There was the Warsh Quran and the Hafs Quran and different versions written in different Arabic dialects and other middle eastern languages.Caliph Uthmann then decided to burn all the other versions of the Qurans and standardize the one which appealed to him.The Qurans were burned in Medina because different versions and style created conflicts among Muslims.So there goes the theory that the Quran is from Allah and can never be changed down the drain.
