Building a pedalboard for my guitarist friend's wedding. The venue rules meant no amps on stage and no m8cs on drums, due to noise restrictions. So, all guitars and basses had to go through the PA system.

Hahaha
Did the Klusons require any drilling? Cheers
Yes. Filled the original holes and re-drilled.
Awesome cover
Thanks
nice vid, thanx
How did you manage to not make the fretboard too high for the telecaster bridge?
I seem to remember the neck pocket was very deep
@ I want to make my old beat up les paul like your guitar in the video but my only problem is the fretboard, It has many dents on the fretboard, Do I replace it?, or there are other solutions?
@fenderjin4900 I'm not a guitar builder, I just do it for fun. But you can buy fret radius sanding blocks from Stew Mac. So you could remove the frets, sand the dents out with the correct radius block and then re-fret it. You can get gauges quite cheaply on amazon to measure fingerboard radius I think. A lot of work, but if it's a project then might be good fun.
Thanks fella, just ordered!
Talks like a pro but plays like an absolute beginner.
I don't think I even talk like a pro 🤣 It's just a hobby. I play bass usually.
is it possible to fit a 12 inch speaker? (obviously modding the cabinet).. ?
Probably not room. There was a 12 inch speaker version available I think.
video that was 2 years ago is still helping me to this day i was going to get the fs-6 for xmas and i have saved alot of money for my parents getting this instead. thanks!
Great. Glad it helped.
Is this a light instrument? Very interested if it is
No. It weighs about the same as my Les Paul.
@@shakyblues2099thanks - no use for an old timer then. My no. 1 is a Mike Lull M5 and it’s 8lbs. Sometimes would like just a 4 string though 😎
6:20 - This is not how you check intonation. What you want do is to cross-reference is the 12th fret harmonic vs. the _fretted_ note on the 12th fret. If they are not at the same pitch, the saddle for the string needs to be adjusted. The unfretted string vs. the 12th fret harmonic will _always_ produce a perfect ocatve and does not tell you anything about the intonation of the instrument. Any plucked string does this, it does not need frets under it to do so.
Good to know. Always done it with the harmonic. I'll change my ways.
@@shakyblues2099 Well yes, with the harmonics. Just not against the _empty_ string, but against the _fretted_ string - on the 12th fret.
With pick? 🥲
Yep. I'm a plectrum player.
Carol King, that's all.
@@mrbassman2400 Maan keep calm :) i meant that how you can make review of bass with using only pick. No that using pick is bad....LOL :)
Is it compatible with cube street 2?
No idea, sorry.
You get what you pay for, I guess.
Yeah that is not the amp for you if you’re trying to play clean like that lol. Sounds like your style of playing would be more suited to a princeton reverb. But you were (at least when you put this vid out) totally missing the point of small tube amps like that- the point of small tube amps like that is to play them turned up to where they crunch-up and distort. I have both an origin 5 and a 1x12 princeton reverb and the marshall sounds horrible clean, the fender sounds amazing clean, and they both sound amazing pushed. When you play them hard and they distort- no overdrive pedal I’ve ever heard sounds as good as a pissed off small tube amp. That’s the whole point of a small tube amp. Modelling sounds decent clean, but it cannot touch the anger of a small ticked off tube amp clipping. I wish it could lol. I’ve played most of the top digital setups- and they sound decent, and they’re convenient, but man they absolutely cannot sound as good distorted as a small tube amp being played in anger. A good example is the tones from “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” solo, that’s a Princeton reverb with no pedals, just cooking.
Thanks for watching. Yeah, agreed. It wasn't the amp for me, you're right. I bought a Katana 50 in the end. Love it. I tried a few small valve amps out - a couple of Fenders, a Victory and an old Cornford, but I think I'm a solid state guy.
@ to each their own! Yeah katanas are pretty good for lots of sounds. But for me- absolutely nothing does edge of breakup like a Princeton reverb. The amp that always makes me put the pedalboard off to the side lol
Lovely builds, nice playing👍🏻. I have the JA kit ready to go when I get around to it and the same NWG nitro paint so very interesting to see how yours came out
Thanks. They're great fun kits to build.
Nice review. I have one of these and they are pretty good
Hello, j'ai la même en orange ! J'ai changé le micro et j'ai mis un sillet en os. Changé la prise jack et le condensateur. C'est petites modifications font que cette basse est formidable, peut être un peu lourde à mon gout .
Before it was maybe not perfect, let's say 98/100 ... Now it's -98 🤣
Just what I needed - thanks!
I've just bought one, second hand but new, for a few bucks. I've just changed the strings (there were just crap) and now it sounds great. For the money, this is a great bass. I love it.
I wish these “reviews” would skip the unboxing. Too much time wastes watching someone unwrap… bass review please. Not a packaging inspection
Skip through. Personally, I like them. Everyone is different.
I’ve got the Rowin-branded version (exactly the same) on my board, for just the reason you mentioned at the end… insurance against amp failure. The speaker sim is pretty OK, I’ve found… and, being analog, no latency to worry about. Kind of a no-brainer, for the money
Kinda sounds like the new passive sterling ray
Pretty underwhelming to my ears, honestly...
Fair enough. Everyone likes different things.
Just to be curious what is the weight approximately is that bass, I might get it myself
About the same as a Les Paul
It is definitely a semi hollow. But I wish they had gone with a shorter scale like the EB2 or the Epi Rivoli.
Harley Benton also has one like those you mention as well
Excellent review, very informative. Bass sounds really good. Cool looker, would have been awesome if it had the elephant ear style tuners.
Super 👍👍👍👍
Peter Hook would like it.
Sounds really good!
It's a great bass. Can't believe the price.
the switch is definitely neck coil, parallel, and bridge position and the pickup sounds like it is in the music man sweet spot.
It could be parallel - one coil - series.
@@MotoMarios true, but series would have a higher output and darker sound that i personally don't hear
@@mangofactory.mp4 True that. But with some pickups the difference for some reason is attenuated, like for example the noiseless blade pickup by Nordstrand, (which I own and know very well).
Sounds like it's flat down, mid-push middle, mid-cut up.
I was simply researching the zoom P4 , came across this vid… Lead singer has a phenomenal style of voice ! Easy sub and Like. Keep promoting those vocals !!!
Thanks. I'll let him know. He has a TH-cam channel. Look up Gaz Parker. youtube.com/@gazparker6972?si=CiZIEazJvaFQSFwj
I have the "other" Harley Benton semi-hollow bass and this seems like a really different beast. Looking at the specs it's 34" scale, definitely has a wider string spacing at the bridge to accommodate that pickup. The one I have is short scale with narrow spacing. This seems like it's partially based on the Jack Cassady Epiphone.
I agree. Reminded me of that Epiphone a bit too. I prefer this, though. The Cassady one looks great, but didn't feel as good to me.
@@shakyblues2099 I'm curious about what the switching circuit is. Could just be treating both coils as single coils and doing "bridge", both parallel and "neck", but a more sensible setup (which they may have done) would be series, parallel and single.
@eyeball226 No idea. Very different sounds, as you can hear. I'm hoping HB does a video explaining. Couldn't find anything in the Thomann description.
Seems like they have done several production runs already - mine has a nice 5-layered black & white binding on the front (the overall finish seems to have gotten much more attention than yours, unfortunately… sorry.) Fascinating fact - this hollow body is the heaviest bass in my collection.
It is heavy. Agreed.
For those us that are concerned about weight... just ~how~ heavy are we talking?
@@thomaslefree2464 I have no scales, but about the same as my Les Paul. It's not light.
Finally someone did a video on this bass!!!! Thank you man!
Cool bass..great video...how much did the bass cost ? Looks pretty awesome..
£175 (B-Stock) £199 (new)
I've been looking for a video on this bass for a couple of week. Good job on being the first one! I'm actually surprised how good it sounds. Any idea what the switching options are? Series/Parallel/Split?
Thanks. To be honest, there was no literature with the guitar explaining it. On Thomann's website, it just says "3 way switch." I'm guessing out of phase, humbucker and single coil? No idea really.
I believe the switching options are bridge coil, humbucker (parallel), and neck coil.
@@shakyblues2099 You can always touch the polepieces with something metal (string, screwdriver, etc.) and should be able to hear what coil is active.
Same thing I did! Awesome
Hi there! I'm thinking of using zoom podtrak p4 to record the audio at some event. So it seems like this device records well when it's connected to dj audio system?
It records well. Any audio signal. Just plug it in, set a level and then hit record. Really easy and simple to use.
@@shakyblues2099 appreciate for your response!!
Not a word about how you hear yourself on gigs with this setup.
Apologies. Through the PA monitors. Board goes straight into the desk via XLR.
Those tuners look great! What model of tuners did you install? and did they drop right in or did you need to drill? Looking to make the same upgrade!
Kluson Vintage Tulip Tuners. Pretty much lined up.
@@shakyblues2099awesome. Thank you!
Great work! Answered my questions about this unit. Will make an affordable scratch pad for writing songs!
The Wannabe Busker has info on cigar box guitars
Absolutly amazing. I'm getting me one as quickly as i can. Super awsome for my Katana 1 super amp.
And that's all i needed to know. Thank you veeery much.
What’s the latency like? Noticed on G4M’s website they never listed this? My band uses IEMs just for a click track, sick of using long cables, so was gunna pick these up just for the click send, so obviously need something low latency!
We haven't noticed any latency. There is a bit of background noise on these because they're cheap, but nothing offensive.
Did you do something to the bridge support, too? I’m referring to the squares I see around your bridge posts.
No, it's just where the dye ran into the grain, so I assume there is some kind of reinforcement there that Epiphone employ in the build process.
@@shakyblues2099 Thank you 🙏
I think it looks great. Be unique! After all, Lennon and Harrison sanded the finish off theirs.
