    I've been using Mix 2 Mold for the past 3 months and for the most part, I love it! They do need to make their pigments better as they tend to be on the light side. I did order some pigments from, I believe Europe as it took twice as long for delivery and they are very good. One tip, Mix 2 Mold has cured within 30 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes. I then remove it from the mold and let it sit for 48 hours for all the water to release. When it's no longer cold I do know that it's fully cured and at that time you can seal it. The price is excellent and it's very easy to use as it does have directions on mixing with no need to calculate the ratio.

    Resin-crete says to add extra water with acrylic pain on the directions, if I remember correctly. I was thinking of the floetrol mix as well and will look forward to seeing the result

    • @jkakstudios
      @jkakstudios 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It would be very easy to sand smooth, but I do think the texture gives it extra beauty. But yes, it's very easy to sand and I would recommend not using any less than 400 grit wet sandpaper. When I sand eco resin I use 400 if I need to remove a lot of material, then finish with a good 2000 grit wet sand to smooth things out.

    New subscriber. I'm new to resin... looking for the safest since I work in my very small studio apartment. One question. Is the curing part the most dangerous as far as fumes? Would an air purifier work since I have poor natural air ventilation?

    • @jkakstudios
      @jkakstudios 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My situation is similar, as my craft room is just a 10x15 foot room with 1 window. If you have a window near your work area, a simple exhaust fan in the window would help. I seldom even use that, as in summertime the window is blocked by the exhaust of my portable AC and in winter it gets too cold to leave the window open. I just use a ventilator mask while I work. However, my craft room is separated by a door from the rest of our living space. I would imagine fumes are worse during mixing and pouring, but the resin does continue to let off fumes while curing. I typically set my curing resin on the side of the room opposite my work area to keep it away from me while I'm in the room. So my setup is far from well ventilated but I've had no problems so long as I mask up while working. An air purifier will help, as long as long the filter is rated for organic compounds. Still, good air circulation is always better. As far as safest resins, I've heard that the "art resin" brand is fumes free and probably some other brands out there but I've never used any of them so I don't know how good they are. All in all, an open window and a well placed fan are perfectly sufficient to ventilate your work area. Keep in mind also that resin fumes typically don't have much of a smell to them, so always use a VOC rated filter mask while mixing and pouring, even if you can't smell the fumes.

    They have larger sizes of ResinCrete that is more economical than the bag that you showed. I have used both brands and I have been VERY disappointed in the Mix2Mold because of several reasons. My first complaint is I have been unable to get glitter or Mica powder to mix well in it. My second complaint is the working time is MUCH less than the ResinCrete which is a big deal for me. Lastly, while your video shows the coloring comparable I have been disappointed in adding any type of coloring to the Mix2Mold. I have used several different methods of coloring and not been very impressed with any of them. You can stir and stir and stir and still it's not quite right all the while the mix is now getting thicker because, as I mentioned, the working time with M2M is way less. I will be using up what I have of the M2M and won't be buying any more. I'll be sticking with ResinCrete because it has given me consistently positive results with everything I've made with it.

      @warriorempathshealingfromn5625 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I sprinkle the glitter and crushed glass onto the mold, for glitter, the larger the better and it will require some sanding for that glitter to appear. I agree with the colors but you can use coloring for jesmonite and coloring for concrete and they work much better. Once they figure out their colors, it will be perfect but for the dollar, even purchasing pigments from the UK, it's still less expensive to use. They also have some colored powders, I have not tried those.

Good Job 👏 I’m wondering how well resin actually sticks to the eco resin. 🤔 An experiment you could do is just make small circles or squares of different colors and set them outside for at least a month and see what happens. You could even do top coated versus no coat. 😊

All they do is buy one, send it to China and tell them to copy it and change it 20%. That is all that is required; a 20% change. I know someone who has had Hobby Lobby steal their invention. I will never buy from those hypocrites again.

I have a rather expensive vinyl model that needs something solid in its feet to help support it, but I don't want anything with an exothermic reaction that could melt the vinyl, and I need it to be strong enough to hold the support rods that will come out of the bottom of the feet. I have watched alot of videos on this type of product and you're the only one that addressed my concerns. Thank you 😊

    Great information again, and a few more tips for others that may watch; purple will cancel out the yellow (so add in 1-2 drops of purple translucent alcohol ink for small amounts, or if using a large amount of resin you can use purple translucent dye a very small amount), when mixing resin stir slowly, scrape the sides and bottom and stir for the full time that the instructions say, and then look at it, if you still see streaks, you need to continue mixing, it is not thoroughly mixed yet, and never add colors or anything in your resin until it is properly mixed first. Silicone tools are soft and wont damage your molds. You did great!

    • @jkakstudios
      @jkakstudios หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I've often wondered if something like that would work, as I've noticed some of the more yellowing resistant resins have a sort of blueish tint to them. It kind of makes sense that that would combat yellowing. Great tip!

      @@jkakstudios It was something I learned, and love to help share information. It's all about helping others know more and teach.. Some of my stuff is just for fun, but some are tutorials as well. I try to work with resins that are no VOC or low VOC for my channel. But I still won't do epoxy resin within 2 days or more (if deep pour) of my granddaughter coming to visit. I have an air purifier, fans, and windows/doors open for ventilation, but I still don't take the chance. UV & polyurethane resin I may use the day before, but I still use all the same precautions with the air purifier, and ventilation. I am in south GA, so we have hot to decent weather most of the year. A dehumidifier can help if the humidity is too high in your workspace also.

    Great tips and information for beginners. I completely agree no resin is truly food safe, tell them to put cling wrap over the board if they want to use it and never cut on it! I have had flash cures using acrylic paint, you have to use it very very sparingly. Yes avoid water, water based products to add in resin. Using a silicone tool to get into the corners of your molds to get the bubbles out will help without scratching your mold. I recycle my resin bits too.

  • @coralmarinesresinart
    @coralmarinesresinart หลายเดือนก่อน

    Lots of very good points & tips for beginners. Just a few extra tips and information; Organic Vapor Filter for the respirator is the type of filters needed, & yes it does matter specifically what type of filter you use for epoxy resin. Nitrile gloves are the best at lasting longer against resisting against the resin chemicals breaking through the gloves, and don't reuse them as the resin breaks the gloves down on the molecular level. For better longer lasting silicone mats, use the baking mats, they don't warp from heat as the resin cures, they are true heat resistant mats and come in a variety of sizes. 91% to 99% isopropyl alcohol not 70%, 70% is still too much water in the alcohol. A round bullseye level is the easiest way to level and keep checking your workspace.

    Your price comparison is not accurate. Things are always cheaper in bulk. You should have compared the price of similar size quantities.

    • @jkakstudios
      @jkakstudios หลายเดือนก่อน

      True, things are cheaper in bulk. I was unaware of resincrete coming in a larger size, but I just checked and a 3000g bag of resincrete is $50 on Amazon, which works out to $.016 per gram vs the 2500g mix2mold for $30 at $.012 per gram. So yes basing the price off of the smaller bag of resincrete was inaccurate but the mix2mold still ends up a little less expensive.

    • @jkakstudios
      @jkakstudios หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I did do my math wrong in the video. I was having a really off day when I did the first half of the video lol. I think I was dividing 60 by the sum of the 10 and 3 etc and then multiplying by 3 to get the 13.8g or whatever it was for the water. Brain fart lol. But yes 60g of resincrete takes 18g water and 60g mix2mold takes 20g water, and the 2 gram difference is insignificant with either eco resin and not enough to affect curing, at least not in such small batches. Thank you for pointing that out, because even in editing I didn't catch it.

    Watched all the videos and found them very informative and a good refresher course. I’ve been in the resin and resincrete hobby for a few months and beforehand I watched every beginner resin and resincrete video I can find before investing. The resin hobby can be very expensive to start and maintain. You touched on many good points for the beginner resin hobbyist. I personally use Jdiction for its ease of use (1 to 1 ratio) and the clarity of the epoxy resin. 1 item not mentioned was the use of mica powder. Might be a good video for the future. Mica powder vs pigments. Worthwhile videos to watch for anyone interested in getting into the epoxy resin hobby.
