We are an independent business making yarns and fibre tops in our small scale, worsted spinning mill in North Devon (one of only a handful still operating in the UK). We source most of our fibre locally, championing British wool at every opportunity.
Using predominantly vintage machinery that we have lovingly restored, we create wonderful artisan goods using a hands-on approach to production. All our yarn and tops ranges are designed, blended and spun by the folk at our mill, inspired by the natural world around us or our interests in art, music and nostalgia.

Great to see you Sonja! You look fantastic. And so do the new Exmoor Sock colors!
Thanks m' dears, am doing lots of yoga these days so thats certainly helping! x
It so lovely to see you back again Sonja, the team were all amazing while you have been off. I love the colourwork socks, I have not yet tried socks for colourwork, I am a bit nervous that they'll be too tight. Have fun at Unravel festival. 😊
hehhee, i now exactly what you mean. I'm nervous to try too, but they look brilliant. x
Welcome back Sonia. You look great. And so do the wonderful new sock colors.
Thanks! Certainly feels great to be back again ;-)
Thank you ladies for your entertainment! Exmoor sock became my instant new favorite when I purchased it from the Woolly Thistle online in the US-I live in NH! Mizzle is and always will be my very first choice because it smells so sheepy! Exmoor is so much warmer to wear than all the other superwash yarns…and I love that this line comes in 50 gram balls, would love to score a shade card. Will definitely be checking out the new colors from Harrisville Designs, my local yarn shop!🫶🥰👍🏻🧶🧶
ooheee! how exciting to have HD as your local yarn shop! I'd love to visit one day, the machines look amazing and we love a bit of woollen spun yarn here! x
So fantastic to see Sonja back looking so fabulous.
hehehe, thanks! Certainly feels good to be back ;-)
So nice to see everyone on the Vlog. But ladies what are you all wearing?? Thanks for the in depth on the exmoor sock yarn.
oops, sorry we forgot to mention! Helena is wearing Belledonne by Along avec Anna (knitted in KBN DK), Sonja is wearing Smookie by Kate Davies Designs (in Exmoor Sock and with a different stitch pattern) and naughty Donna is wearing a shop bought knit, hehehe.
Welcome back Sonja! I've missed seeing you. Sending you long life and health.
thanks, tis a treat to be back again ;-)
So happy to see Sonja back!❤
great to be back!
Lovely to see Sonja back. Your socks wool and shades look wonderful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Welcome back Sonja! Your hair is darling!! I love Exmoor sock and am knitting some plain 3x1 ribbed one right now in Peggles.♥
thanks for the warm welcome back! Peggles is such a great colour, bright red socks just add such a dash of fun to any outfit! x
Exmoor sock is the best sock yarn ever !! Although I don’t think your new blend, though softer, is quite as hard wearing as the original blend you did. The small bits left over are great for darning. My mother in law never gave anyone socks without including the left over yarn for darning.
great tip by your MIL. and thanks for the feedback on the Drizzle, we'll take a look and maybe up the twist ;-)
It is lovely to see you back Sonja! But some of us want to know what lovely jumper you were wearing...it truly looked stunning on you. Donna's jumper too would be great or just all three maybe...looking forward to trying your sock yarn that just arrived.
Thanks for the warm welcome back and happy sock knitting! oops, sorry we forgot to mention! Helena is wearing Belledonne by Along avec Anna (knitted in KBN DK), Sonja is wearing Smookie by Kate Davies Designs (in Exmoor Sock and with a different stitch pattern) and naughty Donna is wearing a shop bought knit, hehehe.
Welcome back, Sonja! I missed seeing you and that lovely red jumper. I want to make one just like it in one of the Appledore DK yarns.
Thanks! I based my jumper on Smookie by Kate Davies and then just changed the cable pattern. its such a great wearable shape ;-)
Lovely to see Sonja back and looking so well. Thank you all for sharing the new exmoor sock shades and the sock samples. ❤️
Thank you! 😊
What is the name of the jumper that Sonja is wearing please
oops, sorry we forgot to mention! Sonja is wearing Smookie by Kate Davies (in Exmoor Sock). she just changed the pattern a little to have cables along the side and no texture on the front
Welcome back Sonja!!! Pretty new colors. The new shade cards are great. I like all 3 tops. Mosaic is fun but I've never done it in a sock yet. I hardly ever do an afterthought either but it does work nicely on patterned socks. Love the color choices on the weekend shorty. Picot edge socks are cute. Mismatch look like fun. I NEED to make the red panda ones.
thanks, feels great to be back ;-) And yes, those Red Panda socks are just glorious aren't they? Such classy colourwork!
Welcome back Sonia you look great with your fab hair cut. Also like the new green.
thanks, feels smashing to be back ;-)
Lovely colors, great socks, the color blocked is superb! Great to see you, Sonja 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! 😊
Good to see Sonja back again, and with a cute new haircut. What are the lovely sweaters you're all wearing? I would knit all three!
Thanks, tis a treat to be back!
@@JohnArbonTextile Tsk tsk, Donna! But I suppose a person can't knit all the sweaters!
@@bburke6650 🤣
Love the new colours x Wonderful to see Sonja back - you look fabulous honey
thats so lovely to hear, thanks x
It's good to see Sonja back. Your hair is so cute! :)
Thank you!! 😊
Weld grows near railway lines! It’s limestone chippings that it likes , which is what railways are laid on. And it’s well drained as you said .Often there are multiuse paths beside old rail tracks. I’ve also found tansy growing in these areas, another good dye plant. Thanks for your uplifting and informative talk!
so pleased you enjoyed it! x
Wow is this helpful, informative. Just an all around delight. Thank you so much for sharing and making this available. 🥰
You are so welcome! Fay is a crochet whizz ;-)
Thanks for sharing this informative video! I discovered JAT through The Woolly Thistle online shop in the US and as a lifelong knitter I really enjoy knitting with British wool. Fantastic quality. At the same time, I now have a deeper appreciation of the fiber quality from the wonderful sheep we have here. My favorite fiber festivals here is Maryland Sheep and Wool, as well as the big one, the New York Sheep and Wool Festival.
yay, so chuffed to hear you enjoyed watching this. We've got a fair few things on Breed Specific wool if you have a rummage about. I'd love to go to a US fibre festival one day, sounds like they're just on a wholenother level! x
@ Please do, especially Rhinebeck! Your yarns will be wonderfully appreciated :)!
My Midwinter special arrived here in North Carolina, US and “the Longest Night” is lovely! I can’t wait to make a pair of socks. The tops colors look great. Happy New Year!
sounds glorious! Happy sock knitting x
Cinthia is so creative with awesome taste
Right?! her work is just incredible isn't it?
Is fingering yarn American 🇺🇸, it just isn’t a good word in UK 🇬🇧 😂
hehehe! yeah its got quite a different connotation to non-knitters, doesn't it? Is the US equivalent of 4ply
Hello from North Carolina USA! I feel like I’m late to the party but I love your yarns. Hope to visit one day at a MOW
Hello!! and how lovely to hear you've just discovered us, welcome. We'd love to host you at an Open Weekend one day. We do also always make sure to have a virtual event too, for those who aren't able to travel all this way. x
Love mine. You are right about quality, The best I've done this year. I'll lend it to my trusted friends, but I want to keep this one forever.
yay! so chuffed to hear you reckon its a keeper. ;-)
Absolutely fascinating and some excellent ideas. Only problem was with the camera work which wasn’t always clear enough.
Thanks for your feedback. It is always a little tricky running these things live - we are by no means tech experts, but we do our best! ;-)
Love this video! Greatly inspiring, must get my spindle out & start learning again! Am definitely going to find out more about weaving from my weed filled garden; just filled a skip with brambles & nettles, watch out new growth! I can make you into something useful & look lovingly at you! (as opposed to the unprintable words presently around when looking out the window🤣)
hehehe! love that!
Thanks to Kerry and to JAT for this very informative video, & yes, I’d love to see future video with Kerry on dyeing with plants.
Will do!!
Just another great session- lots of really helpful tips! Thank-you! 😊
so chuffed to hear you enjoyed it!
I crochet in exactly the same way and I'm fed up of people telling me I'm doing it wrong! The tips are really helpful, thank you; I seem to automatically be doing a lot of them anyway. I must master that turning stitch though, that looks like a proper game changer!!!
Glad it was helpful! xx
Great tips!
Glad you like them!
I am late to the party but I love this yarn! And the Spotify playlist :)
heheh, so chuffed you enjoyed the tunes! And welcome - lovely to hear you've just found us xx
Lovely to see your collection of “all by hand” garments and to learn more about the origins of your fiber sensibilities. harpingJanet
chuffed you enjoyed it!
Interesting to see the range of fibres you have worked with and what you have produced with them. Love your passion Marina.
Her work is amazing, itsn't it?
Very exciting! Thanks. May I ask the pattern names for the lovely cardigans you are wearing?
Helena is wearing the Ginny Cardigan by Sosuknits in Yarnadelic Worsted, and Donna is wearing Bees Knees by Thea Colman in Appledore Aran.
Love what Marina does!
Her work is amazing, itsn't it?
Great podcast thank you, would love to know what patterns you are wearing please 😊
Hi Kay, thanks for watching! Helena is wearing the Ginny Cardigan by Sosuknits in Yarnadelic Worsted, and Donna is wearing Bees Knees by Thea Colman in Appledore Aran.

Always so lovely to get a new Vlog and see you all! It’s a pity there won’t be another until new year but thank you for posting recordings from the Open Mill Weekend! Something to look forward to for sure! Happy rest of the year and happy New Year! Maybe you can give an update on Sonja next time, if she is ok with that. Best wishes!
We'll try and get Sonja into the next one if we can! She's doing much better now, thanks for asking.
@ Yay!!
Love your cardigan helena.. what's the pattern please?
Helena is wearing the Ginny Cardigan by Sosuknits in Yarnadelic Worsted in Ordinary Joe, Space Talk, Of My Hands and Woman in Blue.
What sweaters are you all wearing? I'd love to know! Thanks for a lovely video to watch as I giftknit my way into the darkest days!

Thank you wow be well till January Love the blankets and the lovely sweaters you’re wearing
Thanks! The blankets are sooo warm and lovely! Helena is wearing the Ginny Cardigan by Sosuknits in Yarnadelic Worsted, and Donna is wearing Bees Knees by Thea Colman in Appledore Aran.
This new episode dropped as I am sitting here knitting the Travelers Cowl, a kerchief style cowl by Makenzie Alvarez. I am using your Yarnadelic Sport limited edition "Dark Star" designed by Aleks Byrd. What a beautiful yarn, especially in the sunshine when the brown yarn reveals all the blended colors shining through. This is a stockinette pattern with a large cable running up the side, so will hopefully show off the yarn composition as well as the cable pattern. It's going to be so light and airy in this Yarnadelic yarn. Happy Holidays to you all.
Happy Holidays! We really love the Dark Star, it's just the best brown isn't it? We look forward to seeing your finished cowl!
I just ordered my blue Appledore blanket! I’m so excited but I should have waited until the end of the vlog as I also want some of that gorgeous Fallin’ Leaf 🍁
We hope you love your blanket! And hopfully you'll still manage to snag some Fallen Leaf 🙂
@@JohnArbonTextile I finally opened my Blanket after hiding it under the Christmas tree…All I can say is OMG. it is the most beautiful blanket, a heavy sturdy weight, and simply …..perfect. (Not to mention the beautiful Appledore colorways) I’m so glad I snatched one of these beauties up!
Fantastic 💖 everything looks great
Thanks! We love them and hope you will too!
