    Huge compliment. I watched this video with excitement and I have to admit. I don't know of any comparable video that explains things so helpfully. In Germany, this still seems to be a huge problem. Thank you very much. I finally dare to tackle electronics. Greetings from little Germany

    A very informative guide. But, we have the trem wired to the screw inside the body. So where does it ground to after that? Because as far as I can see, though the trem is connected to that screw, collectively they're not grounded to anything. 🤔 Did I miss something?

    Just as you wire leads to an outlet, going over the top of the screw with your hook, allows the wire to be pulled into the turn of the screw, so it does not back out.

    I did this from looking at a guitar wiring diagram, I needed a video to explain better because my guitar was buzzing when I don't touch it and buzzes louder when I touch it.... I guess I missed the grounding from the input jack to the volume, I mixed the ground wire for the other one

    @roycox4415 Thanks SO much for your video. I have two issues: one is that for the umptheenth time my middle tone pot somehow is a volume and sometimes the volume is constant on. Now this didn’t just happen once but it’s a recurring mistake. I followed the video step by step. Could you please tell me how my tone pot could falsely become a volume pot for neck and middle instead of tone? I have soldered middle tab of tone pot to first tab plastic side of switch and third tab tone pot grounded to top of very pot sharing the leg for the capacitor (that goes to the bridge tone pot; bridge tone works!). I also jumped tab 1-2 on the switch like you say in the video - how could the middle tone pot suddenly be a volume? Pickups work, volume works, bridge tone works but the middle tone pot is now a volume for neck and middle pups… any help is greatly appreciated

    • @SixStringJoy
      @SixStringJoy หลายเดือนก่อน

      So the problem is with the capacitor connection from first to second tone pot somehow idk why. In my world logic would dictate that if I connect the same tab of a tone pot to the respective pickup it would be a tone pot - that works for the bridge just fine. But once the tone pot is added to that equation all kinds of weird things happen. I took out the capacitor and now I have no tone pot for some reason but everything else works…. Idk 🤦‍♂️

    Wow. And just like that I went from not knowing a single thing about what goes on inside the electronics of a Strat, to thinking I might be able to wire one up. Very clear and methodical explanation!!! My only question is what is the function of the capacitor. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge with us.

    I don't know if you were referring to Rene Martinez (Stevie Ray Vaughan's tech) or not, but it's funny because his first tech was a guy named Cesar Diaz who was both famous and infamous at the same time. He has since passed, but he did some great things such as making and modding amps, making pedals and such, but he was known to do some things that drew a lot of criticism also. Things such as using WD-40 on pots, which most techs consider a no-no, and being pretty outspoken about doing things that are now considered blasphemous.

    I'm so glad you mentioned API as your favorite pre. I remember being in a B room somewhere in LA with The Box and I was blown away by my sound. I listened to that beat in the car for hours after the session, pre mix and I was amazed at the clarity of a raw mix. I'd heard vintage Neve and SSL 9K also but the API made an impression I'll never forget.

    While the effect may be the same for what capacitors do...affect the ratio of high to low tones that get output...your explanation is backwards. "Caps" act as high pass filters. The high frequencies passed do not vary with different value caps. What changes is the low frequency cutoff level...thus, the amount of low & mid range frequencies that are cut off. In other words, the output varies, with different value caps, from a wide mix of frequencies, to mostly high frequencies (smaller value cap). Thus, the higher value cap (as large as close to .1 will cut out the least mid & bass range frequencies...whereas the lowest value cap (say, .001) will allow only the highest frequencies to pass. The most common values used are : .015, .022, .033, .047, .065 but higher are lower values are available. (...values in "micro farads")

    The Sonarworks Plugin with the Fixed Curve Profile has always to be running in the background, if i quit Sonarworks i get the normal "untreated" sound again, right? I have the Sonarworks reference with the Mic here, but still kinda figure things out and also building more absorbers, Basstraps etc to get the most out of it. Thanks for the Video, very interesting suggestions! Just filling the Studio Desk Rack holes at the moment and after that i will go with a cranborne 500 ADAT modul, you should check that too, its a great Modul with very new possibilities! :)

      yes. so in my case the sonorworks plugin is always in the listen buss section of studio one pro. About once a year ill recalibrate and make an updated profile but yes its always on when mixing or tracking. You bypass the plugin when mixing down or outputting your session so its not burned into the mix. Its a fantastic program that makes a huge difference.

    Great video! For studio, the Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated will be great, but an impact patch will extend the durability more. If I’m doing a hard rock and metal band gig, (Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC), the Remo Pinstripe or Evans EMAD Heavyweight will be perfect. If I’m doing a jazz band gig (Nat King Cole), then maybe the Ambassador Coated or Fiberskyn Ambassador. If it’s a punk rock gig (Green Day, The Ramones), the Remo Powerstroke 4 or Evans EMAD 2 will be great for that. If I’m doing a classic rock gig, (Led Zeppelin, Boston, Queen, Pink Floyd), the Emperor Coated will be great. It all depends on my personal preference, the genres of music and the durability I want

    How do you connect the XLR input from the microphone to the patch bay?

    • @roycox4415
      @roycox4415 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You aren’t connecting your microphone directly to the patch bay, you are connecting it to a preamp first. Some patch bays can actually be xlr patch bays but in most cases you will connect your microphone to a preamp that is wired into your patch bay, not directly to the patch bay itself. In my case I have stage boxes on the floor that are wired to the patch bay. My mics get plugged into whatever preamp I want to use via the floor boxes and then the floor xlr stage boxes are wired to the preamp inputs in my patch bay.
