No. That's not the way you tell... First of all, Army basic rifle marksmanship, the curriculum itself, is completely flawed.... The chances that a line soldier is going to be laying down on hims little tummy,.and engaging targets at 300m, is complete fallacy... I've seen guys that are great with a rifle, flunk out on qual courses... And I've seen guys that have shot expert their entire lives, end up with Marksman on the next qual...and so, because that would be his last qual, he is stuck with that Marksman badge, until the next qual.... So... It is by no means a definitive means of measuring one marksmanship abilities.... Not to mention, a lot of this is dependent on the range itself... Some ranges are just hard... Woods rifle range, at fort knox, is an extremely hard basic qual... There are some ranges at Polk which are gravy.... There is a range at the camp Beauregard range complex, in Louisiana, that is extremely hard... Fort Hood has some good ranges... It really depends when and where... Some of these guys going to qual, might have just gotten in off of a 6-week field exercise... With a cumulative 14 hours of sleep for the past month and a half... So... Like I say... It depends on a lot of factors. And there is a very specific criteria, and a certian metric..... But again, that metric is not the end all be all... Lastly, there's a big difference between basic rifle marksmanship, and actual combat rifle marksmanship... Which one would you rather be good at? Two completely different doctrines.
