Arduino based model railway speedometer
Big shout out to Joe G for his video which inspired me to build this. I have slightly modified the Arduino sketch including using 1:76 scale (OO gauge) instead of 1:87 (HO gauge). I have also used a 2 row, 16 character LCD display instead of a 4 row 20 character one.
Here's the link to Joe's video -

Benefits of a prototyping setup

Having a setup like this has enabled me to troubleshoot design issues, try different ideas and come up with final versions which work perfectly for what I need. If you are new to modelling or creating I recommend you think about having something like this, it has certainly worked for me. Thanks for watching!

Something a little different and quirky.....
มุมมอง 477 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's been ages since I did anything with an Arduino so I wanted to see what I could do with a couple of mini servos and some "Jumping Jack" Christmas tree ornaments. Basically, the two "soldiers" jump around erratically but occasionally they will each do some "star jumps" (of a sort!). After completing the star jumps there is a pause and then they start again. The Arduino is powered by a 9 volt...

This video shows how the main loop and sidings can operate independently on the "Proof of Concept" model railway layout. Remember, this is a DC layout, not DCC so the isolating points play a crucial role in making sure the voltage and current from the two controllers do not feed into each other. You will notice the funicular railway and two shuttle lines operating at various intervals along wit...

    It's amazing that the car doesn't lose track at such high speed in the corners. For example, at the Carrera racetrack, you have to drive slowly into the curves, otherwise the car will fly out and roll over.

    I have been looking at your moving vehicles video and wanted to ask where you got your plastic chain and gears from but comments have been turned off. I am trying to do something similar but am failing badly. I am using computer printer chai which is not ideal. Please help.

      I used this motor, the 25rpm version on the basis I would not be running at the full 12v so it would be slower. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263753103864?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=5UnrKn1lQoS&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=3Ji-97JVSRy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=WHATS_APP

    Do scalextric make single tra k ?

    • @Mokkers_stuff
      @Mokkers_stuff ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ray. No this was old Scalextric track, the type with circular connectors, that I cut in half. I very carefully used a Stanley knife to cut as close to the middle seam of plastic on each section of track. This old style track is reasonably flexible so it was easy to cut through. I haven't tried cutting the new style Scalextric track but it is a more brittle plastic which might be prone to cracking if not cut completely through. If you are thinking of doing this yourself please be very careful! When I first started cutting track I had a few near misses where the blade skipped away from the centre line. Keep one hand well out the way while cutting with the other. I eventually worked out the best way was to keep gently scoring down the middle to cut through the plastic. Stanley knives, as you may know, are very very sharp! I held each piece of track with one hand at the top on a flat piece of scrap wood and used the knife to score downwards slowly away from my hand. Slow and gentle is the key!

    Nice and simple to start with then you won’t more track and have bigger idea’s 👍

      Thanks for your comment. I have lots and lots of track just nowhere to set it all up easily. That's why I decided to see what I could do with a manageable sized board. When not in use it stands on its end in the garage and can be set up quickly. The plan is to hopefully exhibit it next year at one of the many model railway shows that take place around Scotland.
