Repair Tape and Recycled Plastics Earrings
Each month I can, I like to create a how-to video to give you some ideas on to be more creativity. I think creative exercises really good for our health and wellbeing, if done in a relaxed low stress way, enjoying the process rather than being too perfectionist about the final product. But I di think what I've created to show you this month is really cool!
I've been wrapping Christmas presents, so this month's video shows you how to pull images from wrapping paper and add them to recycled plastic cartons, to make earrings!
The video is about ten minutes long as this is a fairly straightforward project, but lots of fun!
To make my earrings, I used:
- some glossy surfaced wrapping paper,
- some clear uncoloured repair tape for car repairs (which is wider than standard present wrapping tape, like Sellotape, but you could use Sellotape instead)
- a white plastic milk carton/bottle, well washed,
- four jump rings and a pair of earring findings per pair of earrings,
- a pair of scissors,
- an awl (as used in woodwork, and
- a pair of jewellery-making pliers.
Will you be giving some of your earrings to friends, or keeping them for yourself...?

Every month I can, I like to create a how-to video to encourage others to be more creativity. I think expressing ourselves through art and crafts is really good for our health and wellbeing, if we can do it in a relaxed way, confident that this is something we can do. As we're approaching Christmas, this month's video shows you how to print some images you might like to use to make Christmas ca...
Demystifying Art: Roman Portraiture: Realism and PR

Demystifying Art: Roman Portraiture: Realism and PR In September 2024, I got the opportunity to visit the Capitoline Museum in Rome and see again the sculpted portrait of the Emperor Commodus (161-192 AD/CE), son of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121-180 AD/CE). The father (Marcus Aurelius) is still famous today for his contribution to stoic philosophy. One of his representative sayings was: "You...
Demystifying Art: Finding Permission to Create

Demystifying Art: Finding Permission To Create: This month I wanted to talk about the issues artists have with not feeling "allowed" to create, and how I've got over that for myself. I think it's an important topic, as psychological blocks prevent all kinds of people from doing all sorts of things that would benefit their lives and those of others. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful my parents pu...

Every month I can, I like to film a how-to video to encourage other people's creativity. This month I decided to have another go at filming one showing how anyone can make art! (To see my last video on this topic, please go to: th-cam.com/video/FiAmFAbL6QM/w-d-xo.html) In this month's video, I created two images in different colourways and patterns, both using cups and small glasses to draw rou...
Demystifying Art: Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art

Demystifying Art: Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art: One, True, Good and Beautiful You may think that Aesthetics is all about make-up artists and beauty therapies, with many businesses working in this arena using the word in their names. But its earlier usage was all about what people find beautiful and ugly, and why, with the philosophy of art being a subset of this academic subject. I firs...
Macramé Dragonfly Earrings
มุมมอง 255 หลายเดือนก่อน
Every month, if I'm able, I film a how-to video to encourage other people's creativity. For about a year I've wanted to share with you how to make some dinky little macramé dragonflies from embroidery thread and make them into earrings, and here it is, just in the season when the dragonflies are out and about! I took a couple of the pairs of dragonflies into my Welsh language summer school in B...
Demystifying Art: Why do prints fade to blue?
มุมมอง 245 หลายเดือนก่อน
Demystifying Art: Why do prints fade to blue? If left in direct sunlight, some prints and artworks fade, so eventually the only colours showing are pale blues. But why…? Dyes and pigments work by absorbing certain wavelengths of light and reflecting or transmitting the rest. Light carries photons and these “excite” or pass energy to the molecules in dyes and pigments, heating them. This energy ...

Each month, if I can, I film a how-to video to encourage other people's creativity. This month I decided to have a go at filming one showing how anyone can make art! I created two images in different colourways and patterns, both using the "chase the penny" method and pattern doodling, which my friend and fellow artist Louise Barson introduced me to. Her blog on her creative session can can be ...
Sketching a Bee and Flowers in Loose Watercolours & Pens
มุมมอง 17 หลายเดือนก่อน
Each month, if I can, I film a how-to video to encourage other people's creativity. This month I decided to have a go at filming one about sketching a bee and flowers in a quick and loose style! I created two little pictures, one of a bee and bluebells, another with foxgloves. I did the two so I could film the video in one take, as I needed the watercolour paint to dry before I added my pen mar...
Demystifying Art: Loose v Tight
มุมมอง 207 หลายเดือนก่อน
Demystifying Art: Loose v Tight: Loose and tight are terms used to describe an artist's style. Loose has been seen as synonymous with sketching and using intuition and instilling emotion into art, and tight with taking time, using intellect and technical ability, and including lots of detail in a piece. But both styles require structure to create good works. Both terms can be problematic. If so...
