The breeze is up with four foot waves yet only one crewmember is wearing a lifejacket . . .
Good observation. Would be safer if everyone was wearing a life jacket.
6 seconds from the call to hoist to spinnaker flying
My crew is good!
Nice tacking, mark roundings, spinnaker set, good trimming, jibing well done....all by great crew work! How did you do?
Thank you! We were second for this race and second for the series. We have three J 80's in our fleet that are very difficult to beat in light air. They are 2900 lbs and we are 12000 lbs!. We won the spring series and were fourth for the summer series.
Good start, great crew work, and then an unfortunate windward mark foul.....all followed by spinnaker hoisting problems......but you and your crew were on top of all of it. All the while you're working to set your spinnaker, I was watching the boat ahead....they had an hourglass in theirs. The camera positioned at the stern captures all the action, just like what the helmsman sees.
Not our best first half of a race!
I look forward to these as mush as Mike Conway's pics
Thanks, Joel! I take that as a really nice comment because I know how much I appreciate Mike's pictures!
Thanks for great video. Cam you please tell what is the boat model and size?
This is a J34c. 34 feet.
Just found your channel and am enjoying watching the action. Looks like you have a great crew with teamwork spot on. Curious what cameral you're using to capture the action?
Thank you for watching! I use a GoPro 9. I mount it on a Hohem gimbal to keep the camera level no matter how much much the boat rocks from side to side.
Good start.....clear air! Isn't it great to have someone calling the countdown? Crew work is definitely a benefit while the skipper focuses on steering the boat. Great job!
Thank you! I have a great crew!
Dang, it looks cold! Looks like you have a great crew....focused, skillful, and ready. Frustrating when you don't quite lay the mark but your crew was on top of what needed to be done.
Seems like we've had more cold days than normal this year. Normally we don't try to call a lay line from that far away. Sure didn't give the foredeck much time to set the spinnaker!
You had a front row seat to my halyard wrap...
I guess we did! We had enough problems of our own!
Thanks for great video. Cam you please tell your boat model and size?
The boat is a J34c. 34'
@@fredlawrence2106 Thanks, I have boat Gambler35 also fast sailor.
Thanks for asking!
@@janisspalvins677 I'll bet it is!
Genesee Yacht Club Heavy Air Race!? Yacht Club Heavy Air Race!? Heavy Air Race!? Heavy Air!? Air!? Air!? Air!? wtf
We were flying our smallest jib and the boat was still heeling and we even had spray hitting the camera mounted to the stern rail. I consider that heavy air. Just my opinion.
Old guys, no discipline, weak amateurs only.
Why bother making a rude comment like that? Get a life bud. Probably don’t even own a boat.
Looks like Upwind and spinaker not set but looks like a whole lot of pure fun on the water. WOW
Thank you! We have fun!
What boat is that?
It's a J34c. Great boat!
Nice, fast hoist.
Thank you!
The luff on your main looks a bit loose.
It was pretty windy so we weren't using the whole sail. We would have been healing a lot more if we were using the whole sail. Just my opinion.
@@fredlawrence2106flatten the entire main- halyard (or use the Cunningham) & outhaul, then ease off on the traveler to ease the helm. I had a C&C 121 on Lake Michigan and always sailed with a full main, we shaped it to the conditions. Great kite set though.
@@timgabrielse7830 I agree with everything you said!
What kind of yacht is this?
It is a J34c. It is a great boat!
A pretty fast one .
@@robertlyon2926 It was a fast ride!
This cant be Rochester... I didn't see one can of Genny light.
Funny! You are right! Should be some Genny on board!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. The crew performance was impeccable, each knowing what to do and performing their duties with precision. You guys made flying the chute look easy. Another positive thing I noticed was no drastic turning of the helm....your steering was smooth and timely. Look, I'm no expert despite having raced for years.....I was reminded the importance of properly steering, calmly calling tacks, and allowing the crew to do what they do best. Oh, what i also noticed was how once the spinnaker was set, the crew sat down and were still....unneccessary walking around and standing slows the boat down....but I bet you know that. Great job!
Thank you for your kind words! I have a great crew! Everyone works together very well!
Got to love those starts!! Thanks for sharing.....enjoyed the video.
Thank you!
7 people with short sleeves and 1 in foul weather jacket. Someone is out of place.
Y'all work real well together.
Thank you!
Good job time keeper.
Thank you!
Well trained Crew!
I'm lucky to have such a great team!
Looks like a light wind race - you’re not healed over😂
Actually we were healed quite a bit. All you can see through the ports is water. The wind was 10 to12 knots most of the race.
Looks like you’re digging through a cloud
