GIANT Sound Panels for my Workshop!
มุมมอง 6912 ปีที่แล้ว
My completely empty workshop was an echo chamber, these absorb a lot of that. Its even better with actual stuff in it, but could still be improved.
Oh, I definitely noticed that in the original video! And you are borrowing from a friend?!? 1. That's a great friend to let you borrow such a tool. 2. You're friends are way more interesting than most if not all of mine to even have access to one of those, let alone have access that they can lend you it
Don't steal my idea! But even if you do, I'd be impressed! 😂 That's the mark of a great project or idea. Something so audacious and difficult that no one but yourself has the commitment to see completed! You can tell others, but even if they think it's a great idea, probably don't have the skills (or time/willingness to get) or the grit to complete But if there is another out there, you covered yourself by having a record of you saying it! And I really hope you (or if it must be) someone else brings that idea into the world. As it is definitely one I want to live in! (Also, just great video going more in depth!)
being kept updated on where stuff is at is always appreciated. cool shelves, i like that as a compact working/storage hybrid. i was thinking that multi-platform streaming is allowed again by twitch? not certain, but worth looking into, then you could simply stream to both at once.
Oh I forgot about that! I should try it sometime.
Do you have a link or name of the units you used for the desks?
The shelves? The long wood tops that I cut are custom I found on marketplace, the middle one is from uline “replacement work top” 72x30” I think. The shelves themselves are made by the homedepot brand Husky, and are called HD shelves? It’s made from one 77” one and one of the longer/taller 92” I think.
you should fill the gaps in those not-perlins with some led strips or something. make some diffuser panels and mount them flush with the face of them
That would look really cool! I have plans for some led strips on the walls, haven’t decided if up high or not yet.
12:15 also, while I know that's the products actual name (I have one too, and they're awesome) the Kill part is extremely appropriate when standing thay close to that spinning tree
hahaha, yeah never turn your back to it! lol
12:15 I'm watching on a screen, in the future, and I'm still terrified being that close to that spinning desth machine! 😂 But for me, it's like a rollercoaster, feeling of danger, with no danger. To be you... 😬
Subbed. And comment for the algorithm gods... 😂
Thanks!!
Absolutely love the content of this channel. About the spray foaming between the 2 planks, I think its a good idea but I would not do it up to the "brim". I would keep a tiny gap, and put some LED lighting. I don't know if this is just in the video because of youtube or what, but it looks very dark under the sides of your hangar. And I'd imagine working on a workbench in that space, you would probably cast a shadow from ceiling lamps. Anyway, just my 2c of course. love you xoxo
This is a great idea, I should do something like that!
Could you share a link to the table tops? I’m working on my workshop and they may be a great option.
The two long ones were a custom top I bought from Marketplace and ripped in half(its the same as the big table in the middle of my shop), but the middle one that is a bit deeper is from U-Line - they have several sizes, I think this on is 72 x 30", but I had to cut it down to 71" for this shelf.
Fantastic setup! Thanks for the info. I’ll look them up!
Pretty sure I seen in a prior video you had one of those digital microscopes (Yeah I did see it in this video too). Well some people in the repair community had the idea to mount one to a Vesa monitor arm so that the stand doesn't restrict your working area. I did the same just with my Amscope SE400Z. Consider doing the same! Best thing I ever did. I got a stand off marketplace for like $20. So worth it. Then buy a ring light if you can fit it. I made my gooseneck light work for now since the SE400Z's objective is rectangular.
That is such a good idea! Ill check that out. The stand really is always in the way, and its metal so putting pcbs with through hole parts on it isn't ideal.
@@SeanHodginsToo I thought so too! I forget how they mounted theirs but I used the chrome rod from my SE400Z and drilled a hole into the Vesa plate on the side with the set screw. I can use the set screw on the nut for the chrome rod and its worked pretty well. My tables just flimsy and the SE400Z is rather heavy for it but its way better than having the tipsy base. Its really ideal for the digital scopes like you have since they're light.
These videos are great, please keep them up
Will do! Thanks!
Love this workshop and this new content is welcome too. Thanks for sharing.
Great! Thank you!
TLDR Im sure the audience would enjoy, Vlogs, behind the scenes, and how to vids, perhaps even intro to making( if you are up to it. I dont usually enjoy vlogs, but i enjoyed yours. For me i enjoy the more deep dive technical vids. Having a channel with more frequent, and/or lower time consuming videos to boost your growth and more importantly greater connection with your audience. Another idea as you are making your main channel videos, make alongside behind the scene, and deeper dive technical and/or instructional videos that get released here at the same time as the main channels get uploaded with links between all corresponding vids. So, main channel can wow the audience like always. Then if anyone wants to know how its made or want to make there own they can follow the links here, or if they discover this channel vids first they can go be wowed before or after watching the "how" videos here. Then lastly, maybe, a course series of intro to the maker world for first timers to learn and grow their own hobbies. Although thats probably if you become full time content creator.
These are all awesome ideas, and I agree 100% - Finding that balance with main channel and second channel. Small behind the scenes as I'm working on a main channel video could definitely work.
Good to see the human side to the super hero videos of the main channel.
haha yes everything is a lot more relaxed on this channel.
Looking good. Will you have a vanity shelf for you're old projects? As for live streaming, What about posting them later as VODs here? Anyway, looking forward to tech breakdown of the mask 2.0👍
The shelf where I picked up the mask in the main video sort of is one, but right now its cluttered with other stuff just out of disorganization. I want to setup a "hangout" corner with chairs, table and cool lighting and I think they would be around there somewhere. Good idea with the livestreams. Its tricky because the audience of the main channel would get a bigger reach for more fun streams.
Everything below circa 15 degrees Celsius or below dew point (which dependents on temperature and relative humidity) is a place to cause condensation and mould problems in future! I would also recommend installing vapor barrier, just as a good measure, and to isolate yourself from massive wall of polyurethane foam (devil knows what it outgases to the room 🧐) Good luck ❤️
I agree, the room itself is low humidity (especially in the winter) and its cold so there shouldn't be an condensation (yet!) but the closed cell spray foam will protect all that. I've got a few air quality sensors, and it doesn't seem like the foam is offgassing at all(VOCs are normal), I'm super sensitive to smells(chemical and alike) and am quite happy with the spray foam having no smell. The room also has a heavy coat of fire paint(meant for spray foam) and then regular black paint on top of that. So its pretty well sealed. I have to get those openings filled in!
Looking like someone's dream is coming true! Great 👌👏
Slowly but surely!
With the gaps in the braces, leave a recess for some LED strips when you fill it with foam. I reckon you could create some sick lighting effects with the shape of that room Also, I love that shelf setup, I have a setup almost identical. I put a standing desk in the middle, and it was a gamechanger for working on projects of all shapes and sizes.
Ohh thats cool, I was going to do vertical LED "tube" lights on the walls about my head height. I didn't think about putting them in there. Thats neat! Ill have to think about that.
this was really cool to watch... my 2yo son was mesmerized by your fast motion work scenes..
Thanks! and Glad he enjoyed it! I often get mesmerized myself on other peoples fast motion build videos.
Thinking of doing more frequent "Doing stuff in the shop type videos" like this. Ill try to keep the project spoilers hidden!
I enjoy seeing the creative ways people come up with to move large/heavy things alone
2:30
I've done some crazy things working alone. Still have all my toes thankfully haha
really great video. i liked the code walkthrough!
Glad you liked it! Ill do more of that code breakdown in the future.
2:02 you mean you don't expect beginners to be able to crimp DuPont ends on bare wires?? /s I hate DuPont crimping lol
Next step, buy this $500 crimper you'll use a few times over the next couper of years! lol
All this effort to put dominoes around the perimeter of the table, only for the robot to ignore it!
Haha I was very hopeful it would see them
"This code is super BASIC", no it's not, it's C++! 😀
Tip for anyone trying to do this too: some cheap wires (dupont or otherwise) are not made of copper and are extremely frustrating/impossible to solder to, ask me how I know🙃 Anyway, nice hack! Seems like this could be a fun as a series.
A good magnet can find bad usb cables and cheap wires like this. haha
Absolutely love the main channel, but this one is definitively super cool for such quick project. I tought you will let it run on the shop floor while refilling with Domino to have a master domino track. Thanks a lot for the content Sean!
Haha, I still need to make a huge domino track, maybe on the table, its pretty big!
As a novice programmer, really appreciated the walk thru the code.
I used to do walk throughs a lot, Ill probably start doing them more here!
This is AWESOME Sean!!!
Came here to see if you'd seen the video. Nice.
A Mark approved Hack! ✅
Watching this robot weave around obstacles feels like watching my cat deciding where to knock things over.
It does feel like it has a mind of its own sometimes.
Do you want to see more complicated, or more simple hacks in the future?
I'll pick more complicated
Complex stuff with explanations
this is a good level of complexity, but i could handle more. but this is simple enough that i would actually, reasonably attempt it
thanks for the heads up on looking for a local maker space... my library does not have a 3d printer, but i found some shops nearby that allow me to upload cad files and they charge a fee to print out your prototypes
I would say do two playlists. 1st. Easy, simple beginner hacks. 2nd. As crazy as you want, with an explanation of course.
The moment I saw ‘obstacle avoidance,’ I knew this robot could probably handle my social life better than I can.
lol
ya gota do the resonance calibration again on the new table
Ooooo, imagine you covered that car in LEDs....
Hmm, you might be on to something... lol
Just be aware the "white" filament that ships with the X1C combo is most commonly support material and wont print like normal PLA.
Is that why my prints keep dissolving in the rain?!
Oh, also, you need a red couch - I have a red couch in my up stairs work area - Red couches make the BEST "dump stuff here" storage areas! They are not for sitting on. Blue or black couches are for sitting/chilling on !
😂How about light brown or tan? Is there like a middle ground of, "can sit here" and "ill just put this here"?
@@SeanHodginsToo Any colour can be a sitting couch I guess ;) but red couches are clearly the best for storage. My red couch backs me up 100% !
That space looks awesome now with the black walls.... yes, please start live streaming :) No fun harassing you "after the event"... :)
Exactly. UexpectedMaker is concerned for your well being , thusly offering endless tips in the form of much needed constructive criticisms. You are very fortunate to have him as a roll model.
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals I'm not Sean's role model - He's my role model!I am very fortunate to have him !!!!!!
00:00 heh I am still adding more work tables. Is 7 too many for one person?
Nope, 7 is not too many! If you can walk a few meters and not bump into a workstation, you have room for another!!!!!!
I don't know if there is a true limit. But if there is, one of us will find it!
@@SeanHodginsToo As long as there's at least a tiny path to walk around, you could cover like 90% of your floorspace in work tables.
@@JeffGeerling That isn't exactly correct. If you open to chapter nine of Newton's Laws on Worktables it clearly exempts counting work tables that are used in the design, fabrication, or assembly of other work tables. Skip down to height requirements to classify as a work table and you will note that provided 51% of your time is spent on top of tables working on other tables, you could technically cover all of your floor space. ( provided you do not block access to window egress in the event of a fire.....because that is where you pushed the bookcases to cover the afternoon sunlight since shades were not enough ). You mustn't have anything blocking your access to pulling down the bookcase in an emergency, which would prevent you, from screaming "moooooom!" out the window. Oh, while you are up. Hand me that book on Run-on Sentences. tHanks
Needs more Volvo. But seriously, congrats!
More Volvo coming!
Not as much space to make a 90s music video now though... th-cam.com/video/JDZYybgcerE/w-d-xo.html
Space is great and stuff, but what's up with the Volvo Land? :)
I may have a problem... lol - The shell is a 81 242, I got the 93 245 last year and I thought that was it. But a few months ago a 78 242 GT popped up near me that I ended up getting. Need to do a will it run on it.
Some might say too many work tables. I say not enough floor space to support the creativity.
Its a delicate balance.
@@SeanHodginsToo bro I'm still so confused what your job is ?? Because whatever your doing, I want to become That.... The accumulation of PNPs robots, electronics and CNC in combination with a YT channel feels like a DREAM job
@@Basement_CNC I've been a remote engineer/builder for Mark Rober youtube channel for years. I built Glitterbombs and tons of other random props for different videos. And now I help with some Hack Pack stuff too.
While it's fast to print, I find it so slow to do quick few layer test fit pieces.
Interesting. Because all of the fiddley stuff it does before printing?
You can uncheck the bed leveling if you have already leveled it previously, and if that's not enough you can also run your test in ludicrous mode. In relation to any other fast core XY printer it's about as fast as a printer gets so IDK what you're basing it being "so slow" from tbh.
