Beside the Seaside

Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) in character singing about being beside the silvery sea. From the movie The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
I grew up listening to Bob Barry on the radio broadcasting Oklahoma football. I always enjoyed it because he loved the Sooners so much and you could hear the excitement and enthusiasm in his voice. Those big plays were the best with him broadcasting. Miss you Mr. Barry Sr, and Jr. You guys will never be replaced.
R.I.P.
R.I.P Commentation for sooner football has not been the same and never will be without you Sr.
Rock 100.5 The KATT and 95X
I live across the street from the memorial, my best freinds dad was in it. He survived thankfully.
21 years later, still hurts my heart
so sad wait was someone who was ur sister r ur bother I pry for everyone please i'm so scaryed I miss the kid's
I really hope he is burning in hell for what he did
I remeber this time loud and clear.
It's almost been 20 years... Can't believe it.
BOOMER
toddcherry37 SOONER.
Great bit! The first time I saw it, he had me fooled!
I was 14 when this happened...I cry my eyes out every time I hear this version of lighting crashes. Now 18 years later I hear this and cry and hold my child. I still feel for everybody that had to deal with this horrific time.
being a TEXAS fan, this game is like Christmas morning....great rivalry....
I was walking to my sophomore OK history class when I heard rumors of a bombing. Got to class and the teacher said two words. "Shut up." Then he turned up a tv. Went there that weekend. Heard this song (KATT FOREVER!), so many rumors, too many stories, felt my blood boil so hot I was shaking on the outside. Didn't see my cousin because he was a Guardsman at the time and was at the site. Thank you Rick and Brad for providing an outlet for emotions that were so close to overwhelming all over OKC.
Bro look ^
I was there. This still hurts
Melinda, I didn't see Dennis performance during the live broadcast but was thankful to see it when I thought I was going to watch something else recorded from my TV. I was so blessed that I wanted to share it with my adult kids that live away from OK and have been so burdened by what Oklahoma has been asked to go through. PLEASE POST THIS YOURSELF SO WE CAN SHARE IT!
Please remove. You do not have permission to use the song.
Awesome. From the Cookson Hills to the Kaimichis' across to the mighthy Wichitas'.
So beautiful! I know you were quite a blessing to the hurting! ALL GLORY TO GOD!
i know the next day as i was going to work this was on 93.3 playing this song as a tribute
i still rember this day i rember were i was i lived in tampa and pregnet with my daughter i walk in the liveroom and saw it on the news i was shocked thoses poor babys and all the people .and familys left to grieve
I was shocked as can be, when it turned out that vaudeville performer was actually Basil Rathbone himself!
He's performing with The U.S. Army Blues from Washington, DC, an element of The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own."
I was in the 2nd grade when this happened and I remember my mom pulling me out of school. We lived right outside OKC... We had a friend who was trapped in the rubble.
KATT Radio I believe put this together in OKC, Might have been Rick and Brad (DJ's)
This was actually done by KATT 100.5 out of Oklahoma City (grew up listening to it) So hard to believe its been 17 years today... seems like yesterday....
17yrs later and it's still fresh in my mind. I was a sophomore at MCHS walking from the band hall to the main building when we heard the blast. It still breaks my heart.
i was 13 years old sitting in science class wen this happen n i now liive in cali n i wil never forget this day as long as i live ..
A great reminder
Time to sell your guitar Chuck
what cd was this on i had one and it was stolen out of my car awhile back i know it had an adult and child hands on cover
Rathbone could do anything! I love it. I did not realize it was Rathbone the first time I saw this movie. People don't appreciate his versatility enough these days because Sherlock Holmes and all those great swashbuckling villains. But the man could act and he loved to do comedy.
stfu! this is the only thing i think about whenever i hear this song - and i was seriously 6 when it happened. remember sitting in the back of my mother's blue neon being scared of this song because of this particular mix. AND I WAS IN NEW JERSEY so i find it amusing that a lot of different states (like WI???) were hearing the same thing, if not similar. man oh man, thank God for TH-cam. incredible.
Happy time song, I love watching War veterans get all done up and have a dance around a stage whilst singing something absolutely ridiculous. And Basil, well he's my favorite.
Even though this film is in Victorian times, and Holmes is singing a song from around the 20's, Basil is so owning the scene I just don't care about the history faux-pas. He rocks!!!
What if we Oklahoma City citizens found out this was an inside job? Now before you cuss me I must let you know I am Brian Friedel and grew up here and was in the Oklahoma National Guard when this happened and was assigned to partake in the incident. I saw things that scar me too this day and I still cry as I hear this song and remember being 18 years old and seeing this building with my bare eyes. I cried every day. But our Govt. is corrupt and pieces don't fit. There's more to the story, godble
Wow, I haven't heard this version in forever.
Hey ya'll... I am from Oklahoma City. I lived here and worked here a mile from the bombing. This version of Lightning Crashes was played on KATT (100.5)...It took days for me to even leave my house. I just held my kids. The FIRST time I was able to CRY about it all..was when KATT played this song. THANK YOU to whomever uploaded it! Thank you....
This makes me smile tremendously! It's great to see him being so light-hearted here and singing and dancing! And I do agree that this performance could totally fool you into thinking he's neither Rathbone nor Holmes! Genius! Thanks for posting!

@schnad I was in NJ and heard it on the radio. I have been searching for it ever since.
@dosborn05 The original was done by Rick and Brad from the Katt Radio I heard it in the following days. I was 6 blocks away when it happened. It blew the windows out of the Doctors office we were in that day. Still makes me sad when I hear this song.

@schnad This version at least was done by an OKC radio station but it was picked up or redone by other stations around the country. I've heard several versions.
What perfection! I must say I saw this again one day and I realized only later the singing performer is Basil Rathbone. Great work! Best disguise of Sherlock Holmes ever!
Thanks for posting.
What's the name of the guy with the chick?
The best of the Basil/ Sherlock films. They all are good, and nobody will ever be a better Holmes and Watson than Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.
