No. After I installed a new bearing it had no play and whining noise was gone. Plus this is a Polonez with Rover engine and it doesn't have a "support" bearing in crankshaft although it should.

@@djape1977 Why it doesnt have support bearing? It should have one. HK1012 on 1.4/early 1.6 and NA4900 on later 1.6 and all 1.8.

@@tomaszdabrowski8021 because whoever engineered a Rover engine into a Polonez was an idiot? It is an e gibe engineered to be used in transverse front wheel drive application. So irs logical it doesn't have a spigot (support as you call it) bearing. It also has a distributor on the rear of camshaft housing. Whoever came up with the idea of installing it in Polonez didn't change absolutely anything on the engine. Instead, they made a longer input shaft for the gearbox and longer bellhousing, making the problem of non existence of spigot bearing even worse. BTW, the same problem is present on diesel Polonez with Peugeot 1.9 engine

No part on the engine assembly can be modified, changed etc. Where exactly is the problem with distributor on the back of the engine? You dont have to look there everyday... Well, you have no idea what are you talking about. Its non existent in your engine, thats probably a swap from FWD car, but its there from factory in Polonez. HK1012 bearing was used as spigot, support, whatever.

​@@tomaszdabrowski8021the car is fully original with only 43.000km on the odometer. Inside and outside everything is in condition that's right for the mileage. Engine was not swapped or has any significant work been done to the car at all. In fact I'm the one who changed the timing belt first on this car. Engine number is same as in the purchase bill. It doesn't have a spigot bearing and it never had one, just like several diesels that I worked on. This implies that engineers were idiots. They made the bell housing and input shaft longer to accommodate the distributor on the back of the engine, or in the case of diesel, the vacuum pump. If they had moved the distributor/vacuum pump elsewhere they would have saved a lot of trouble and money. Further, you're the one calling 5mm of play normal for the input shaft which is a clear proof you have no idea about mechanics. Plus the Rover crankshaft has a protrusion on the rear end which serves as a guide for the flywheel making installation of spigot bearing in it or in the flywheel complicated and expensive.
