BEWARE! Waiter Scam in Beautiful Salzburg
Traveling to Austria this summer was a blast. We visited Salzburg and Innsbruck. The only real snag was this waiter who I'm pretty darn sure tried to scam us for about 60 euro - luckily I caught him in the act!

In 2020 we had plans to travel to Austria and Germany - then COVID hit! This summer nothing will stop us! We spent 4 wonderful days in Salzburg. This is the first of two videos on our adventure. If you have only two days then you might consider this (summer) plan: Early morning hop on a bus and head out of town to The Untersberg, mountain for a birds eye view. I've heard a few long term expats say "This is what Samui used to look like 25-30 years ago" and it makes sense. We lived on Koh Samui for 16 months and see the resemblance. By comparison, Khanom is much more chill, but continues to develop. Jungle Club on Koh Samui is a very popular Instagram spot for tourists. Coco Loco sits on 6 Rai of land and in a few years time may end up looking very muc...

Escape to Southern Thailand! Nakhon Si Thammarat
Definitely visiting here on my upcoming trip looks like a great area
Have a great trip!!
Great choice. Went there in August to escape the rain in Ranong where I live. Nakhon Kanom is really nice and quiet with beautiful beaches. Could imagine living there, too
We’ve been here 10 months now and very happy with our decision to move here. No place is perfect. It’s all about figuring out what are the things that are most important to you and letting go of the rest as much as possible. (And periodically traveling to scratch that itch😉).
Yes u shouldn’t ever give them the machine back until you complete the transaction and it’s say complete I’m sure this wasn’t an oversight on his part he’s been doing it for a while and still will until management is confronted He safes d enjoy your European travels
Yeah, that was a “tip” I won’t forget!
Good catch.... too bad it happens.
Oh dude, the number of times I don’t look at the receipt!!!!😅
You have gotten very good at producing your videos….kudos my friends…🙏🏼🙏🏼 - GREAT job!!
Your kindness is very much appreciated!
I LOVE the crickets overdub in baggage claim. 😊 Knowing you as I do, I LOVE when your sense of humor shines through….”wicked” expensive (gee I wonder what state you are from?)…😂😂 - GREAT job Ed and Tomo! I really like your musical choices…..Geng Mâak!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hahah yeah, it was almost like Zombie Quiet there at baggage claim. I kept thinking we were at the wrong place! And then that young woman walked by dressed like she missed her stop in Tokyo!!😂😂😂 The entire thing was just so funny to me. Thanks for taking the time to comment!!
GREAT piece - I LOVE those steins! Can you buy them? Your editing skills, musical choices, and narration has gotten exceptional - Great job Ed and Tomo. Keep up the great work. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
💜💜💜💜thanks my friend!!!
I appreciate the sacrifices you make to bring us all the tourist experiences such as beer gardens. On the tip fraud front, I always try to proceed/complete the transaction myself before handing the device back. That way there’s no opportunity to modify it before closing it out. Maybe that’s something to try in the future.
Yes! That’s exactly what I should have done. Great piece of advice. Thanks for that! Oh and yes, that beer garden was us taking one for the team! 😂
Wow, thanks for the heads up! I’d never thought about situation like this could happen…anywhere, but will be checking receipt more closely now. Could you share about your lodging and mode of travel while in Europe? How much per day per person would you suggest budgeting for a trip in EU? I suppose cost is country dependent.
Oh wow, that’s a tough one. We want comfortable hotels but also seek a good deal. We always check the reviews and avoid places that have a lot of bad ones. One way to save is to find a place with a good breakfast and eat well! Then you can have a much smaller lunch. We take public transportation and like to walk which also saves money. It really does depend on the chosen you make throughout the day (2 coffees can even add up if you go to the tourist spots). Don’t eat where the tourists eat (at least all the time). Follow the locals as they are more likely to know where the better places are with both quality and price. Hope that helps. Also try a google search as there is good info there on the topic.
Hi Ed, nice videos you’re making! I’m so happy that you like khanom so much, my girlfriend and I just but a property there and will be there in 2 weeks……. for the very first time!!!! We live in Portugal and have been searching the net for many months in order to find our “dream project” somewhere in the south and weren’t planning on buying before seeing it but we both knew we hit the jackpot in khanom so we went for it! Watching your videos has given me confidence so thanks for that. We’ll be there for 4 weeks, you never know, maybe we bump into eachother somewhere 🙂
Hi Rolf, That's really exciting and let me be the first to welcome you both to Khanom! It's a pretty small town and the western foreigners all seem to cross paths pretty often. You can often find us walking our dog on the beach in the morning or around sunset. If we don't run into each other by chance then reach out again here or just send me an email. Edandtomo@gmail.com
Is Wing Samui pet friendly ie Dogs?
I think they are but you should reach out to them to double check.
Wow… Omg… this place is absolutely gorgeous and stylish and stunning… 😊
Yeah, it is an amazing space. If I were super rich I could see living in a house like that, no problem!
Thank you so very much for your information, in search of a nice retirement spot that I wouldn’t have to live on peanut butter and jelly sandwich… hell that is expensive too here in the USA… I like your advice and your kindness… Please continue to post more, your doing a great service to us dreamers that are trying to figure this retirement plan out…Blessings to you and your family…
Super kind of you, John. Various factors have influenced my hiatus from posting. None of which I will bore you with. I suspect that soon enough this busy period will wrap up and I will once again have the time and positive headspace to let the creative impulses come out and play. Your words ARE helpful and I thank you for them.
I really liked this video 😊
Much appreciated, Anthony!
I'm in Sichon, it has some really nice untouchable beaches, not traffic and very friendly locals. Also more westerners come here. Khanom/Sichon perfect for slow life. If i wanna have party i can jump on the ferry and go to nearby islands
Could not agree more!
Thanks for posting this, it was a delight to see your experience at the temples. I agree with you that seeing these temples is a beautiful experience. I have done this a few times over the past 30 years. May I suggest including chapters in your videos, it's just a thought. Perhaps it would encourage people to look at your videos by being able view to begin with the things that most interest them. 😊
BKK is such a modern city. Visiting the temples gives one a glimpse of the 18th century.
Spent 10k for 5 days in the ICU for pneumonia 17 years ago Paid cash as soon as they gave me a bill. Over 40 years, spent 30k in hospitals or less than 1000 per year. I paid 10k insurance paid 20k. I can easily self insure now. My care in Bumrungrad was excellent and about $2000 a day. I was in the ICU taking IV zntibiotics and on a broncho dialator everyday Spent another 150 bringing in my own food everyday from nearby restaurants. Now 70, I expect my expenditures to double or triple. I can get insurance to pay at least 70% and qualify for national health insurance in Japan which is based on local income. 80% if my income is from outside Japan so the cost is not so high. I always have 100k for emergencies and can get 1 million quickly if needed. This takes years of preparation and planning Hospitslized 4 times and 5000 worth of dental work. Less than $10 per month. I keep 100k in reserve and only spend about 60 a month.
Thanks for typing so much information. I really hope that others will read and take in your experience for their reference. Again can take a toll on ones finances that's for sure and like you said from 70 onwards things go up! All the best, Michael!
Everything okay?
Hi Denise, All good, just really busy lately and haven't made time to sit at the desk for anything creative. Trying to relight the flame at this moment. Your comment is very much appreciated!!!
@@edandtomo Oh that is fabulous news! Thank you for sharing.
Samui a gipsy village with Paris price Litter island
Interesting choice of words. We love Khanom!
We ordered Japanese Yen a few months back when it was at its lowest for our trip Japan from the States in two weeks. We watch foreign currency for a year out prior to any trip…it’s a good tip for saving on travel expenses.
That's good planning! I will have to keep that approach in mind for our next trip overseas.
I had quotes for age bracket 61-65 4500-7500 euros. Not yet included are accident, outpatient nor pre existing conditions. Area Asia. Direct billing more expensive. I expect to budget 6000 for me and 6000 for my wife and expect to go for a deductibles of about 5000, which I deem already very high. We’re just in the planning phase, still in Switzerland. Costs here are slightly higher but deductibles are only 300 Euros plus a 10% participation at costs above this. And of course here we can’t get canceled. I like your statements at the end because you clearly say amounts and the risk of not being renewed. All insurers in Thailand can kick us out any time and that’s a real issue and therefore one has to opt for a great broker and a top tier insurer as you did.
For us it was right at the top of the list before almost anything else. For those under 40 I suspect it's much lower down but as we age it creeps up, like nightly trips to the toilet! Thanks for taking the time to write all that you did and I hope others benefit from your words. All the best and stay healthy! Ed
@@edandtomo 🤣 Thank you dear Ed. Facts of life. All the best, Pete
Thanks for the video, last year, I lived in the Jomtien area close to Pattaya for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week and not buying any lady drinks and barfines. Been eating Thai foods in the market not western food. I was planning to retire but changed my mind in the last minute. In my early 50's now and back to work in CA. Will do this again, next year.
Thanks for your extended comment. I would imagine that there are lots of people out there in a similar situation. I have a friend who’s a contractor in AZ and comes over every summer to escape the heat and chill for 2-3 months every year. If I were single and not quite ready to retire that might be a good work/life balance.
This is exactly what I've been looking for. More experience of Souther Thailand. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind comment.
That place is gorgeous!! We're sold!!😊👍
Yeah, nice place, right!
Wonderful video, thank you for sharing!
You are very welcome 🙏

Come to find out it was a reaction to some serious mold in the house! We have since moved and symptoms have since gone!
Fantastishe😊
Thanks for viewing.
Khanom and Sichon is nice and quiet (have been there a few times) but transportation to international airports is a bit of a hassle. If you would like friends and family to come to visit often, getting there is rather inconvenient for them. Same if you want to travel internationally. It can be rather isolating as a result.
Thanks for your thoughts. The airport is about 90 minutes away. Samui airport was much more convenient but the pluses here for us far outweigh the minuses. We recently traveled internationally and leaving our car very close to the airport cost us just ฿100 per day, and included pick up and drop off service! That’s hard to beat! We don’t feel isolated at all but that’s just our opinion. Living in a smaller community with good friends makes us feel very much at home!
@@aislt8786 11 years in Khanom. Airport has never been an issue. Took the same amount of time to get from Rawai to Phuket airport 12 years ago...
wow! very good movie making 🎉
Thank you very much for those kind words!💪💜
You two rock. If I were looking for a home in Thailand now, that's exactly where I would go.
Thank you, Roy, very kind!!
? Your not moving there, so why the title? Very few could afford the electric bill let alone the cost of buying a house this big. Small, efficient, energy saving condos are the way to go in Thailand as you spend a lot of time away and outdoors. Peace and Love Y'all.
To answer your question about the title…by definition dreams don’t always come true. But living in Pattaya I expect you already have an acute awareness of that fact🤣🤣. All the best to you as well.
Wow!! Gorgeous home!
Thank you! 😊 much appreciated!
Thumbs up 👍 Ed & Tomo
Thanks for the visit, Mango.
My preference has always been the modern open concrete glass wall minimalist design. But after living here in Thailand for many years, with plans to to perhaps build in the future, I am now thinking to add some Thai/Asian elements to this concept
It’s fun to explore and play in space this way, to learn what is needed and what is superfluous and how those desires grow as we do. For me, it’s more and more about simplification and quiet/calm spaces.
LOL A sauna in Thailand. thanks I'll pass on that one. 😂
But if I had it, I’d use it!
Amazing place love it and love you two 😻 . Thanks for showing us such amazing place ( my dream home too )
Yeah, we had fun filming this one.
I guess it'll do if you're on a fixed budget, but it would be nice to see something a little more upscale ;) Seriously, though. That's an amazing place, and for what it appears to offer it looks like a good price. The upkeep is going to be intense, though. You'll definitely need some full-time staff to take care of it.
Hahaha, we thought to title the video “Fix er upper in Thailand” but decided against. And yes, it will require loving care.
Love the humor along the way. Amazing house, you should have stayed a night!
Thanks much, maybe next time we will!
It is impossible to buy nowadays for guys like me. 400-500k for a decent home and even those have alot of issues..
I hear you! You could get 2 bdr in many parts of Thailand for well under 2.
Greetings from Australia. i've watched quite a few Samui type vids, which lead me to your channel. Ed and Tomo videos are my new fave. Looking forward to your future Khanom / Thailand adventures

Nice. Thanks for sharing it. I see it is 11 min away from where I live :)

Great find guys! We will go for sure!
Yeah, it’s a a nice little escape with a great view!
You had 10 suitcases, when I retire it is one suitcase, carry on, laptop bag and my dog. Clothing is so inexpensive in Thailand no need to haul 10 suitcases from to Thailand from Japan.
And good for you! Way to live!!
Ed... any chance I can connect with you? I am a writer for international living magazine, and will be spending all of july in Samui with my family. Just loving this video and especially where Ed tells of his single mom working her tail off. I'm literally that mom in my life too. I only had to do it with 3 kids, but it was hard.
