Let’s go camp ! I’ve met ya once ! ⛺️📸🔥🤘🏽🖤
solid setup! Plan to do something similar
Hi. Do you know where I can find the storage boxes you used behind the passenger seat to level the mattress?
I got them at Home Depot
What’s your roof rack?
It’s a Prinsu roof rack
What roof rack is this?
Warning: Tractive has totally worthless Customer Service! All via email, no over the phone Customer Service. And, they ignore your emails. Check reviews on the web. Totally worthless.
How does it feel with the infamous “bump” where it goes from seat back, to the trunk? Been thinking about doing a build honestly, but if I can get around having to make something I will.
With the exped air mattress I don’t notice it. My first time sleeping in the car I had a 3 or 4 inch memory foam mattress from Amazon and I was able to feel it then.
Great ideas. Thanks for the links!
ugh im between a crosstrek wilderness or a outback !
No hate but why are her ears lime that ik it looks like they got cropped but did they drop over time
Yes, they just dropped over time 😂. But one of them is “kinked” due to her having cauliflower ear caused by a hematoma.
So… I’m wondering when you said homemade window covers you were touching the rain guards. Did you make the rain guards? Because if you did… I need help with how you did it lol😅
I wish! lol I meant the window covers for privacy.
I went car camping and slept in my crosstrek this weekend. I followed some tips of yours. I got the exped megamat 15 and it was nice and thick but a little to wide for my liking. I had to put both seats to the very front. Still contemplating if i want to keep the 15 or exchange for the 10.. 🤔 I turned off the alarms so that when I unlock my vehicle, it doesn't make noise.
I think the 10 in regular wide would work best in this situation because for me there is no need to push up the other seat. I also think the thickness is perfect. Unless you really need the extra 2 inches of cushion, I’d exchange the 15 for the 10 and use the extra cash for other gear. I like to keep the alarm on my car just for the extra safety. I never thought about the noise it makes when unlocking, it makes me cringe now 😂
Where did u get that green blanket?
It’s the kelty biggie blanket and I got it from Amazon
Just found ya and subscribed ◡̈ I have a subie forester that I do the same with !
Thank you for the video. I like your setup. If you would be so kind as to share sure the name of your roof rack please and your car Google Tina that you carry on top. Also. I've been thinking about getting a rooftop cargo box but I think I like your Sarah better because I can leave the rack up there and just take the box down much easier.
Thank you for watching! It’s a Prinsu roof rack and my car is a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Premium. The box I use on top is a riffle case by Plano. I was thinking about doing a cargo box too, but I like how low profile the riffle case is.
Loved seeing your set up! I'm working on one to leave up all summer for quick bug outs on a Friday. I've got an Outback. FYI, there are some great sleeping bags out there that aren't of the noisy, slickery material you don't like. I have one that is actually a two person bag and it's flannel and soft cotton. I'm in WY and CO for camping so even in the summer the nights can get pretty darned cold. Blankets will never keep me as warm as my bag. Love the color of your Fozzy!
I’ll have to look into those sleeping bags, thank you!
Hello! What did you use to make those homemade window shades/covers! Everywhere I look for custom made ones are pricey
I got a 2 rolls of reflective insulation from Home Depot and duct tape for the edges! I spent like $25 on it!
@@outdoorsunknown thank you so much for answering back! Definitely going to get some and try it, you are a life saver!!!
Do make a template so you don't have mistakes! ❤
Thanks for sharing. I am heading out first time in my life. I have never camped before. Because I have the same car as you, by which door are you getting in by when it’s time to call it a night
How exciting!! Hope you have a fun and safe trip. I like to get in and out from the driver door and I just crawl into/ from the back. I used to get in and out from the rear passenger (where my bed is located) but i found going in/out from the driver is a lot easier for me.
It looked like the Exped Mega mat is in a fitted sheet? Where how, where do I get one please??
It’s a twin size fitted sheet that I got from target, any twin size fitted sheet should work for this
@@outdoorsunknown THANK YOU so very much!!
Excellent video thank you for your great ideas!!
Thank you for posting this, subscribed!! Please post more vids of your car camping gear and hiking gear/clothes recommendations!!
Thank you ❤️
My wife and I camp in the back of our Crosstrek using a Luno mattress. I've thought about a rooftop tent, and I curious with you having camped both ways, which do you prefer, the back of the car or the rooftop tent?
I personally prefer the back of my car. I feel more secure and since I camp with my dog it’s so much easier. Having to set up the ladder with her ramp so she can get up and into the tent was such a hassle. If you camp in the back of your car, you can easily drive your car with making minor or no adjustments to your set up. With the roof top tent you have to completely break it down if you need to drive your car and then reset it once you’re back. I found this annoying when I was staying at a site for multiple days and wanted to explore the area.
howd u mount that plano case?
trailtacoma.com/2020/01/31/plano-case-install-tacoma-prinsu-rack/ This is the article I used. You essentially drill 4 holes at the bottom of the box and use carriage bolts and washers to secure it. This is what I used and they were all stainless steel to prevent rust: 4 - 1 x 1/4 in carriage bolts 8 - 1/4 in washer 4 - 1/4 nylon lock nut Silicone to seal/ “water proof”
@@outdoorsunknown thank you, i wanted a roofbox at first. but i think this is more practical for me since i dont have much stuff
Cool Video!!!
Hey great video! I’m a crosstrek owner as well! How did you mount the rifle case to the rack??

Sucks to bring an animal into this lifestyle
I have $200 rei gift card and want to set up my cross trek like urs. My concern is, do you sleep on your side? I want to get the exped sleeping pad but i want to get the right size. The size exped you have looks perfect for the crosstrek, but can you side sleep on it without running out of space?
I am a side sleeper and for me the exped is perfect, and there is still plenty of headroom! I hope this helps. Good luck with your Crosstrek setup!
@@outdoorsunknown i ended up getting the megamat 15 but they only have x-wide so 5 inches wider. In order to use it in the back i need to put both seats up. I'm considering exchanging to the exact one u have hmm
PYP lets go.
How much does your dog weigh? I just bought a Crosstrek and my lab is 100 lbs. I’m wondering how comfortable it will be car camping sleeping.
She weighs about 75lbs. If it’s just you and your dog, I think it will be plenty comfortable.
Hello! I have enjoyed your past two videos. You give great info and have a nice calm mannerism which makes it feel easy to listen and learn from you. I was wondering if you could please tell me the names of your journal tools/notebook cover brands. I couldn’t quite catch the details and I don’t believe it is linked in your LinkTree information. I have been looking for a camping proof notebook around that size that could also fit pens and such, and yours seems to fit that well. Thank you for your help!
Thank you for the comment! I did forget to link those. I have linked them for you under “stationary”. The Journal cover is by Lochby and the notebook I use inside is a Field Notes book. Happy camping!
Looks super fun ! I'm inspired to get out more now
Looks so beautiful! On my list… long list but going to happen!
I have a long list too 😂
Thank you!
I keep the driver side passenger seat (40 of the 60/40 split) free of anything and unfolded. It is where i get in and out of bed, do stuff more freely. I know most if not all uses it for more storage space. I do roadtrips by myself most times. In the times i have a friend with me i used that space for storage and also to make room for two people sleeping area.
That’s smart! If I didn’t have my dog I would totally do that!
Hey 👋🏽 New sub here ❤. Great video
how do you attach the back relfectix, mine keep faling apart, the back part
Mine fall off too, so what I do is roll the window down a little, then slip the top portion of the reflectix out, then I roll the window up so it pinches the the reflectix and keeps it in place. It takes some trial in error but this is the best solution I’ve found. I hope it makes sense.
I have a dog that is about as big as yours and im thinking about getting a rooftop tent but how in the world do you get her up there with you???? Its me, my husband, my 90 pound dog and our 15 pound dog. Just worried about getting the dogs in there! I see you have a ramp you might use? Did you make it? Is it still hard?
Hi! Sorry for the late reply but just in case you’re still wondering, yes the ramp I made to attach to the ladder and I just trained my dog to go up it by using treats. I got lucky because it didn’t take long for her to get it and not be scared. Since the ramp I made was too bulky I upgraded to the “desert armor Doggo RTT ramp” which is really light weight and I used the same process of using treats to lure her in. I’ve seen some people use a tarp and bungee cords to make a DIY ramp. I know some people just lift their dogs up but with heavier dogs like ours it’s impossible. But the ramps really make it a breeze.
Is there a way I could see the bed and platform
Hi! I longer have the car and scrapped the platform but here is the video I used to get the dimensions. I would say though that I’d recommend you use a much thicker plywood than he did, at the very least 1/2inch thick. th-cam.com/users/shorts6EUj-W7oErE?feature=shared
@@outdoorsunknown Thank you and just wondering why did you switch?
@@MrLuffy9131 at the time I wasn’t looking or needing a new car, but I saw a Subaru crosstrek with a few upgrades and a rooftop tent included and I had to jump on it. If it wasn’t for that, I’d still be rocking my civic.
Been trying to figure out how to do this in my subie, good to know it can work.
That was really good. Thanks for sharing your setup.
You idiots don't need to sleep in a car
I just bought a 2024 crosstrk. This is valuable information. Thank you for posting. I will be using your affiliated inks.
I hope you have many adventures in your new crosstrek. I’m really loving the look of the redesign!
Bro are you at kern river
Yes! Good eye
nice plasma pearl
Great to see some brown folks on camping TH-cam! Keep at it!
I'm 6'3 with this vehicle work for me
I don’t think you’d be able to fully extend your legs unfortunately. But I’ve seen videos of tall people still making it work in a crosstrek.
@@outdoorsunknown I see that's unfortunate I just like the look of the car though definitely will looks for something a little bit longer That's the curse for my height lol
I'm 6'2" and my outback works, I just use a cut sheet of plywood that i hang from passenger seat to extend
@@sethneubert2384 ok That's cool yeah just gathering data to see what vehicles best suited for my van life journey
Nice and helpful video. I did something similar in my Crosstrek for camping, but I use a 28 qt ice chest to bridge the gap between the seats. You’ve given me some good ideas, especially the Plano case on the roof. Thanks for posting.
Great show and helpful! I have the exact same Trek in the yellow plasma and Limited trim lol. Definitely subscribing. Thank you! One suggestion: please don't state everything as a question. Examples (not exact): "The Dometic jug is very convenient?" "My dog loves this dog bed?" "Air mattresses keep you from feeling the unlevel floor?" etc. It's kind of an affected manner of speech and can make you appear insecure. Women do it a lot more than men.
That’s awesome, PYP is such a weird color but I love it! Yes I noticed I do that a lot when speaking when I was editing, it drove me insane. Definitely something I’m trying to work at, I appreciate the feedback :)
Nice setup!
Love your easy setup. Would love to see more videos from you!
More to come!
