Train with Sleeper Sharks (Maledives f.e.) if you are not familar with higher tonnages, stay upright and keep respecting them OGs as they‘ve got 200+Million years of evolution on you 😄 oh, and stop hitting/shaking those f‘ing pipes… if you need those, you‘ve lost line of sight which is BAD to begin with

    Even without the shark that safety stop is a mess. You've got people at different depths all over the place, not sticking in buddy pairs closely at same depth. Someone's DSMB has got wrapped up around another diver and seemed to be clipped on to a BCD?! Buoyancy control poor, everyone had drifted up to between 1-3m. Stay at 6m min for your stop, watch the shark closely from below - exit to the boat efficiently one at a time and wait for your turn at a safe depth/distance. R.E the shark - frantic tank bashing won't help - poking it and thrashing around neither. Stay calm and upright in your buddy pair or more.

    Is the diver with the wand the dive master? Seems to me his tapping his tank is to divert attention of the shark away from the other divers. I’ve dived with curious sharks, but none that were as curious as this one. That looked like a really dangerous scenario. I was watching his pectoral fins, they didn’t seem to show aggressive body language, but it seemed to me it sampled the taste of a fin of the guy at the surface.

    My goodness my goodness my goodness. You do not become entangled turning your back dealing with some knot with Oceanic whitetips around you. That is just unbelievably dangerous. You just do not become entangled in that situation. You don´t come as near to something that might entagle you when diving with oceanic white tips. Unbelievable to watch. One bite and you will surely be in danger of bleeding out. You don´t turn your back to that. you handle the entanglement later or simply cut the line.. Too many people lack a sense of awareness of the danger that is involved in diving. This is the problem with diving tourism. The guides should have gone out of their way to go between the shark and that most inexperienced diver. That shark diving company seem to be totally out of control and completely without any sense responsibility. Painful to watch.

    Kudos for the honest title. People need to learn to read shark body language if they going to dive in THEIR habitat. They communicate through position of the fins and exaggerated movements (especially after they first check you out) = GTFO!!! While sharks aren’t the psychotic murderers Hollywood makes out they can still be EXTREMELY dangerous. If your stupidity gets you bit it’s gonna hurt but even worse it will end badly for the shark and lots of its family and friends

    I just finished a shark week in the Red Sea with Oceanics being the main attraction at deadalus. We were SPECIFICALLY and thoroughly trained in how to interact with this apex animal, what to do, what not to do In case of a close encounter (which we beautifully had). THIS IS WHAT NOT TO DO. What the hell were they thinking. This shark is super apex, intimidating and will not think twice about taking a chunk out of you if provoked and overly curious. Srsly I am shocked - don’t dive with them if you do not know how.

      It's to get other divers attention as sound travels slow underwater.

    • @alexreef36
      @alexreef36 ปีที่แล้ว

      To give you a more indepth answer, its simply a medal rod that Diving Pros use. For example, it can be used to wack against your own air tank to get the attention of other divers, as the noise is very loud and distinct. It can also be used to point at things, which can be useful when you are macro-diving (looking for very small stuff like Pygmy Seahorses). It is certainly not a shark defense stick. Also, it is a bit of a stretch to claim that it pisses off sharks. You could argue that it can catch the light and flash (which can look like a fish in distress), but in general, loud noises scare sharks off. Oceanic White Tips are very curious sharks though and not easily scared off. However, the diver didn't have many options except for using the stick. The bigger issue here was that everyone was flailing around a lot. Sharks are generally not dangerous to divers (but Oceanic White Tips are a bit of an exception), but moving in panicky ways, and not being close together can cause issues.
