australia; can get some stuff, interior parts are almost impossible to get

Great to see random channels showing up. Nice save and impressive to see such extensive repairs done outside. Looks like a strong repair and the paint looks fab too.

I am nearing then end of body and chassis repairs ony 93 Diplomat that I've owned since 99. I have another auto 2.0 Diplomat that I've been gradually dismantling, if you need anything let me know, there isnt much left of it, but all the runnimg gear is still attached.

I always love it when people buy cars and ‘grow up’ with them. If you watch the latest video, my Dad says he’s owned his 2.6 Diplomat for 20 years and a lot of my childhood memories are in the back of it. In terms of parts, I’m really on the look out for the door trims for the LHS back door (or ideally the whole car aha).

Thanks quite informative as I will be swapping out my dash for the 160mph as well as the Speedo receiver to gearbox.... As Ive had gsi engine and gearbox transplant the speed at around 80 is out by 10mph and showing higher revs....

Thanks for the support. Alternators seem to be the issue with a lot of the Carltons, we’ve replaced both in the 2.6 and 2.3D. Have you tried doing a voltage test?

Bit of advice, put a cloth/towel on the table underneath the instrument unit. This helps prevent scratching and stops it sliding around. "Total Carlton forum" is a very good, friendly, knowledgeable bunch. HTH

Thanks. I really appreciate the advice and support! I'm a member of all the Carlton (or Lotus Carlton, as the owners all seem a bit more keen to get back to you) Facebook groups, but it's a massive set back that nobody else seems to know much about the 2.3TD engine, as I think they mostly stuck it in the L, and only ever came with manual gearbox. Vauxhall put the same engine in the Frontera, but I can't seem to find many groups talking about them. I'm working hard to get the next video out, it's on repairing the two bumpers as the textured plastic part was seemingly driven into every bush in a 10 mile radius of the previous owner's home. Headgasket removal will be a few weeks after that, currently waiting for a camshaft locking tool to arrive from Germany.... Barney.

Forgot to mention. The reason I couldn't crank the engine is that I'm filming the 'under the bonnet' stuff simultaneously to filming this video, so all the pipes have been removed!
