    Dear Dr. Burns, Your message really touched me. Your comparison of emotional intelligence to being a painter with a broad palette of colors was especially beautiful. It made me think about how much more vibrant and rich life becomes when we learn to recognize and express our emotions with greater precision. You've such a gift for making abstract ideas come alive! You and Teresa must've worked really hard on your ideas to create such a beautiful and meaningful video. Can I wonder if you’re feeling inspired, vulnerable, hopeful, proud, caring, maybe passionate, excited, thinking that you might have something meaningful to share with us? Maybe a little anxious, thinking maybe it won’t be good enough (even though it's excellent!) I can sense how much thought and heart you’ve put into sharing this with us. I’m grateful for your authenticity and the way you’ve connected with us through this reflection. Seeing your friendly and kind face on video is like manna to me; I’ve been a fan for years. Your books are my go-to every day, and they've transformed my perspective. I’ve read Feeling Good countless times, and each time it resonates in new ways. As I practice the techniques and revisit it, my understanding deepens and evolves alongside my life experiences. And "Feeling Good Together" is simply life-changing! It’s hugely impacted how I approach relationships and communication. I’m absolutely thrilled to see your new videos! I can see how much effort you've put into creating them. It feels like I’ve been waiting for them my whole life! Now, I can tackle my chores while enjoying your warm and humble presence on my screen. Honestly, it’s impossible to feel down when I see your friendly face and hear your wise and compassionate words. Thank you for all you do. It’s such a privilege to learn from you, and I feel so grateful for your presence in my life. You’ve made an incredible difference in my life and in the lives of so many others. With heartfelt gratitude, Maria

    Do you have a technique for losing huge amounts of money and being near bankruptcy? I was always someone who was very careful with money but still ended up somehow in massive debt, mostly due to my recklessness and I beat myself up about it. The thought that creates depression is "I shouldn't have made so many dumb mistakes and my betrayed my family" and the one that creates panic is "something massive will happen that will ruin me".

    "Feeling Good", the book mentioned in this video, is one of the great self-help books written by Dr. David Burns. Its language is sincere and straightforward. It's full of warmth as well as truly useful methods such as 10 cognitive distortions from which I've benefited a lot. Creating an app that makes these tools immediately available when one is in need is a great idea.

    This was great! I think you can tease some more of the methods for dealing with the labeling cognitive distortions, and segue into “the app will help you make a regular practice of using these methods and keep track of which is most effective for you” 😉( it does keep track, right? I suppose I could do the same cognitive distortion a few times in a row to see what method it pulls out 😂) you have so many darn methods in your books!

    It’s tragic that this dynamic existed in their marriage and that she wasn’t willing to look at her (massive) role in it. It seems like she also tries to construct that “don’t talk about what I don’t want to talk about” dynamic elsewhere (with you😮). One would hope her interpersonal dynamics would be more clear to herself with a mood journal, but it’s hard to get that habit going.

    Thank you dr. Burns for this video. The thing that bothers me is, doesn't Jerry make equally bad communication mistakes? Can't communication problems go both ways? Is it only his wife's fault that he hasn't expressed his feelings for years?

    • @FeelingGreatApp
      @FeelingGreatApp 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have a theory called "Interpersonal Relativity." It goes like this: the person seeking help with a troubled relationship can always be shown to be the 100% cause of the problem. So if Jerry had come in asking for help, he would have found out, as you suggested, that he is creating the very problem he is asking for help with. This is why relationship problems can sometimes be harder to treat than individual mood problems, because the person asking for help will have to examine their role and stop blaming their spouse if they want things to improve. And this is almost always painful, but potentially super rewarding. Thanks! Important question. Both partners will be screwing up, though in different ways. best, david

    The only thing I would push back on is that there seems to be an assumption made in this dialogue that those who voted for Trump were only Republicans. There was clearly a sea change where people of diverse political parties and ideologies voted for him, including a lot of Democrats who were unhappy with the status quo. Again, we must be careful in this type of discourse that we don't reinforce that there are only two ways of thinking or political leanings.

    This was a fantastic video… for white males. There’s a large number of non-white and/or non-males that were personally devastated by this election. This reaction was for a number of reasons including how many fellow citizens chose a candidate who said such terrible things about people that look like them and a candidate who would at times advocate for policies that would harm them (followed by saying the opposite a week later). It would be an amazing service if you could amplify the voice of a some people for whom this election took on a more personal tone as they work through TEAM-CBT.

      Thanks for your comment! On the question of climate change, I don't generally go after topics but rather helping someone who is struggling in a particular way. It's totally ok and good to be alarmed about real problems that we face. If your alarm is interfering with your life, that's something we could pretty easily modify. But you might want to dial down your anxiety and concerns rather than making them disappear entirely. warmly, david

      @FeelingGreatApp thanks again for these lovely videos. Could it be that at the root of it all is the fear of death - the fear of all fears? I applied the techniques in your book "feeling good" for about 4 months pretty regularly and finally one morning I woke up and I was free of all of my worries, in a state I had never experienced before feeling light as a feather. One of the things that occurred to me in that period was exactly this.

    Really loved this. I’m a trump voter and I’m grateful others voted for Kamala because they voted their conscience and intuition. What else were they or I supposed to do? ❤️ also, thanks to your work, David I was prepared to lose gracefully and keep joyfully loving my life
