INCREDIBLE sounds, from 'CELESTIAL' by Gerald K. Stoner
มุมมอง 863 ปีที่แล้ว
A performance in three parts, carried out with the permission of Mr. Stoner. Please never touch artwork without making sure you have permission first - especially when you visit Highland Center for the Arts to view this and other amazing sculptures! Notes on the audio: 1: "Rise" - this is completely unedited, raw phone audio! I tried processing it, but for this section it did not improve the ex...
Hanging some sheets, then making Music with them!
มุมมอง 1793 ปีที่แล้ว
Peter Schumann (of Bread & Puppet) created some amazing tapestries from his bedsheets - currently on display at HCA's Open Air Gallery, and I had an absolute blast helping hang them, then music with them! Additional documentation of this exhibit is being done by Jerome Lipani. View on his channel here: th-cam.com/video/w0_i9mXcF3Q/w-d-xo.html Mavis MacNeil, my talented sister featured singing i...
Making Upbeat Music for (and from the sounds of) a Flag!
มุมมอง 2923 ปีที่แล้ว
When making music, typically I am most inclined to the somber & slow. I don’t plan this, it just works out that way. But when it came time to capture (the spirit of) the Flags, at HCA, so incredibly vibrant and cheerful, it demanded that sort of music. So here you have it! At the end of this video you’ll hear some of the most upbeat and joyful playing I’ve done in quite a while. Music made enti...
A Day at the Lake
มุมมอง 1073 ปีที่แล้ว
A tiny film featuring "Poolside, Too" by Hasso Ewing - a sculpture that briefly appeared at HCA's Open Air Gallery, only to be taken down after sustaining damage from a storm. Unlike most other works in Roy's Song of Sculpture project, no sounds in this score originate from the featured sculpture. The delicate nature of this work did not lend itself to sonic exploration!
A L O F T - music made from the Sound of Sculpture
มุมมอง 753 ปีที่แล้ว
Music from the sound of a three-prong ski-binding, and Aloft - a work by Thomas Douglas, with special permission from the artist. HCA's Open Air gallery is open now! No touching of the artwork is permitted.
Saga of the Squirrel

In his youth, our cat Felix was a mighty and prolific hunter. A merciless killer of all small creatures remotely close to our home. He is now quite old - about 15 we think - and in recent years he has mostly retired. This Fall though, he was getting back in the game; with an occasional trophy appearing by the door. That was nothing though compared to what happened one evening last week. As he w...

Simply Noticing | Life & Music 11
มุมมอง 864 ปีที่แล้ว
I was having a terrible day earlier this year, deeply entrenched in feelings of hopelessness and inevitable doom. Then I realized something very simple that instantly made me feel so much better! I had slept terribly the night before and in that moment was exhausted, having beat my head against a problem all day. Noticing this fact actually made me smile; filled with joy and relief because I kn...

Social-media anxiety is something that I’ve struggled with quite a bit. Long before that though, plain old fashion social-anxiety was also an issue. I’d leave a conversation with someone consumed by worry and regret - feeling terrible as I replayed an interaction over and over, which they probably didn’t think twice about. This seemed increasingly ridiculous when I became very sick. Suddenly en...

Life & Music 9 - Post Transplant Feelings
มุมมอง 2204 ปีที่แล้ว
Reflections on a new found optimism and some tearing out of hair. Deep fear of relapse, finally laid to rest by the first scan post-transplant testing negative. Special thanks to my supporters on Patreon. It is because of them that I did not give up on making these videos a long time ago. Because their support is ongoing - and directly associated with this project - I think of them each and eve...

Life & Music 7: Postponement
มุมมอง 2714 ปีที่แล้ว
A scan from last week showed an "uptake" of metabolic activity (i.e. my cancer is active again) resulting in an indefinite postponement of the stem-cell treatment, until a more stable remission has been achieved. Discussion is underway for exactly what next therapy will be administered . Meanwhile the "in isolation" recording project at Highland Center for the Arts continues, with a brand new p...

I just happened on this tonight. It is beautiful viola playing! Your honesty and openness is admirable and and an example to all of us. It takes courage. ( from Mary Lou)
So glad to see the update and seeing your health is strong!!
I'm a bit late to comment, but very cool!
Sweet & Awesome 김윤환, New York
Very creative song
Thank you so much! Its amazing how liberating it can be to work under a constraint like that. I'm doing a little finalizing on the mix, and uploading to streaming platforms soon.
What a sound of joy! Way to go, Roy! (No rhyme intended!)
Thanks Stella! Guess you're a poet and ya don't know it, as they say 😉
Bravo! Stellare! Fantastico! 1000Grazie!
Thanks so much my friend!!
Great fun to watch, maybe not so fun to have lived through. Alice was very funny
So good!
Your introspection is amazing and your interpretation of the art, I believe is spot on.❤️
Thanks Stella!
This was a great video. Seems the algorithm favors this one, so here's my obligatory "here before this blows up." I'm so glad that Christopher ended up retroactively endorsing your use of his statue, that oh-shit moment when you realize you've used something without respect for how its owner values it is one of the most harrowing forms of guilt, and such experiences in my life that never had a resolution have left me unable to sleep many nights. But in the end, Christopher's work will forge an impression in a great many people's hearts.
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment! Not so sure about the algorithm favoring the vid quite yet, but perhaps there's time and you are right. Contending with the possible guilt of upsetting the owner was a strange thing indeed. I've been trying more and more to resolve these things as soon as I can... its massive, unnecessary drain of energy.
Hey Roy, I listened to this today! It's so clever and so true... really helped me in a not so great day I was having. Got me laughing!
So happy to hear this, thanks for watching :)
Best wishes for a healthy & happy future - L & M
Roy - I so admire your attitude and approach to life. Michael is here, and I just showd yours to him. -- Love from both of us and our whole family, Louisa Drury
Hi how are you nice meeting you here stay safe More power. To you
Roy, I can tell you from personal experience, that finding one's best self will take a lifetime. It doesn't happen overnight. Having a positive attitude makes all the difference in the world and is half the battle. Keep on keeping on. ; )
So beautiful!
Thanks Stella!

Wow, this is EXCELLENT and very on point. Thanks for sharing 👍
Oh my goodness, YES! I think about this stuff a lot. Language is so impactful and being aware of its nuances can really make a difference. <3
Thanks you, Roy, for sharing your positive mind-shift - helpful to many of us, no matter what our circumstances or predicaments. I know just what you're talking about, and appreciate your expressing it for the rest of us. - especially substituting "could" for "should". It is beautifu, the way you express yourself so well and clearly and thinkingly - and helpfully - Louisa
Thanks so much for watching Louisa, and leaving this lovely comment! That you find my videos interesting, and even helpful means a lot - Roy
So glad to see an update, hearing, and seeing you and your art/gift of music and communication
Praising God for your good news. You are in my thoughts and prayers! :)
I love your positive energy :) always rooting for you!!
Sorry I didn't see this before now, Roy. I hope all is going well for you.
So glad to hear that the stem-cell was a go. We continue to hold you in our thoughts and hearts - Helen & Brendan
Wishing the best with this next procedure, and looking forward to playing some music hopefully later this year!
You will be in our prayers every day as you go through your stem cell transplant Roy. All will be well. Much love, Randy and Rachel
Hope everything goes well, Roy. All the best.
Thanks for the update Roy. Always good to see you.
Best wishes Roy, looking forward to seeing you when we get to Vermont in a month.
It would be super awesome to all connect if that's at all in the cards!
You WILL beat this!
You're so talented. I have faith you will prevail. You make beautiful music people need to hear. The island song makes me cry. I saw your performance at the highland center, about two years ago. It was breathtaking. Literally brought tears to my eyes. (I was the odd technician from Virginia that mostly just soldered in the corner of the room, I wouldn't be offended if you don't remember me.) Much love, and much respect to you as a musician. I truly wish you the best. You've got some fight in you. Be strong and continue to bring your talents to brighten our world. For as long as you can. With love from Virginia, I'll keep following your page Roy. Keep making music!
Hey there, so nice to hear from you with this lovely comment. I do in fact remember you! Its amazing to hear that 'Island' was that impactful. Sometimes I question whether it matters if I write songs or not, and basically stopped for a time. Knowing it might mean that much even to one person makes it 100% worth it, and gives me a huge boost to continue. Thanks for the kind words my friend - it means a ton ❤️
@@roymacneil3160 Yes sir, it does matter. Good music is timeless... speaking of which: did anyone roll video on that concert? The "evening with Roy" show I was talking about? I think it would make a wonderful addition to your TH-cam. Anyway, say hello to the family. I spent enough time in the cafe, they might remember me too. I hope they are well, send them my love. They were all real nice to me in Vermont. If you want to go private with this conversation, it's the same username, at Gmail.
In the sad news, you have found a lovely vocal register. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you, Roy. I have heard from your Aunt Joyce what a talented, beautiful person you are in every way! You are truly a blessing to so many souls during this journey.
We love you, Roy! <3
The theme at the end when you accompany yourself on the violin is magnificently beautiful Roy. God bless you and keep composing.
Everything will be alright...
I've always admired and envied Roy's talent. Vulnerability can be a form of strength <3 Play on, Roy!
Hi Roy, I thank you for inviting me to your preview last night. I did watch it then and decided to watch it again this morning. Sometimes you have to absorb art to fully appreciate it - to reflect on its meaning. The subtlety of music, movement and voice made me think of nature awakening, being alive, despite difficulties, then sleeping to recharge for the next day. Wonderful piece!
This is a very beautiful and inspired work, calming, reassuring and reminding us of our shared humanity. Thank you
Dear Roy, Your music, your environmental images and your thoughts are heartbreakingly beautiful. We have to be hopeful and remain hopeful even at the worst of times. You and our family are always in our thoughts, Your Cousin Susan
The music is perfect...as is the video...a lovely memorial.
Hi Roy, I am glad you can tell us what you are going through. I have you in my thoughts and hope for things to work out for you. Vermont is a good place to spend your time and finding things to appreciate. I hope to hear your music this holiday season. Sending love your way.
Roy - thank you for sharing your journey. You are a gift to us all. I'm praying you will receive healing and peace through it all. I look forward to playing music with your again!
I’m beginning to pick up trash quite a bit too! 😊 near my home, walking Polly.
good for you!
I was worried about your shoulder pain, but elated to learn that all you have is Shingles. This is fabulous news Roy! Ha! Your video is giving me encouragement about a CAR T clinical trial that I am lining up as my next option. Thank you for so artfully sharing your cancer experience.
Praise God! Sorry to hear about the shingles, but this, too, shall pass!
So happy for you, Roy! I can’t imagine what a relief it must be for you and your family!
I’m so happy to hear this! You are a warrior. And so talented. These videos are so interesting. I watched my father battle with cancer for four years. You have a lot of wisdom about this kind of battle: what a GIFT you are to the world!
