Got the hot goss on them closing, and hopefully getting bought by our old first employee! And some other secrets about another Portland staple shop that just closed under shady circumstances.

      @@ekims_echoes yes! I find them pretty hard, but I bet I just need to do more. I have the Anvil ISO jigs. So I can and will add ISO tabs. I haven't figured out anybody the other new standards for disk mounts yet but probably will eventually. So far no one's ever asked for anything but ISO tabs. They sure seem a lot more versatile than post or flat mount. I tend to not chaise trends and see what ends up work best and sticking around. That being said rear disk tabs seem to work pretty well for lots of older frames, but front disk brakes added to forks often bend the fork or crack the blade! So I tend to shy away from that and talk people into a new fork made for disk brakes.

    lockpicking is really fun! when I started, I found it was best to just amass a huge collection of locks and see how many I could pick. each lock has its own technique and it's really tough to know what to do as a new person just by looking at the lock. but, if you have the time and patience to practice and play around, you can have some fun. raking is usually the first method to try since it's fast and easy and opens a surprising number of locks. also - you might want to look for a local locksport group. I bet Portland has an active community, and they tend to be great resources.

    • @starmichaelbuilds
      @starmichaelbuilds หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@andrew_yeah amazing! What's raking? Is it the squiggly pick you just run back and forth? Lol, I didn't get one of those. Trust the hockey stick looking ones. I'll try it out this week. Not today, because it's supposed to be in the 90's again, lol.

    • @andrew_yeah
      @andrew_yeah หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@starmichaelbuilds yeah, those are rakes. there are some different shapes (some are more effective on certain locks), but they work similarly - you apply a little rotational pressure while you slide it back and forth against the top of the keyway. it'll bounce the pins up, and since you are rotating the cylinder, as they bounce out they tend to catch and stick in the up position. on cheap sloppy locks you can just rake back and forth and the whole thing unlocks in a couple seconds.

    regarding shimano cable pull - 10sp road kept the same old cable pull as 7/8/9. 10sp mountain is dynasys, and is the same cable pull as all the other newer shimano mountain stuff - 10/11/12, same cable pull. road went to its own thing for 11 and up (there's also a later 10sp tiagra group on this cable pull, beware). AFAIK there are no other cable pull ratios from shimano, except maybe cues? Still a little early to be sure on that one.

      @@andrew_yeah that what I thought, sort of. I know spacing is different as mtb 11 cassette fits road 8-9-10 cassette bodies. So that's good to know. I have a friend that has ten road bar ends with "10" old probably the same as 9 speed deore rear derailleur. I feel like it should work but he's having issues. It's not, I think, a dynasys derailleur or cassette... Maybe. We'll find out soon!

    • @andrew_yeah
      @andrew_yeah หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@starmichaelbuilds ah, those 11sp mtb cassettes fit because of a sneaky trick, not that they're spaced tighter than their road cousins! since they have big old pie plate cogs, and the first 3 or 4 are on a spider, that first cog is pushed over towards the spokes, past the base of the cassette. so the measured width across all the cogs is actually longer than the freehub body. 11sp road cassettes are spaced the same, but with the smaller-diameter cogs, they would have run into the spokes and so had to make the freehub body longer and push the flange toward the center. If you look at the back of any 11sp mountain cassette ("mountain" refers to anything with a biggest cog above 34T), and compare it to an 11sp roadie, you should be able to see the difference.
