The fragility of this fanbase never ceases to amaze me. The return of BoP was needed.

The refs decisions were correct,the offside was offside,the so called penalty if given would've been harsh on Villa,very soft call. If arsenal had a penalty like that given against them,they'd be going crazy,the Havertz handball goal not given followed the current rules too the letter. Decisions didn't cost arsenal,it was there lack of finishing. With Villa on 14 EPL wins in a row before the game(15 after,a new record for Villa), although arsenal had 1 extra day to recover from the midweek games,they were never going into this game & picking up an easy win, anyone who expected that outcome is arrogant & disrespectful towards Aston Villa,who are a very good team & the league position doesn't lie..... Up the mighty Villa!!!!

I think our biggest issue is that both our 8’s are playing as second-strikers, which leaves the central progression duties wholly on the DM (and Partey is the only that can do that in our team). I expect less than nothing from Havertz, but Odegaard constantly taking shots rather than help centrally seems to me like it’s an instruction from Arteta. Which is worrying. We all know how stubborn Arteta is. And with these Toney links….he’s getting dangerously close to being put on fraud watch for me.

Would having a DM that can play with his back to the game help with central progression? With Partey, 1 quick turn followed by 1 line-breaking pass and boom! We've progressed from zone 8 to zone 14 in a few seconds.

It definitely feels like Odegaard is trying to take too much responsibility in games. Fulham last week as well, too many ill-advised (and poor) shots and dwelt on the ball too long. Reminds me of Bournemouth at home last season. That said, maybe he feels obligated to do so because he sees how ineffective our wingers have been, and how there basically isn't anyone next to him in the left half-space that can step up, strike a ball, play a through ball, etc? I feel like Havertz is negatively affecting this team in more ways than we realise i.e. not just Martinelli.

Really don't understand it. Kai in LCM was supposedly going to make us explode offensively, when in reality it's done the opposite by forcing our dynamics across the team to change just to accommodate him there. Hopefully Mikel either tweaks the dynamics to maximise our "pods" or reverts back to the old system (with Rice in LCM), because right now we're only winning games because of individual quality (of almost every player tbf) and elite structure.

Superb analysis gentlemen. I certainly hope we are able to overtake Man City but I cant and wont underestimate Pep. I hope Pep continues to leave Foden on the bench. Foden is a certified matchwinner and he must play with Gundogan out. If Foden starts the year on the bench, i think we have the opportunity to open up a gap at the start. The most encouraging takeaway from the Community Shield was Arteta's willingness to sit back and play a more defensive/conservative set up to grind out a result. I believe we have the squad to get it done but George hit it on the head: we needed a 2nd marquee addition. I believe Havertz will make or break the season. The Havertz funds applied to Caicedo would have made us favorites in my opinion and a Goncalo Ramos would have been a much more prudent purchase. ESR is healthy and covers most of Havertz attributes. Why would we sacrifice move Odegaard's production to move him deeper for Havertz? How can Arteta rationalize Havertz over Trossard; particularly when Trossard arguably outperformed Jesus last year at the false 9. In tge unfortunate event that the experiment wuth Havertz does not work, i hope Arteta is able to push his pride aside, concede and play the players such as Trossard and ESR. Again, excellent show Gents and and here's to Silverware this season.

I like the idea of the diamond a lot, but it doesn’t seem like it’s in Arteta’s plans atm. And if that’s the case, I’d prefer to keep Kai on the bench. Martinelli is the more guaranteed goal threat and you don’t want to mess up his dynamics, and Rice+Partey for proper transition control (major problem this preseason) and ball progression. I would be fine with Timber at LB, so long as White plays RB.
