I have had a BF Serie 400 Mate for a few years. I mainly play Jazz and it doesn't have to pale in comparison to the other very well-known French brand also based in Mante la ville (78 Fr). It's a really "dark" instrument that requires pushing, I love it!

    From what I have read, the Buffet Expression is a pre SX-90 - any differences between them? I don’t find much info on the Expression, and most people aren’t familiar with it. What are your thoughts on the Expression? Any interesting things to know about it? I recently picked one up, love it, just don’t know much about it

    This was a great interview. I'm from Ohio, and so Cleveland is very near and dear. A few takeaways: durning the early months of Covid I was furloughed from my work for six months. I only felt lost for the first couple of weeks, and then I got into a groove with house projects, reading books, and many hours of practicing flute! I did the same as Saeran; pulling out old etude books that I hadn't touched since my college days, etc... It was great to become connected with my instrument again on such a level because I had the time to do it! I found myself again! I didn't feel isolated, or "locked up" during the whole spring and summer that I was off. I also play a Powell that I got when I was in college in the mid-1980's, and I love it just as much nearly forty years later as the day I received it. I've never played another flute that gives me the same joy as my Powell. The sound is magic; rich, dark and full. I'm kind of an equipment nerd I guess, so I'm always interested in what instruments other people play, especially with regard to piccolos. I enjoyed the back and forth between the musicians as to what instruments they play, and the instruments they have owned throughout the years. Thanks again for a great interview!!!

    In my honest opinion, the Powell flutes have the most beautiful tone when compared to even the best range of flutes from other makers. There's just something magical about the Powell sound. Powell models are to the flute world what Zeiss and Leica lenses are to photography.

    GREAT discussion! Meinl Weston makes the best tubas. I can't afford a 6450, but I have a 2141L, an Eb with 4 pistons an a rotor. It is great for melodic stuff, and when I get warmed up, I can get E0 up to Bb5 chromatically. It is 24 years old, but the lacquered brass is still perfect, and the nickel silver sleeves for the slides still shines like new. I have replaced the nylon valve guides once. I play in a community band, my church orchestra, and a brass sextet. I also have a Cerveny 601 6/4 CC for the stuff that needs a bigger, darker sound, but my MW 2141 is my favorite.

    Hi! How would you compare the baritone saxophones Buffet 400 and Keilwerth SX90? Are they very different or are they almost the same? The text that describe the Buffet 400 baritone say that it has a classic French design, does that mean it plays and feels more like a Selmer than Keilwerth?

    • @BuffetCramponUSARhapsodyLIVE
      @BuffetCramponUSARhapsodyLIVE 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Egil, these models are indeed different but both are excellent choices for any player. The BC400 is more "French" style meaning a closer bore design and key feel to other French brands, while the JKSX90 has the German design characteristics that the Keilwerth brand is know for. Thank you for your question, I hope that is helpful for you.

      @@BuffetCramponUSARhapsodyLIVE OK, thank you. I play Keilwerth tenor, soprano and alto, but have not tested a JK baritone yet - nor a Buffet. It is not easy to find a store that has JK baritones, neither here in Norway nor in London.

    • @mattvance34
      @mattvance34 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question. The 400 Series saxophones and Senzo saxophone have a more "traditional" bell flare, i.e. similar to the diameters of the brands you mentioned, while the Keilwerth saxophones (especially the altos) have a larger, more pronounced flare.

    5th. valve whole step makes a lot more sense! I had a Cerveney 686 5MR C tuba with that set up, and it eliminated 90% of 1st. valve slide pulling! From my research, The B&S model 101 was the better selling instrument, first cousin ( but more in tune) to the Alexander 163, they were stenciled extensively. Plus, they were 100% HAND MADE, the instrument virtually unchanged from before WW2, to the late '70's! BTW, PT mouthpieces ROCK!

      Hello Luis. We can't presume to know the reasons you are hesitant to accept products from China (political or otherwise) But I am sure you know that many companies make their products there now. One important distinction to look for is if that company controls the production process or not. For us, we control the production 100% for these instruments to insure they are made to the specifications and quality we require. However, if you simply prefer products that are not made in Asia or China specifically, the Julius Keilwerth brand is still produced 100% in Germany as it always has been. Thank you.
