Oh, how I liked this French movie! I watched it again! I watched the information about the movie! I think the second part may well be!!! since work on the film has been underway since 2020!!! Honestly I was waiting for an adaptation with Albert x Haydee as end couple. I saw many, maaany solutions in alternative to Haydee and Edmond together or more simply, to put a main romantic couple at the center of the final conflict: Haydee x Franz (Gerard Depardieu version), Valentine x Albert (the deutsch musical, and I think another one...), Albert x Eugenie (Gankutsuou)... I don't remember well, but I think I even saw Maximillien x Haydee and Haydee x Ali somewhere. I need to check. I wonder why they take so long for making an adaptation (movie or serie) with Albert and Haydee together, since such a route that, from a narrative prospective of making the message of getting over the lust for revenge is extremely powerful. Loved the movie but this change was really stupid.
It really was stupid! They betrayed the original characters. Haydee only loved the count and no one else.

@madapigi1 the movie makes a really poor point of that when the actor playing Edmond is just 10 years older than the actress playing Haydee. It's also a fictional film, they could've easily aged her up from her original book counterpart. This version of her ends up being the same age, but really a completely different character

@@madapigi1 I don't hate them, but the film doesn't do enough with their story to make me care for them when they barely have enough screentime after Albert finds out Haydee was 'seducing' him under a plot for revenge. I know what the film was *trying* to do from the book (swap Maximilien and Valentine with them in order to have the forbidden love story), but I don't think it did a good enough job. And I didn't really like how the film had both Edmond and Andrea get the chance to confront the men who betrayed them, but Haydee could only be given the chance to seduce the son of the man who killed her father when her book counterpart testified against Fernand in court. It's a pretty regressive interpretation for a film that's trying to be more modern than the book. They could've easily kept her and Albert and still had her testify against Fernand.

the answer is a spoiler, but if you still wanna know: joseph is a bully and couldn't help michèle defending herself and her classmates from his behavior, so he pranked michèle when she entered into the classroom with a bucket of water (a scene you can see in the video). she then goes to the infirmary to change, and jean-pierre, michèle's big brother, sees her from the room next door and gets upset at the idea of someone mocking his sister (but mostly the honor of his family, as he would say later to their parents). as the teacher leaves her class unsupervised, he enters and fights with joseph, punching him in the eye while he was wearing glasses. you can easily guess what happened next.
