I normally have 3 bags to carry on; regular roller luggage, personal item (backpack normally) and then a chest bag that holds all my inflight essentials excluding my tablet. this is plenty of space for stuff and I've never been checked. like besides tsa line my chest bag is never checked. and that has phone, passport, wallet, small snacks, etc.

Do not do the extra carry on with the cross body bag, you could get in HUGE trouble with that people will think you are trying to smuggle stuff in

I always had my backpack and small roller bag as my personal and carry on, but then also always had a side strap bag, and 2 random bags of food and snacks my grandma would give me right before check in. somehow always got my items through

My goodness just bring a pair of multipurpose shoes most of the time one can get a pair of flip flops for like 3€ at the destination.

My sister’s friend was helping me pack and I told her to roll my clothes and then she shared with me that will give me more room so it was a good choice to Roll my clothes up instead of folding them

I don't know the kids' age, but it is a generally bad idea if you have kids to do this.
