Too bad the record sound is not good .Salvation army bands and their soloists always very good and these two euphonium players and the band were no exceptions. The statement with regard to euphs and baritones I don't believe is correct. The length of 3 valve Tubing is the same on both instruments : the difference is in the Baritones with tubing (diameter} Also I don't think Baritones ever have 4 valves unless someone makes one for a special purpose,but why would they? Got to see Clarence White play this live at Toronto Temple in the late 80's whe he was with the Canadian Staff Band....Awesome back then too!!!

I have seen this piece play twice on video and this is number three...two t-bones and once Euphonium...I enjoyed all of the times I have heard this piece. The fact you have to understand that the last variation is being played triple tongue and he kept it in control. Great piece and great job!

Baritones have 3, Euphs 3 or 4 valves... yes, of course, very true, except for those Baritones with FOUR valves! ;-)

The high F (12th partial 1st position) is not in the original score and was instead added by the likes of Christian Lindberg and Joe Alessi because they felt like it. If he has an older version of the score, then he didn't miss it, it's not written for him. I do agree that the clarity is sometimes lacking.

we played this very piece at the Salvation Army Ga Music Conservatory at Camp Grandview in 1990. Barry Gott was not only the conductor, but played a full trap set during the final concert a the end of the summer. i played the E flat Soprano coronet. we played this plus Praise if anyone of you have ever heard that as well as alot of Jim Curnow's stuff with his daughter Amy playing the coronet as well. Amy is now the lead singer of an alternate funk/fusion band now. you can find her on myspace.

must of done a slightly different arrangement to us... wierd to have 3 trombones in a brass band... it is an american brass band though..

This duet was written by the British Salvation Army composer Norman Bearcroft, I believe during his stead as the Canadian Staff Band master - in all likelihood it was written for Curtis Metcalf and Major Bill Brown. And this is a GREAT duet! The best recording that exists is the London Citadel Band accompanying Robert and Nick Childs on "The Song of the Brother" CD (I believe which is now sold out) back in 1994.
