How to keep your OEM backup camera on your late model VW CC/Passat/Golf with an aftermarket radio
Hey everyone, today I will show you how to keep your factory backup/flip camera on your late model VW CC/Passat/Tiguan/Jetta/Golf if you install an aftermarket radio. No RCA to RGB converter needed! All you need is a Farka male to RCA female adapter and a long enough RCA cable to run to the radio!
Hope this video helps. Please leave a comment if you have any questions and I will answer them!

I Bought a Super Rare $75,000 Electric Cadillac ELR Sight Unseen and It BROKE On The First Drive!!
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
Hey guys, thanks for stopping by and watching this video! If you liked it, please leave a like and subscribe. I am hoping to do more cool and unique rebuilds in the coming future, as well as showcase how I modify my cars. In today's video, I showcase my Cadillac ELR that I bought from the auctions sight unseen. I will take you through the tour of how I restored this ELR back to its former glory...
Why the heck did they put the module right there? It's right in the way
Hey where did you purchase the fakra adapter from? I got a aftermarket stereo but in and I bought the other adapter and it doesn’t work.
Interesting, thankyou for this vid. I have the same setup. What was the problem in the first place though? Does the camera not flip out? Because on mine, the camera works with an aftermarket radio, however whatever is needed to make the camera flip out, doesn't happen. I only know the camera itself is working because If I shine a torch into the camera I can see it on the screen.
You can't buy coupe and complain about rear seats... Unwritten rule ....
Good job Nick!
Thank you for sharing 👍👍
Excellent video. Sight unseen took a lot of courage. I couldn't do that. I considered one before deciding on a used 2013 CTS back in 2017. I had to have a sunroof and ELR does not so that was the deal maker fot me. That red looks just like the red of my cts.
Excellent review. Great job!
Nice work, what is the real world all-electric range you are getting? Is EV mode selectable or the default start-up mode? Can you select to start in ICE mode than switch to EV or vice versa?
Lets put the charger in the corner where most accidents happen
nice video
The reason it is so rare is not many people wanted to spend that much money for a glorified Chevy Volt. It was sold as 2014 and 2016 models, only. GM didn't make a 2015 model. GM even dropped the price $11K from the price you listed for the 2016 models and still could only sell 550 of them. It's essentially a plug-in hybrid with 39 miles electric range, 37 miles for the 2014 models.
Looks sexy.
I have the same problem with my CTS 3.6 seat heaters. When they worked, they were barely heating up, unlike my brother s Escalade heated seats.
I assume you did not pay $75,000 : ) It is a beautiful and economical car, as long as you got a good price. Let us know how much : )
How everything going with it since the video , nice work brother. The car is beautiful !
You bought a virgin ECU and programmed it at a dealership?
Get them reprogramming vids uploaded!
What did you use to reprogram the modules?
What's your email or ig ? You did a great job and im looking at a gray 09 hard drop top. New sub✌🏾
2023 updates please
Look like you guys just busted it
Best car I ever owned. It was my daily driver for 6.5 years before giving it to our son. That was nearly 35K miles annually. Before that I had (3) Chevrolet Volts. No reason to drag race. Enjoy the drive!
While I'll never get tired of the lines and styling of my 2014 ELR I purchased in late 2017, here are the cons starting from the worst: 1) Battery life: after about three years of ownership I started to notice the battery range was starting to decrease overtime. Originally, I was getting about 35 miles of range, now I'm only getting I'm getting less than 20. 2) the ICE is noisy as hell and is under-powered, lousy gas mileage. 3) The trunk doesn't lift up not is there any room. 4) The side mirrors don't have the option to retract via remote. Other than that, I still lover the car. Wish I could convert it to full EV.
Did you ever figure out your range issues? That’s not normal for it to stop at 5 miles range it should go to zero. My 2014 is up to date and I goes to zero before starting the generator
Unfortunately no... my guess is that my cell pack has a higher internal resistance when it's near empty as the cells are in balance within 20 mv. I've just been enjoying it as is for the time being
Would you be interested in selling it? I'm looking for one.
Hey Nick! Thanks for the video! I'm thinking about getting an ELR. Do you think this car is pretty reliable? Is it cheap to maintain? How's your experience so far?
Hey! Since I've had the car, it's been very reliable. Power train wise, it's the same car as the gen 1 volt, so you can easily find parts. But... Body panel parts are almost impossible to source. But great car, love it!
250,000 miles reliable that’s how many miles I had on my 14 just bought a 16 with low miles, love this car❤️❤️🍀
@loritucker8342 I'm curious.. I've had many Volts and want one of these. I've never had any of the "issues " others have. Someone said the "shift to park" etc. Did you have any of those big issues? I want to run this up to 250k
Awesome video. My dream car. Me inspiraste a comprar uno en subasta
Very cool work. Can you confirm if the driver's side mirror has auto-dimming? Thanks.
Neither side mirrors dim only the rear view does
@@joshmaier18 Okay. I recently purchased mine and wondered if there was a malfunction. I'll seek an alternative to add it. Thanks for the response.
How much did you buy it for. I almost bought that car twice. I still think 🤔 it's pretty cool.
14k!
@@nicksgarage417 NIIIICE 👍
If your gas engine is kicking on with 5 miles left, the HV battery is starting to go out. It'll probably get worse over time, keep an eye on when the ICE kicks on. Ours took about 5-7K miles to go from the ICE kicking on at 1-2 miles of range left, to the ICE running all the time.
I did a battery capacity relearn and it seems to help a bit. It'll kick now at 1 mile
@@nicksgarage417how do u go about doing that? Tech2?
@@realliveboss5381 MDI and GDS2
@@nicksgarage417 thank u
excellent job!
Great car, owned it, same color and 27k miles since bought used 2 years ago. BUT an $85k car with notorious “shift to park” killer is INEXCUSABLE!
Quick tip on the rivets... Just push them in, no need to drill them
Absolutely beautiful interior but if i had $75 thousand i would have a Lexus ls 600 hl 5litre v8 for around 30 thousand 👍
You are very lucky to get a ELR it is a very unusual and nice looking car i must say
Omg 😢what are they doing! Thats Not how u seperate them a heat gun and pry tools is what a needed.
That’s what I thought but apparently this is another method that many professionals use.. go figure..;
@@Mr77Trojan on e70 heatgun or oven doesn't help much. BMW used different glue on this one, so has to be cut unfortunately
Does it run in gas also
Yes
What was the mileage on your ELR when you bought it? Also, has the battery needed to be replaced yet?
The milage was around 37k miles. None of the batteries were replaced (12v and HV are original). Hope that it'll go for thousands of miles more!
@@nicksgarage417 What year is yours? We have a 2014 and have 46k miles and our battery is already needing to be replaced.
@@virginiahannah2613 mines a 2014 as well. What symptoms does the car show that makes you believe that the battery needs to be replaced?
@@nicksgarage417 After parking it in low temps and not plugged in for about 8 days, the battery failed and went completely dead while driving it. I had to turn the car off and back on to start it again. We took it to the dealer and they tested the battery and said that several cells in the battery were not holding a charge.
@@virginiahannah2613 yeah, with the volt and the ELR (or really any EV), NEVER EVER let the car sit with a low battery in the cold. It's a recipe for disaster. Always have some charge in the battery if you're going to park it in the winter for days without plugging in. The car will use the battery in the background to heat itself and will discharge. My dad's Tesla model S had a similar fate. Before selling the car, he got a replacement battery pack replaced under warranty. After he sold the car, the new owner left the car to sit over the winter unplugged and the battery discharged itself to the point that the car is bricked. You can probably get your car back on the road by clearing the codes and just keeping the car plugged into the cold/having some reserve charge in the pack. Hope this helps!
Tnx for ur work man💯🙌🏽…just about to upgrade mine
Would be nice to see what the flares looked like…
I’m buying one this Wednesday. It only has 58k. I pray I’m nothing buying a junker car.
There’s Fosho a tune if it backfires . You got a steal thoe bro congrats
I normally hate grey interiors. But wow, this is the first car I’ve seen pull it off. Looks amazing!
Excellent video, the best I've seen, and I've watched lots. I happen to own a twin to yours, and it's refreshing to see a highly complimentary video on it. Most are basically knocking it. Super job,
Can we see a video on reprogramming the footwell module?
Sure, I can make a video showing how to code the FRM in the future. I can make a video showing how to add it so the VIN matches the car and how to customize the config to enable/disable features
Nice, how'd the fender flares turn out?
They came out great 😃
I have a 2016 ELR and its the best vehicle I've ever owned. Get one if you can!!!
I've been researching the 2016. I gotta say it has become one of my favorite potential next buys. Just wanted to ask you how many times would you have to plug it up on a long trip like Michigan to Illinois? approx 250miles/4 hours. I'm really looking to switch to a hybrid or all EV, but I am worried about running out of power and not being able to charge the vehicle on those long drives from Detroit to Atlanta. Also would recommend the ELR for someone who travels those distances twice a year?
@@laron9817 Well, that's the great part about the ELR or Volt, you get 30-35 miles of EV and then you can run it on gas. The real way to drive these cars is going speeds under 50 and stop and go use EV, on the highway you use gas and you average 70+mpgs.
@@TimeHomicide wow. I have to test drive one now. Thanks for that info
I'm looking to add to the Volt family, how can you tell if its performance? I want it with the ACC.
@@laron9817 You never have to plug it in on a 250 mile drive or a 3000 mile drive. Just burn gasoline.
Did u replace the tires yet? If so which ones did u get? Also what led angel eyes did u get
I replaced the rear ones and moved the old ones to the front. I'll get new tires when the summertime comes around since I don't drive the car in the winter😀.I found the LEDs on eBay and they were an easy-to-install kit. They clipped right in, no glueing required
Great vid. I recently got a 2009 E93 as well
