Ford Explorer vent selection actuator for stuck vents on defrost
มุมมอง 236K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video explains the process of changing out the vent selection actuator for a 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 Ford Explorer. Part number YH-1769. If the vents on your Ford Explorer do not switch to the selected setting this video is for you. If you can't get cold or hot air there are plenty of other videos showing how to switch out the blend doors being the glove box. L...

This is my first video upload so don't be a jerk. Just trying to help people out.
Great video,I will save alot of money thanks for posting.
Probably the only issue for me with these brakes is that they are not ambidextrous like Sram. I have some demo bikes and like to swap levers over from time to time to suit the riders needs. Also having one spare lever in stock means that if one comes back broken , I don't have to have a spare L/H and R/H lever.
Definitely a finesse job I opened up the new actuator n set the gear just like the old 1 and I got all 3 bolts without that special tool hate to see what warranty pays the tech at a dealership
Noooo, this doesn't apply to a 2010 Explorer? Does anyone else know if you can get to the vent actuator this way for a 2010 as well, or if you have to go through the dash?
Thanks for the video! Was able to get to all 3 bolts with a long 1/4 in extension and an 8mm swivel socket.
First iff, sincerely thank you for this video. Fantastic instructions. If it helps anybody else, I am finishing this on a Ford Flex. I had to remove the small piece of trim approx 1.5"x4" to the left of the steering wheel (gently pries out). Also I had to remove the long trim piece on the right the same way to get to 2 7mm screws for the console trim. (I just popped a few tabs on this one and didn't actually remove it entirely). I also had to use my dremel and trim the plastic vent hose behind the instrument cluster to gain access to the 3 bolts that hold in the controller. I don't see how the repair could have been done without trimming the plastic vent pipe. This repair was a major pain- I'll be all in about 3 hours.
I’m watching this for a 2010 Lincoln mks. Probably different but the same 😂
have a 2010 explorer, hoping this will work
are the brake pads compatible with shimano pads?
They are compatible with Hope E4 for the LH4 and V4 for the LHT
@@burn31 Thank you. can I use shimano / sram 1.8mm rotor? or must use 2.3 mm rotor?
when you order your Trickstuff brakes from temu/alibabah ewen logo is stolen from another brand it is just like abibas or bolex for those who can't afford originals but good enough for tiktards and electric mopeds
What altertive olive and bart can i use for the lht?
great job
My 2015 Explorer Sport had 56K miles when I did this job, however it had unknowingly failed long before that. My Sport instrument bezel had another electrical clip which was easy to pull. After the column lower metal shroud was removed I had a plastic 'toe-kick' trim which came off, too. The actuator's bottom screw used 3"+6" extensions + flex head to get to it. I've got the forearm scratches to attest. The new actuator was monetarily plugged in prior to mounting and advanced to the same position on the old removed one. I used electrical tape to hold the screws into the socket. What a pain! Roughly 3-hours total. All in all an excellent video. Many thanks to you and for other viewers' comments.
How to buy
Thank you!
How did you adapt the 90* tool with 8mm socket?
Thank you so much for this video, mine went out yesterday and I was able to do it myself with the help of your video! It was a pain to do but well worth it, thanks again!
I just finished this! With watching your amazing video and some messing around I got this job done in just about 2 hours! The tool was definitely needed and was definitely easier from the bottom for the lower and back screw. Thank you a million times! I would pick up the tab after a long night at the bar for this guy! Thanks man!
Bruh thanks for this post mines been stuck for a few weeks gonna do this tomorrow. Respect
A pointer in aligning the gear!!! Plug the actuator back in and turn your car and ac on and should line itself up! Any pointers to help with this tedious job. I wish I saw this before doing this job! Took me 3 hours just to get it out. Saw this video and went straight to Menards and used your method and saved me a lot of time and struggle.
About to tackle this, I can get A\C through the defrost vent and slightly through the floor, never through the dash. I hope this works.
Just wanted to take a minute and say thank you for this video! You saved my family big time money. I got the tools you recommend, bought the part on RockAuto, and followed step by step. Was able to complete the job in 1.5 hrs on my 2016 XLT 3.5L because of your documentation, THANK YOU!
I would have lost my mind doing this job if it were not for this video. Kudos @Burn_1327.
I've never commented on a youtube video. Ever. But this one saved me so much time and money and provided so much comfort, that I had to leave a note. First - I was able to order the correct part quickly and got the tool specified as well because I've wanted to get one (and really didn't know they were that inexpensive.) But after replacing the incorrect blend motor (the one right below the one in this tutorial) I was able to get this one replaced in under an hour and it worked immediately. Thank you for putting the time and effort into this video! Much appreciated!
so after a year is there any problem with the brakes?
They're still going strong. No complaints to mention whatsoever.
You’re the man @burn_1327. 4 years later and you saved me $1k
impossible to get purple caliper
Thanks for this video!!
If you plug the power in and power the car before you install the actuator, the gear will move the actuator to where it last was and you shouldn’t have to break it open.
I have a 2017 Ford explorer XLT...my car is doing the same thing only blowing out the vents....is this the same procedure for the repair
Can't thank you enough for doing this video!!!! Took me about an hour to complete. This video saved me hundreds and not having my car cause it would have been in the shop. Thank you!!
Did u get the part at AutoZone ?
Great video. Changed one out this morning.
When will some of the nebula ones come back in stock ?
How would you compare them against Hope Tech 4 V4?
Lol...there is no comparison, this is a chinese aliexpress copycat quality
@@godlike0630Are lewis brakes aliexpress rebranded brakes? Just curious since I’m planning to buy one. Don’t want to make any mistakes getting one if it is not good. 😅
@@rigojohn3696no. They are high quality and better then hope. The guy is just mad he spend his money on the hope.
@@godlike0630and that means? Chinese Quality is good. U just mad. Oh let me guess ur Smartphone for 1k isnt Chinese copy?? 😂😂
Great Video Thanks lots of help
I figured out how to do it without removing all that , I had a special 2 foot long 1/4 inch rod with a curve on it twist the bottom to remove screws , took me like 25 min
You should make a video. That would be very helpful to many people.
@burn31 well I already finished the job and the ford explorer is gone but if u have a way I can send a pic of the tool I used I can show u , literally and 8 mm 1/4 socket and this tool my grandfather gave me , it's bout 2 feet long and bent at the end , and has a know on the bottom u can turn
How the bell do I get the pads in? They seem too big
Thanks! This is great. Going to be alot easier with the tips and notes. My wife's 2016 is the worst car to work on. Aske me how I know... Want to replace the front low beam headlight bulbs, have the pull 1/2 the front end off the car... Want to replace the water pump, have to pull half the engine apart...
One problem, no service parts. And I ran into this with trp, they wouldn't sell me caliper seals for a leaky caliper. I spent $700 on trp to not be able to replace a $5 seal.
Lewis just sent us service parts list. Every part in the brake system will be able to be ordered. We probably won't have every part in stock but will be available from Lewis.
Thanks!!!
Was curious after all that, could you determine WHY the actuator failed?
The internal electrical contact points wear out.
I think they have anti drop system. U remove. O ring, barb and sleeve, and push it through.
What mineral oil comes in the brakes and what should you buy if you plan on running Lewis brakes?
Lewis runs EZMTB mineral oil but I've been told by them to use Shimano once ready to bleed.
I will have to do my moms they quoted her $1800 at dealership
What really frosts my cupcake is I currently have a 2015 Explorer which has this problem. I also had another Explorer in the past which had the same malady! My guess is FORD saves 2-cents by using plastic in highly stressed actuator components which should be metal.
What part of texas are you in? I'd love to see a set in person of youre ever in the Austin area.
We ship out from El Paso and San Antonio. San Antonio is currently out of stock and will be a while before we have any in stock there. We have 14 day returns for unused products.
Anyone have a part # for a 2015 ford explorer? Thanks!
Thank you for making this video! Good job
Another big thank you for your video. Knocked this out in about 90 minutes (including children interruptions) on our 2016 Explorer Sport. To those attempting this: ensure your screws for the actuator are secured in the socket. If they drop, they go into the abyss that is the center console area. Luckily I found the one I dropped between the chassis and the carpet. Best of luck to all who attempt this!
Did u get the part at autozone
@@danielorozco5845 My local Ford dealer had one in stock.
Damn
This has to be one of the best videos I have ever found. Thank you for doing such a great job!!!!
