Wonderfully simple!
What watercolor brush did you use
You are the first person that actually helped me with this. Thank you for being clear!

Thank you! -Silvia NY
This is so amazing!! Thank you for sharing this process, I've been wanting to upload my artwork and make my own custom fabric (very similar to your holiday fabric, which is BEAUTIFUL, BTW), but more of a beach/coastal theme. Your instruction was excellent! Quick question for Canva - if you upload your images to Canva, does that give them any Rights to your artwork? Thanks again!
Thanks for the compliment! Your artwork should only be accessible on your account, similar to uploading your photos, not for Canva to use as their own.
Hello... greetings from India....
Can you do this on a iPad??
Thank you Shalece!!! I love your tutorial teaching style. Please keep up the excellent job of sharing your talents and skills. Peace & Blessings to you 🙏🏾
WHAT ABOUT DPI???? PLEASE ALSO TELL WHAT 1200 IS IN INCHES.. VERY IMP!
12 inches x 300 dpi would be 3600x 3600 pixels. Hope that helps.
I've been having white lines when I try to connect tiles as shown in another video is there a way to fix this I'm looking to have designs printed on sheets of faux leather 8?5x 11
It has to do with alias/anti-aliasing. This was a big problem of mine for a long time too. Make sure the image repeats exactly (to the pixel) and it should get rid of the line. If you've uploaded an image that's already a pattern it may be cutting off a pixel or two making it not a true repeat. You may have to layer the repeats slightly to get rid of fine lines.
Can you do this on the Canva mobile app for IPhone?
The mobile app in my experience isn't as user friendly. I haven't tried making a pattern but when I have to edit other graphics I get frustrated. For now on the computer is the easiest.
Quick question...when you make the patterns, do you get that fineline when you try to repeat the pattern? I don't see it when I'm creating the patterns in illustrator and doing a preview. But when I upload the file in canva and try to repeat the pattern, I get that line and I don't know what to do to make it disappear.
Sometimes I even get that fine line in Illustrator. I have to change settings in illustrator to do anti-alias to get rid of it. I'm not sure how to get rid of that in canva. Theoretically if it repeats exactly it shouldn't have a line, but I struggled with that for while when saving images from Ai. I'll do some research to see if I can find out.
Thank you
You're welcome. Thank you for watching.
A very nice tutorial. It's easy to follow with the white backgrounds and small clip art pieces. I can clearly see what you did.
Thank you so much!
this tutorial is so good. but my question is about source file. how can we get source file from canva?
I'm not sure what you mean by source file. Can you explain more about that and maybe I can find out for you.
How did you create the individual graphics? I downloaded an image bundle from vecteezy, but don’t know how to create individual graphics from it. Any ideas?
I scanned my watercolor painting into photoshop, then saved each one as a png image. If you have a graphics bundle you can upload each one just like you would a photo. What format are the images in?
How do I do a single image ! I want to put “baseball grandma” without the repeat just a single 4x4 square
Create a design, custom size, 4x4 in. Then add text in the center and write in your phrase. :)
Option shift is that for Mac users? What do I use for PC users?
Yes it's for Mac. Alt shift is for PC
What if this is hand drawn art then how do I do it?
What do you mean exactly "hand drawn art"? My art is watercolor painted by hand. I scanned it into Photoshop and separated each element as a png file. You can scan each element separately. You may just have to use Photoshop Elements or a free trial if you don't have Photoshop. There are some online websites you can edit images...but you'd have to search a bit.
Go ahead and save it to pinterest I wasn't expecting
Oh, Shalece, I'm so glad I persisted in trying to find a way to make seamless repeat patterns. Yours is absolutely the clearest, simplest and most easy-to-follow video I have found. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief and go and be productive. Thank you so much.
Oh, that is great! Sometimes it is hard to find videos that explain clearly. It took me a while to learn to make repeat patterns...there's not a lot of info out there about it. A book that is super helpful (where I learned in the beginning) is A Field Guide to Fabric Design www.amazon.com/Field-Guide-Fabric-Design-Traditional/dp/1607053551
awesome tutorial you explained it very well
Glad it was helpful!
I notice that when I add my pattern to canvas when I want to order a yard they do not fit seemesle you can tell where it breaks off
Sometimes it is tricky to get it 100% matched up. Photoshop or Illustrator can make that a bit easier.
is it a product selling sites?
Spoonflower is a sight for creating your own fabric/other products or selling it to others. You just have to order a sample before you can make it for sell publicly.
Honestly, there's extremely long tutorials making patterns way too complicated and this video summed up in 21 seconds how easy it can be lol. Thank you.
Ha ha, great to hear!
THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
Would you please make a video on how to create a design that does not repeat, where one element is just in the corner of the fabric.
You mean just like a placement print? I may need a image to see what you mean :)
Wow, thank you Shalece! That was so very easy to follow along with!! My son just created his very own design on Spoonflower and we are going to make a pillow cover for him!
Wonderful!
Great video, super helpful for someone trying to avoid Photoshop like myself, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Am a bit stumped here. What do you mean by "you only want to use elements only, because the graphics are copyrighted"? What is the difference between an element and a graphic, as Canva refers to these assets as graphic elements, so are they not one in thee same?
I mean simple graphic elements (shapes that you can edit colors) instead of the art they provide. I'm not 100% sure of their copyright policies though so maybe their graphics are fine. You would just have to be sure you could use them to resell as a pattern on Spoonflower.
What's Spoonflower & do you have to sign up for it?
It is an online forum for creating/selling fabric from patterns you make. Yes you can make a free account.
This was Awesome and very informative!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! Can I use pixabay's vectors to make patterns without any copyright problems?
Yeah that should be just fine if they’re free for commercial use.
really great work!
Thank you so much!
Wow! I've never even heard of Canva before! Thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm trying it out right now :)
You're so welcome! Good luck. Let me know how it turns out for you.

You are Brilliant mam... Thanks
Thanks a lot :)
Very well done; you have a unique style. I really like the warmth in her face, and the sketchy strokes makes this feel like it was done with real colored pencils- I wouldn't have guessed this was a digital piece. Great stuff, keep it up :) -Best of luck on your art and your channel, and much support from one artist to another. Liked and subbed.
