I am a retired aircraft mechanic and would never do this. You guys mention it will not damage the bearings, although you may be correct about the bearing, the bearing carrier is pot aluminum and will crack very easily. The LU case also being aluminum and thin in places at that. This is not to mention when a prop-shaft is bent, depending on how long it has run before the repair, the bearing is more than likely already damaged. As already mentioned, the cav plate above where the porta power makes contact is thin but further back near the anode area, most older Mercs will crack in this area from everyday use. Applying a load like this will surely cause damage. Sorry I see way too many issues with this to ever try this.

What damage would u expect from an out of spec shaft spinning on those same bearings? Its a call between how much to spend for the owner and the small chance that this will/might result in more damage or not - risk vs cost is a consideration for many boat owners who have older rigs..

not a aircraft have straighten literally 100dreds of prop shafts for the past 30 years never had one come back it got bent by being hit if it didn't hurt the bearings then it's doesn't hut to straighten

@@fishingwiththebyrds5446 The force required to straighten the shaft should be much greater than the one that bent it.

Yeah, I can't come up with the best terminology to describe this idiocy.

just a good way to ruin the bearings

webgiorgio cannot possibly hurt the bearings you're not going to smash hardened steel against a race this tool is an excellent idea the only thing I would be worried about is possibly cracking the aluminum housing if you got carried away with the Jack

@@davey306 late reply but did you see the shaft run out before and after? Before it looked marginally bent to the eye but after it had almost 5mm hahahahah. Hope that micrometer is a 10mm one.
