GSOV's lovingly presents LILAC TIME set to the sublime music of FRANZ SCHUBERT. Six performances only in a Dandenong Ranges Garden. A fantised romance of Franz Schubert in love with Lili, Vienna 1826.

Neither is it an opera
Humans who sing to their cattle are doing the right thing. And their cattle are gorgeous, they deserve a serenade!
Love the overture graphics! Nice treatment adding historical & artistic flavor to the whole of what’s to come. If only the audience weren’t inclined to applaud every bit o’ song…
Actually, it's Sullivan and F.C. Burnand
We did that musical 🎶 in our town long ago
Fabulous. I adore The Arcadians and this looks like a wonderful production.
Best costuming of Yeomen I've seen yet!
Very well done indeed! But given that you restored "A laughing boy" and the 3rd and 4th Yeomen it's a shame you didn't include "When jealous torments" for Shadbolt.
I love this show! Was there ever a complete video of this production?
Seen this so many times, forgot about it until today!
After at least 50 years I started grunting " Come now, stop your philandering " - I am 142. Lovely!
Ein Super-tolles Stück, eine herrliche Aufführung! Vielen Dank für's Hochladen! 👍🎶

Line fluff at 1:09:11 “thy brother and thy brother and myself”. Enjoyable production nonetheless.
You might want to have another listen. No fluff there. lol
0:46 i can hear the xylo being played on multiple notes.
Wonderful singing 😍
Superb!
Fabulous!
I first heard this on a Parlaphone that played 78s. The Parlaphone is a portable wind-up gramophone using a steel needle linked to a mica plate for sound. It comes in a very nice wooden box and still works. I regret that I lost the original 78 record years ago. I really enjoyed the music. A terrific musical. Thanks for making the songs available. I really enjoyed the Cobbler's Song and When a Pullet is Plump.
I also heard it that way - as a child I could sing every song by heart. Great to hear it now, after all these years.
Nice.
thanks for the posting of an unabridged yeoman. very fine voices, orchestra, costumes and production. australia certainly leads the way in keeping live g&s alive
It took me some time to catch up with this performance, which I enjoyed very much. As a G&S tragic from way back and a documentary maker, I understand the problems that can beset the documentation of any performance. For such a monumentally long piece, a great outcome for all concerned.
McIntosh venture, the oriental extravaganza Chu Chin Chow, opened in Melbourne after a 5 year run in London. This lavish production starred Vera Pearce, Arthur Styan and Charles Workman and had camels imported from Central Australia and purebred Arab stallions on stage. The production had the misfortune to open during a transport strike, and despite a private Tivoli bus service to encourage suburban patrons to come into town, the takings did not balance the outlay.
The 3rd and 4th Yeomen's parts were reinstated! No wonder this act is as long as it is. I am ever so psyched to start working with Savoy in this operetta as Leonard Merryll himself!
I have watched both Act 1 and Act 11. Just brilliant. There are some real stars there. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Gerry.
Thanks for thinking it nicely done. The show was not miked or mixed in the Theatre but the sound was only captured for this video. If you knew Steve Bullock who does this for us for free you would never use the word sloppy. use is He is a man with a mission and works to his utmost in the constrained budget we have for such shows.
A good amateur production with mostlygood lead voices and good acting for the most part.. Phoebe,Jack Point and Elsie are excellent and as they are the centre of the opera, all is well. The small ensemble vocals are well done. Nice to hear a complete version for a change. However, it is miced, recorded and mixed rather sloppily. The strings are often completely overwhelmed by the brass. Some judicious leveling and compression and attention to not drowning out some of the lead voices with the orchestra.would have improved the overall sound greatly. Still, any Yeomen with dialogue is a treasure. Not an easy show to perform properly. Overall, nicely done.
Act 2 can be seen (hopefully) by the link below

A highly reputable performance. THE ARCADIANS is arguably one of the most influential musicals of all time.
I have posted Act 2, but in a different channel. Don't understand how TH-cam does this.

But where?
Why are there so few versions of "Kissing TIme" posted on TH-cam, and why is it never in these compilations?
Why not get the full show on our 2016 DVD? "Kissing Time" is beautifully done by Jessica Lesley Harris. Go to www.gilbertandsullivan.org.au and go to our shop.
@@charlieinson I hope she is plump as "a pullet" & older than Marjanah the ingénue. Also that she sings the nice counter-melody which isn't in the vocal-score. It also works as a duet especially with the original comic tenor Ali Baba Courtice Pounds. Unfortunately on disc they gave Alcolom to the ingénue Violet Essex . She sings the counter-melody & so does possibly the original Alcolom Aileen D'Orme winningly singing it as a solo (also a 78). That's the whole idea of "Any Time's Kissing Time". Older people can love. Your first item on the film is "Olive Oil" from the Robey (does he sing in it?) film lowered for deep basso Malcolm McChean? (spelling. Sorry!) one half of duet team Flotsam and Jetsom. The Inia Te Wiata arrangements are appalling & he sings lots of songs without characterisation. Typical of some l.p. s. The Linden Singers are better (original orchestration). They could have had at least one more item without the reprises at the end. What is really supposed to be sung after "On with the wedding!"? I wish you'd put your complete production on youTube.
My father always loved this and took us to see it at the Birmingham Hijppodrome ? in the late fifties. Inia Te Wiata the New Zealand singer played the main character. It was wonderful and I still have the LP. Wish I could buy the CD.
please bring on Act 2 this is such a fine production would like to see how it ends and how the music and acting is played out

Thank you Uncle Robert for such a lovely tribute. I didn't realise how much I miss him and Nanna until now. I have so many amazing memories that I will cherish forever. They were the best grandparents ever in the whole world and I am so grateful to have had them in my life. I nearly went through a box of tissues watching this video and can't wait to share it with Daniel and Christian when they get home. Grandfather definitely lives on through his boys though. I see so much of him in dad and yourself and Paul too. Unbelievable. Happy Birthday Grandfather all my love Michelle xo
