Rethinking Resolutions: A Gentler (and More Effective!) Approach to Personal Growth in the New Year
Hey friends! Welcome to Girls’ Night!
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but today is our very last Girls Night episode of 2024 and of Season 19! I’m closing us out with a solo episode - we're chatting about how to reflect on the past year and prepare for the year ahead!
This episode was inspired by the project I’ve been working on for the past few months, but really the past few years, and that’s my New Years Reflection & Intention Journal. In it, I finally get to introduce you to the New Year's Journaling process I’ve been doing for the last ten years.
Friends, 2025 is full of possibilities, and it all begins with a clear vision and intentional steps. Today’s episode is going to help us take action toward the life we actually want to live.
I can’t wait for you to tune in!
P.S. We will be back for Season 20 of Girls Night in February of 2025! We have incredible guests and topics in store for you!

Girls Night #249: A SNEAK PEEK of my new book, Create a Life You Love
I read your book this year. It helped me so much. I also read Rachel Hollis' book Girl Wash Your Face. Both of you have changed my life. My husband has celiac and doesn't know how to cook. Although he's trying to help in the kitchen more, I do most of the cooking on top of being a full time manager at a craft store. A retail schedule is not accommodating so I have to work around it. Your book helped me see that life doesn't have to look a certain way or traditional way. Life is different for everyone. Thank you for writing your book. Thank you for this podcast.
I love her as a guest! I wanna hear more of her stories! I can’t wait till she is back on the show!
I feel like there's a "yes and" to what u said. like obviously beauty can be an interest (it definitely is for me), the process can be calming and be a type of self care, but we do have to talk about consumerism, for example how the beauty industry has us convinced that we can buy happiness through getting all the "self-care" products; we need to talk about obsessive tendencies in regards to esthetics (which i can definitely relate to, i definitely remember the panic attacks i've had when my makeup wasn't "just right" for an event), we need to talk about how beauty, beauty productsis a tool of opression
I sent the comment accidently before finishing it. I'll continue: and we are forced to make the choice between either using them and therefore reinforcing the status quo (even if we don't want to), or not do that and be "punished" for it. And there's a lot of things we need to talk about in lots of details, but that doesn't negate from the fact caring about beauty is not frivolous. It can definitely be a source of joy, and self expression. And even someone has a hard time with beauty because of the reasons i listed bellow, that still doesn't make it frivolous, i'd say it's the opposite actually. We should not shame people for caring about beauty
Happy birthday Annie and Quinn!
The last 4 years have been crippling. No backup food stash because food prices leaped and so we had to use our reserves to still eat. Had to replace a roof, furnace, A/C unit, toilets, a brand new shower that had been installed without a water barrier, insulation, washer and dryer, fridge, etc. from when we got scammed on our flipped house and still more needs done but we've wiped out our retirement accounts and had to get a home equity loan. To say we are strapped is an understatement and I just got laid off. Not that we get to go on vacations or actually enjoy our lives since we usually work multiple jobs and still couldn't make ends meet. We've already sold most everything but our beds, vehicle and phones. Wish I could find a way to live instead of struggle constantly. Can't sleep because the stress.
@@mindymillikan1587 that really sucks. Sometimes life can just beat you down. I’ve been there when it comes to not being able to sleep and think about finances all night. You think you can get out of that house and rent for a little to just pay off stuff and give y’all some breathing room?
I had $40k in savings at the beginning of the year, after having to replace 2 HVAC systems in my house, and replacing the roof, also repairs on our septic tank tail lines and vehicles I’m down to about $5k. I’m ready for 2024 to be over haha
This is amazing, why has this not got more views/comments! I'm yo-yoing between deciding on having children. But I run my own self-employed business in the equine industry. Which is my life's passion! But can't I be both? ❤
Can we have Heather on your show?
When you transfer your main attention from your husband to your children you fail at your responsibility of being a good wife and good mother. The number one need a child has is to see parents in love.
Said no one ever
Oh life is hard
They dont ask men bc we are expected to be grown ups
I am where you're going and you're right
Questioning authority seems like a wasted effort. In turn, you'll spend a lot of time tending to your self-inflicted gunshot wounds to your feet.
That’s actually an exaggerated statement
Sending you love 🫶🏾

I am all three of those types.
This is really helpful about what deconstructing means. I never understood it before.

This is truly such an amazing video! ❤
Loved her on ramsey.

Madie is amazing!❤ Love her passion for Jesus😇🙌
Everything went well until she mentioned yoga🙈 no christian should do yoga. Before I came to Christ I was practising it+meditation and I opened myself to demons. I had crazy demonic attacks, from which Jesus finally saved me. In yoga every posture is a worship to a god, so it is not just a workout. Of course someone can say, oh, I have it under control, but really? Pls, listen to the story of an ex-yoga instructor (from New age to Jesus:Jaroon's testimony) who was doing it "only" for workout, but in the studio he went there were spiritual leaders who step by step lead him deeper and deeper into the spiritual side and he started to have demonic attacks, too. There are tons of other types of workout....christians really should not do yoga!
So glad I watched this-especially for that last question. I relate so much!
Do you have a link to the Comfortable Couch Company? A general Google search did not yield any results haha. Thanks!

Loved this episode ❤
So excited for my pre-order to come in just a couple months!!! My unintentionally chosen "word for the year" is freedom because I am specifically trying to get free from all the voices and opinions you talk about, so this is just perfect. I am so proud to be in this community. Congratulations, Stephanie and team!!! 🎉
I'm currently pregnant with my first baby, and this conversation was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you🤍
“Instead of focusing on the perfection of your heart, focus on the direction.” Now that is a gem. I have been a follower of Sazan for two years now since I rededicated my life back to God and I must say she and her husband Stevie are truly remarkable people and definitely can see Heavenly Father moving in their life. ❤

i read the book and it’s one of the biggest blessings for my life. i needed to heal so many things inside of me, God literally talked to me through this book. Madi has a beautiful gift, im forever grateful
This was so awesome
I definitely resonate with you about bubble baths! I enjoy it for about 2 minutes and then I’m done. Water is too hot to start and I feel myself sweating. Comfortable for .2 seconds and then it’s too cold. More effort than its worth. A nice shower is amazing though 😊
No way! The makeup artist and hair stylist I had for my wedding used Honeybook. So cool to hear your story! (5 minutes in lol)
Edit: What an inspiring conversation! Thank you both for putting this out into the world. Congratulations on your new book! 🎉
Sooooo soooo good!!!!! So many gems in this podcast. I love hearing from Madi. I can’t wait to read her new book!
Welcome back for another awesome season!!!! What an episode dropping wisdom right out of the gate! You two are such a joy and it’s hard to imagine either of you feeling unlovable…and yet it’s so relatable because I’m a person who seems likable and kind and gets along with everyone, and yet I’ve had that unlovable feeling (or only lovable from a distance and then when they get close to me think “uh, never mind. It’s better if I stay back here.”)
What Amy said about rethinking rejection is SO GOOD. Instead of thinking a friend rejected you and your invitation to hang out, think of it as an open door for them to invite you to hang out another time.
Hi Stephanie (& Kailee) I found this video really informative and crammed full of good advice. You both give off such positive vibes together too. I used to be afraid of walking home alone at night before I started to take self-defense classes, and I'd like to share some tips that I've leaned from my classes so far with all of your female viewers, which I hope can be of some help. There is a lot of overlap with the powerful techniques that Kailee shared in the video which was was great to hear. I've recently been taking Krav Maga for women classes for self-defense, and so far I've learned that the best best self-defense targets on a mans body for women (and girls) to attack, and the best ways of striking them are as follows: - the eyes (finger poke them) - the nose (palm heel strike upwards) - the throat (chopping like actions) - the testicles (knee / kick / punch / slap / grab-twist-pull and hold on to them tightly until he collapses and passes out within a matter of seconds) - the knees (sideways kick to dislocate) We always remember "eyes, nose, throat, testicles, knees" or "eyes, nose, throat, balls, knees" I've also been taught that even a trained, determined teenage girl could easily take down a man if she goes for these targets, especially if she goes fast and hard for the eyes or the testicles (or "high balls" and "low balls" as I've also heard them called!) One very powerful technique I also learned is that if a man has removed his trousers and he is about to rape you, then his testicles will now be extremely vulnerable to the "grab, twist, pull and hold" counterattack. You should quickly snatch his balls, give them a short sharp twist so that they become locked in your grasp and cannmot easily escape, and then keep squeezing and pulling them as hard as you can until he passes out in under 8 seconds - and I've been taught that he will , no matter how big and strong he is. You can even use both hands, and it's still just as effective even if you only manage to get hold of one testicle. Apparently, when a man has his testicles forcefully squeezed it causes him to curl over, collapse, convulse and quickly lose all of his strength before he collapses and passes out or goes into shock in under 8 seconds. Most importantly this holds true no matter how big and strong he is - a wonderful natural advantage we females have in combat over men. If you think about it, we as women as no part of our bodies as vulnerable as testicles. Surely this is something we should all be made aware of and we should all be taught how to do it! I really wish that more women and girls were made aware of effective ways to fight back - in particular I wish they were made more aware of this "ball grab and hold" technique. From what I've read and been taught it has literally saved many women throughout the world. The women of Somalia even have a name for this move and they call it "Qworegoys". Mothers teach their daughters to reach under their attackers tunic and grab, twist, and pull his testicles until he passes out, and to also tuck their head in until the point he loses consciousness in case he initially starts to fight back. We, as women, really can fight back effectively, stay safe, and lessen our fears if we know how and where to strike on an attackers body and most importantly, learn how to "fight dirty" ❤
I love all your conversations with Mari! I started listening to the episode on making new friends 6.5 years ago when I moved to grad school, and now I’m getting ready to move to Texas for my next job. Thankful for this perfect timing!!
Love you and your work Stephanie 🤗
Thank you for this. Wish I had this message a long time ago. Took me 3 years of talking and praying before I broke it off. "Prolonging it doesn't make the pain less." I pray that if someone else is in this season that they will have the courage to take that step.
I enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing! 💝🙏🏾🙂
This was great. Thank you for sharing
Such a great podcast! Y’all hit on some good points! Personally, I’m so guilty about the silent treatment! But I think it’s because I hate confrontation, especially when I’m confronting someone with a “big personality”. I think I’m afraid of being viewed as weak, or gas lighted and told I’m too “sensitive”.
