This pattern is perplexing me. I've attempted it twice, and twice now while working on round 6 to make the square border, I ended up with what looks like an extra row, and instead of being a square it's more like a pentagon shape.

what do you suggest we do for if we only do 6 rounds instead of the 8 rounds? I know you said once the joining starts to go from the 17th stitch do we still do the same numbered stitch or not really since theres less stitches since I stopped at round 6 ?

I'm so frustrated. I've attempted this twice, and when I get to the part after the tips of the sun rays where you are building the square border around it and repeat it twice, no matter what I do it ends up not going square. It gets uneven in size. Can you explain what I might be doing wrong?

Definitely didn’t need to cut the yarn after row 3, just carry it under the other color so at the end no tails to weave in

for people wanting a larger version, I imagine you could make a version using treble crochets instead of doubles or use thicker yarn. But I made mine a couple rounds bigger after the round of 36 by doing 1 round of chain 2 (double, double, increase, repeat) and 1 round of chain 2 (double, double, double, increase, repeat) for about 60 chains total (forgot to count lol). I also had to alter the ears to make them a bit bigger so I did chain 1, single, single, single, double, double, skip, 7x trebles, skip, double, double and then singles all the way around to end off the last 10 stitches with the other ear.
