Cross country ski condition check
Checked out the local cross country ski trail conditions. We have had the cold as the lakes are all sufficient for walkout ice fishing but we need at least a good 4" of snow for any skiing!
Looks like I will have to travel to Wisconsin this winter if I want to do any cross country skiing.

Ice fishing on Fox chain of lakes
มุมมอง 1284 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We went to ice fish on Pistakee lake in northern Illinois. This was mostly a gear test run as we have finally acquired enough of our own gear to do it ourselves. We did not really expect to catch a lot of fish so we were not disappointed. We ended up catching 1 perch and 1 striper bass. Our gear all worked well, the clam shelter was roomy and insulated so it was warm when running the propane he...

4 of us guy's went ice fishing on Devil's Lake in North Dakota. There were treacherous travel conditions with super icy roads and cars and trucks in the ditch all over the place but we made it safely! We used guide Brian Frank with Angling Quest guide service as we have for about 10 years now. He always puts us on fish, whether it is perch, walleye or northern. He is a great guide with vast kno...
Kayaking and fishing Tampier

The last kayak video of the 2024 season. I had some live minnows left from a prior fishing trip so I decided to use them up on a local forest preserve lake. It was a good day for kayaking but the fishing sucked as usual in the Cook county forest preserves. Can't wait till the ice fishing season begins!
Shabbona lake

I did some kayak fishing on Shabonna lake. I did not catch anything, not even a bite. There were 2 other fisherman out that day, 1 in a kayak with all the modern amenities, electronics and an electric trolling motor and another in a 16' boat with a 10 hp outboard. I talked to both of them and neither of them caught anything so I don't feel so bad. It was also super windy with a steady wind of 1...
Governor Dodge State Park Wisconsin

This park is much bigger than New Glarus State Park. It also has a large waterfall and a couple of mid size lakes for canoeing or kayaking. There are many miles of hiking trails to choose from. We took the Meadow trail to the Lost canyon trail loop. It was a total of about a 4 mile walk. Stephens falls is very nice and the trail also takes you to the old Stephens homestead. It's pretty interest...

Hiking New Glarus Woods State Park

Hiking in a small but beautiful State Park in Wisconsin! We hiked on the Havenridge trail which is a 4.2 mile loop. This trail winds though open fields and across forested ridges and valleys. A paved trail at the end of the walk to campground connects the park to the village of New Glarus. This trail parallels state highway 69 for 1.6 miles and connects to the Sugar River bike trail. They also ...
Clinton Lake-Camping and Fishing (10/1/24)

It was our first time to Clinton lake! We were super impressed with the campground and the lake. The campsites are huge and will accommodate a truck and boat, tents and screen house with plenty of room to spare. We had electric this time, so we had some amenities. We set up the screen house for the kitchen and dining area and moved the picnic table into it. Their were not many people in the cam...

Great weather and a great 20 mile in and out bike ride at Midewin! I started at the Hoff road access at old Chicago road. There is a parking lot there also. I rode south to the Twin Oaks trail then went west to link up with the Group 63 bunker trail. Then went west to the Iron Bridge, crossed the Iron Bridge and got on the Henslow trail. I then rode south west on the Henslow to the River road a...

Looking for Bison in Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie but did not see any today. It was a great day for a bike ride. Even though Midewin is only about 20 miles from my house, I feel like I am in the middle of Nebraska. During the week you won't see many other people, so you got the place all to yourself. Also a great place for a run or a long hike!

It was a beautiful summer day so I decided to take the kayak out on one of the local lakes. There were a few fisherman out but I just wanted to do some paddling today. I seen a Heron about every 100 yards or so. There were also Cormorants so the fish population must be substantial if many fish eating birds are present. I also seen a furry critter swimming with a branch to an area on shore under...

Ice Fishing Lake of the Woods Arnesons Resort
Where are you guys fishing at and at what depth ?
We are on Devil's Lake North Dakota, somewhere near the Spirit lake casino. We went out with the guide before it was light out so it was hard to tell exactly where we were. We were fishing a submerged tree line in 15 feet of water. Thanks for watching, I should have a few more good ones coming this winter!
Nice catching Mike! Super windy looking but you guys managed to fill a bucket! Tight lines!
The first day was not too windy but it was -19 in the morning. The second morning was almost 40 degrees warmer at +19 but very windy! If the barometric pressure remains steady for at least a few days to a week the fish will bite better wether it is high or low but when it goes up and down every other day they do not bite as good as the guide was explaining to us. I also found that to be true on Leech lake at my old cabin.

Merry Christmas Mike!
Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year to you and your family! Thanks for watching these videos.
Looks like you could get lost for days out there! Great place for getting out!!!
Great video!
Thank you and thanks for watching! If you ever get a chance to go to Lake of the Woods for ice fishing, I highly recommend Arnesons resort! Last year, the ice was only 12" thick so they transported us to our shack in regular SUVs with tracks on them. The ice needs to be at least 18" for them to take out the bombers. The fishing was really good last January too. We like mixing it up a little so we are going back to Devils Lake North Dakota again this winter. Thanks again for watching, I also have a couple other ice fishing videos if you are interested in watching them! I can't wait to go back.
Sugar Point Resort is a great place to stay . Close to boy bay and bear island and great fishing .
Yep, I have been going there for 40 years. I started going there when the old owners Steve and Bunny Fox were there. I liked it so much that I bought a lot between Sugar point and five mile point. I had it for 20 years, from 2000 to 2020 and then sold it. Great place and great lake! One of the top best fishing lakes in the United States in my opinion. Thanks for watching and check out some of my other videos. I have a video from when I would kayak fish right out in front of my cabin and catch walleye.
Went in 2023. Have been planning the next trip ever since. Thanks for sharing
It was a great trip, We will be going back in summer of 2025, just not sure which specific location yet. Thanks for watching!
Looks like a beautiful park!
Hi Deb! It is a beautiful park, but the next one was nicer. The next day we went to a park called Governor Dodge State Park. It had a waterfall, 2 lakes and is much bigger. The video should be out soon. We also did a bike trail called the Sugar River State Trail, that video will be out soon also.I was with my wife Jackie but she doesn't want to be in the public videos. We had a great time at the brewery!
Great video
I thought that lake had a 10 hp limit??
Any size engine is ok but the whole lake is designated a no wake zone. You can call the State Park office and reverify.
@@mike110outdoors Thanks. I haven’t been there in a long time. You see a blue Lund 14 SSV with a 25 Yamaha it’s me!! I have camped there 25 years ago with my kids. Great place for sure.
FYI........the entire lake is no wake.
I agree with you on Pritzker being a POS, just like all the rest of the democrats! It is a shame Illinois is a blue state. All the rural counties are red except for the Cook county area where the majority of the population is. Crook county as I like to affectionately refer to it! Anyway, Yeah, Argyle lake was awesome and I know it has some super huge crappie. We were surprised by the walleye we caught and will be back when the leaves are changing color to try again! I know it is a no wake zone but just was testing my new water pump installation job for a brief stretch. I will look into the Siloam state park, thanks for the tip! Thanks for watching my video and if you like the outdoors, check out some of my other videos. Most of them are local, semi local and regional so you might be able to make it to some of the places.
@@mike110outdoors I would love to see North of I-80 become it's own State.
Amen to your evaluation of Illinois. I am in a living hell called Illinois and Pritzker IS the Devil! I live about 60 miles from Argyle....it's a great State Park.......nature....fishing wise. You should try Siloam Springs State Park....it's a beauty with good fishing also.
there we are!
Did you do the Namekagon? If so, how was it? Was the water low ? Did you check the CFS discharge level when you went? Hope you had a great time!
Nice. I live western burbs. Gotta check it out.
It's a decent forest preserve lake. The fishing can be ok at times also. You can paddle around the shoreline in under 2 hours, taking it slow. Hope you can check it out before summer is over. It will be time to get the ski's out before you know it. Thanks for watching. Check out some of my other video's, I do a lot of outdoor activity in the local and regional area!
call of the loon! 💙 Boundary Waters changes a person I just did Mosse lake ep 25 a few weeks ago! Went up through Knife Lake and then south through the falls eventually getting to Snowbank Lake after 7 days.
Excellent trip, nothing like the outdoors for the soul! We are going to do Brule lake next year but with no portages, just staying on Brule for a week. Then we can bring tons of gear and set up a really nice camp!
Groat landing does have a picnic table and a firepit for picnics and also a campsite just up river #N55 and can be reached by trail from the parking lot. Before you get to Springbrook north you have to go left at the fork or you'll miss campsite N52.6 you went straight and thats how you missed it.
Thanks for the info! I have been traveling past Trego for 40 years and I must have stopped at the visitors center and grabbed a map years ago and did not remember. I spoke with a man at the visitor center who informed me that my map was over 20 years old and they used to have water there. My map clearly said they have water. I should have got a new map before we left. As far as campsite 52.6, we did not even notice the fork let alone a campsite. We also could not find campsite 52.1 either, which we knew was coming up shortly after the landing! Oh well, maybe next time we will find it. We plan on doing the upper section next, (section 1 according to the new updated maps. Thanks for watching!
@@mike110outdoors @25:18 you passed the left turn yuou should've made to reach the campsite. If you look straight down the river at this part of the video, the campsite is to the left but you have to go against the current for a short way to get to it.

That is one of the most under rated parks in the State of Illinois! It is truly a gem. Thanks for watching!
@@mike110outdoors I’m going Tomorrow morning:) first time to starved rock and after this video we decided to come here first then to starved rock. @@mike110outdoorsit’s kinda crazy I’m seeing this almost exactly a whole year after you
At Matthiessen the river walk along the Vermillion river is also nice. The trails get a little hard to follow so pay close attention. In my video of Starved Rock, I only did the canyons. You may also hike up Starved Rock and Lovers Leap. If you get tired of hiking, you can also fish and have a bbq/picnic, or eat at the outdoor bar which is really cool!
I am super glad you liked it! Thanks again for watching. I try to keep posting interesting outdoor videos as often as possible. Check out the rest of my videos, most are local to the Northern Illinois region or midwest!

I don't know how far you live from Hayward but it is worth the ride if you like paddling and camping! It is a 6.5 hour ride for me but I have been wanting to do this one for years , so I finally did it! There are 5 sections about 30 miles each. We did section 2 so now I must go back and do the whole thing in sections. Thanks for watching!

I just got back two days ago from hiking this 42 mile Pictured Rocks. I went there because of your video. I never heard about it before but it is only a six hour drive from Chicago. it was phenomenal. Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome! Glad you liked the video! PRNL is a great National treasure. Did you go east to west or west to east? Either way it is great.
@@mike110outdoors East to West. I liked it a lot because it just got better and better each day!

But still fun!
I really enjoyed all 3 parts of your R2R trail videos, thank you so much for sharing! P.S my wife and I hiked to that overlook spot 5 days before you all camped there and the rocks around the fire pit were laying down in the pit with ashes all over them, and since I was wearing gloves I restacked them for the next people that would camp there, so that was cool to see you using the fire pit! Thanks again for the videos!
It is good to see that some people leave the outdoor spaces that they use better than how they found it! Thanks for restacking the fire pit rocks, we put it to good use. Also glad that you enjoyed my video and I can't wait to make the next one! Thanks for watching and if you like the outdoors check out some of the other videos on my channel.

Rough going , good trip
What kinda kayaks you got?
One is a Viper, 10' from Menards. Nothing fancy but very durable and fun on rivers. The other is a Pelican 10' which I like to use for camping because it can hold more gear as it has a cargo well in back. I have also modified them both for fishing and added eye bolts for carrying gear more securely! Both are pretty much entry level kayaks roughly costing around $300.
Hey man thanks for the info, been looking into buying my first kayak@mike110outdoors
Cool, I was just out there today
Great place to hike or bike! One of my local go to places. Did you happen to see the buffalo herd? Thanks for watching!
So not including your lunch break, how long did it take you to paddle from Shorewood to Channahon State Park ?? Also, obviously couldn't ID them in the video, but i'd make a very serious wager those snakes you saw were northern brown banded water snakes. Very common here. Another snake here known as a Queen snake is often mis-identified as a Cottonmouth. Neither of the two snakes common to this area area venomous.
This paddle is a little over 2 hours with no lunch break, I believe about 9 or 10 river miles. It's most fun in spring time when the water is higher. There are actually a couple stretches of nice fun rapids/riffles. Nothing difficult, just fun! Thanks for watching!

Thanks Richard, and thanks for watching! I post videos to youtube because I like to inform people of what is out there if they were ever interested in trying to go do it. I really love doing anything that takes me outdoors in any way. This is more of a hobby in my retirement than a way to try to monetize. That is a goal that will never be achieved by someone like me but I still love to make videos of the things I love to do.
Nice fishing video Mike! You caught some nice dinners there! I love ice fishing! Bad ice year but I was out last weekend on the fox chain and my buddy got an 15 inch crappie! It was huge! Tight lines!
Wow, thats a nice crappie! I have caught some nice walleye on the chain in open water but I have never ice fished on it! You are right, it has been a bad year for ice, even way up north in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Thanks for watching and if you ever get a chance to ice fish on Lake of the Woods or Devils Lake, North Dakota you will not believe the quality of the fishing.

Im a Hoosier, heard the Chicago tint right away! Im going up to LOTW mid Jan. Got any tips on best colors? Any help would be great, thanks.
We will be there again this winter also! LOTW at Arnesons Rocky Point Resort. So far our best lures have been the swedish pimple. Any sizes work but we have the best luck on gold or chartruese. Put the minnows head on the treble hook then snip the body off with scissors. There is no bad lure choice really. Small tungsten jigs work well as do spoons. We jig with one hand but also use another set up for a dead stick. ( put a minnow on a hook with a split shot about 6" above) and lower to about one foot off the bottom. Place that pole in a pole holder, some mount on 5 gallon buckets or some sit right on the ground. Each person has 2 holes to use. ! for the dead stick and one for jigging. Sometimes we get more action on the dead sticks! I will be posting my LOTWs video to you tube in early February. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Hi Ken, I just got back from my Lake of the Woods ice fishing trip and we caught most of our walleye on a gold and pink medium size buckshot with the rattle beads in it! We did limit out on walleye and sauger but only caught a few perch and northern! Good luck if you go! Anything with pink or gold or the combination of both was working well.
Your accents have a hint of the north east in there. Fun vid.
Thanks for watching Mike! Youtubing outdoor activity is my new hobby in retirement. I like doing anything within my capabilities in the outdoors, including fishing, ice fishing, camping, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, biking, mountain biking, running, hiking, skiing, cross country skiing and anything else that may come up! I was born and raised in Chicago and still live in the far southwest suburbs. That there is a Chicago accent. I go ice fishing a couple times every winter and mix it up between Devils Lake North Dakota and Lake of the woods Minnesota. We will be heading to Lake of the Woods again this winter so check back in around late February as I hope to have another video posted. Hopefully we will catch a lot of fish! If you ever get a chance, go ice fishing on LOTWs at Arnesons resort! Nice cabins, heated fish houses and good restaurant at a reasonable price!
Great time
