'STAYING ALIVE' SURF MOVIE GISBORNE NEW ZEALAND

First attempt using maverick drone footage - some nice shots looking down into the sea showing off Gisborne Roberts Road, Harbour and Young Nicks Head - New Zealand. The ocean and waves look way more interesting with a 'birds eye' view. Some light relief to start off with and then just sunny surfing...enjoy

VHS tape sorry - but captures the Makorori First Light 7th event held at Tolaga Bay - 2001/2002 I think. Has footage of heats during event. Also some fantastic footage of secret spot in some solid surf with some great longboarding - go to 4:10mins and skip competition surfing. Some excellent footage prior to advent of the GO PRO!. Music - RUFUS "Innerbloom."

Childhood memories of living in Aden 1964 to 1966

Tried to capture the flavour of living in Aden during the 1960's. From the sounds of call to prayers from the mosques around Steamer Point to the ships that came into the port, the beaches - Gold Mohur Bay, Telegraph Bay, Open Days at RAF Khormaksar Air Force Base, Cisterns of Tawila, Cricket Game, Hand lining and rod fishing, Camel Riding, RAF Hospital Aden and even some postcard images. Nice ...

    Hey gordon - sorry for my late reply - just a big thanks for your great comment - nice piece of history on the master Mickey Munoz - loved it. So stoked over this boards I now have a quiver of 3 of the 12 footers plus also have the 10'6" one (which flies). Have tried out piles of 12' to 13'9' (Dragon Board) boards - and the Mickey Munoz one is the best by far. Neat to meet on line someone who has personally known 'mouse nose'.

    I'd have to say, of all the old classic shaper's, Mickey, and we used to call him "mouse nose" when joking around, was one of the best at capturing the genius of Joe Quigg, whether it was high performance long boards in the 50's or catamarans in the 60's, to the Hobie sailboats and skiffs of the 70's, Mickey got it, and incorporated it into his designs and took the Joe Quigg thing to new places. He is such a character, and used to come stay at our house and work on designs with Joe when I was just a little kid. And he crewed on Joe's fastest cat in the world at the time, in the mid '60's, 30ft "Gusto", when they made the fastest time, unofficially, in the history of the annual Ensenada race from Newport to Ensenada, several times.mickey is truly one of the greatest watermen of all time with a plethora of other cohorts, like the Hoffman brothers, Flippy and Walter, Phil's Edwards, Velzy, Hobie, and many others. And he's still going. He's an animal! But a very stylish one... His 12 ft surftech is a perfect example of his Joe Quigg talent and craftsmanship.

    • @gisborne12ftsurfer
      @gisborne12ftsurfer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John - tend to do majority of my surfing in Gisborne (generally because its just about always good). Have headed to the Mount on occasion but that's abut it. I have a quiver of 12 foot plus boards (12'4" Jinx, 12' Bob Davie, 12' Mickey Munoz, 13'9" Dragon Board) and one shortboard - 11' Mickey Munoz). So always have a variety of boards to surf on - and since we are so spoilt in Gisborne don't do many roadies. The Dragon board is the most interesting and I'm actually really starting to get the hang of it - and the joys of not having a legrope. Cheers

      @@johngrywalski1128 - Hi John - if travelling with these beasts suggest your best board to travel with is the Mickey Munoz tuflite 12 foot board. These ride beautifully and can take some punishment without getting dings. Had mine for over 10 years and its still in A1 condition. Even better suggestion is get the Mickey Munoz 11 foot tuflite board - they are a bit more manageable for travelling around with - and catch waves easy and are easier to handle in larger surf - they are a bit looser than the 12 footer - and are still wave catching machines. You will not be disappointed - I go down to the 11 foot Munoz for winter surf as its better in the stronger and larger surf. Enjoy you surf trip and all the best - cheers

      Thanks for the hint Roy - no doubt practise makes perfect on this board. I have been looking at your you tube clips and facebook and studying the master. As a novice on the dragon board - my initial impression is they actually surf remarkable well - smooth on the face of the wave and remarkably responsive for its size and weight. I am very pleased with this board and definitely a proud owner. Thanks for you comment - cheers

      all good, she's easy to ride really. Just saw you and the board parting ways a couple of times, which doesn't need to happen if riding from the middle. am super stoked that she's back in the water, Built in a bus by the way, with hand tools, sold to dusty for two square meals (literally) when broke

    • @gisborne12ftsurfer
      @gisborne12ftsurfer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoyStuartwarpdrive Sorry for my late reply - thanks for the additional background info about the board build - I will add this to its history. Amazing that you crafted the board in such a confined space and just using hand tools! I'm hoping the two square meals were worth the sale of such an iconic surfboard - I certainly could not believe I managed to get this board when it came up on trade me knowing the amount of blood, sweat and tears would have gone into its making. In meantime applying your advice and will be posting another clip in a few more weeks - with an improved technique (I hope). An early Merry Xmas to you in meantime - cheers
