Meher Baba led an entire generation of musicians and woke westerners into introspection. You are giving folks the impression that Melanie sang this song at Woodstock, which she could never have, seeing as she was inspired while singing in the rain at Woodstock to pen this song. It's so easy to Google and check your facts. Interview after interview she gives about how this song got written. While singing at Woodstock in the rain, the audience all lit their lighters and some candles to show her they were still there listening to her. That coupled with what she saw there and who she heard was the inspiration for this song. She went there with her parents in support. By the time she was done singing, people in the rain, lighting candles and lighters, she had the main tune in her head and went home to pen this song. Please post responsibly with actual facts. Woodstock took place from Aug 15, 1969 - Aug 18, 1969. Melanie wrote the song after performing at Woodstock in August 1969; the song's lyrics describe what she felt as she looked out at the sea of people attending the music event.(Internet!!). This song was not released until March 7, 1970. but don't take my word for it....
