As Billy was a very bold, strong, and aggressive character, he was too strong and played a pretty huge character in Stranger Things. So that is why they chose to kill him off since it would not go with the plot. However, I think they should have put him into a coma, obviously not from the mind flayer because there’s no way he could’ve survived that. And so, had his character wake up at the time it was right, perhaps for the last season in one of the episodes and chose to be side by side by Eleven and the others. You know?
