Monarch AOD transmission part 5. What I did wrong!
Thanks to Dan Gilsdorf from Silverfox transmissions I know what I did wrong. He said I probably used the flex plate from the C6 transmission on the AOD. That pushes the converter about 2/10 on an inch to far into the trans.
I did a quick measurement of the flex plate I used vs what I should have used.
Dan was right!
I now know what I did wrong. I hope you learn from my mistakes.

Monarch AOD Transmission. Part 4 Parts ordered.
มุมมอง 484 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I took the rest of the trans apart looking for damage. I didn’t find any. There Are metal fillings in it so I’ll be taking the valve body apart and cleaning Everything in it along with All the other’s components. I talked to a trans guy today and he told me to flush the new torque converter too. He uses mineral spirits with great results. So will I.

76 Monarch 347 & AOD Trans Update. NO GEARS after Rebuild (Revised)
มุมมอง 839 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I install a new distributor, wires and coil. I rebuilt another AOD trans. This time I did something wrong. It doesn’t go forward or backwards and there isn’t any flow through the trans cooler lines. I investigate what I did wrong...

347 in 76 Monarch. First Start.
มุมมอง 11919 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I finally got things hooked up enough to start the 347. I really wasn’t expecting any trouble because it was a good running engine I pulled from a car. I need to get a new distributor and wires as I’m not keeping what is on it.
Engine Dangle Angle and making a Trans Mount cross member.
มุมมอง 141วันที่ผ่านมา
I set my engine dangle angle to have the carb mounting surface parallel to the rocker panels. Taping that allows the engine and trans to be at the correct down angle for the drive shaft. I also make a simple yet very strong trans mount cross member.

Looks like the gear was on the right way. When you flip it around it would push even harder into the back of the pump housing. Maybe the pump assembly wasn't fully seated into the case? More likely, the converter wasn't seated in the gear.
Hi Dan, I'm not familiar with Fords, but think the input clutch assembly was not fully engaged with all the clutches and splines, thus not fully seated. This prevented the reaction shaft assembly (the thing that supports the TC and the Rings) engaging the input clutch properly. The pump was spinning but the reaction shaft rings did not line up with the input cluch assembly, thus no line pressure. In the video where you take the pump screws out with the air gun, you can see that the pump housing has made contact to the input clutch assy. I think you can save it. But may need a new pump gear and reaction shaft assy.
The answer is in part 5.
That engine sounds powerful!
It ran very strong in the 66 Mustang I pulled it from. It should run well in it's new home too.
Good job! Dan
Thank You. I appreciate the praise.
Good to see that you have been working with your word processor for your logo! Nice work making the transmission mount. Thanks for sharing it with us, Dan.
My hand written signs get lost easy. I wanted one I could just print out when needed. The mount is easy and strong. Today I’ll find out if the exhaust pipes clear it. If not I’ll redo the mount.
I wondered why the price was so low. Till I saw the rust. I'm used to dealing with rust free AZ cars.
@@geraldscott4302 The car was in Texas and Arizona. The vinyl top let water run in the quarter areas and rusted it. The rest of the car is Very rust free. I Do plan to fix the rust but then of course the price goes up again.
@@dansmessygarage6720Ok. I can work on/fix/modify just about anything mechanical, but bodywork is just not my thing. I have no idea how to do bodywork.

Keep it up, Dan. I enjoy your videos.

Shout out back at you.
Thanks for bringing us along, Dan.
You are welcome. I was really hoping I had what I needed on hand to make the A/C compressor work. It just wasn’t going to happen. Adding another pulley in the mix complicated everything.
Nice work

Thank you, Dan, for a very detailed video. I cannot believe no one else leaves a comment!
You are very welcome. I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. Hopefully you learn a tidbit from each one.
Nice work, Dan.
Thank you !
nice work Dan. Ive been working on treating some rust spots on my Xterra lately. Gonna tackle the rear bumper when the weather cools off.
There are a lot of helpful rust repair videos available. Watch as many as you can 😁
Is there any particular reason why you did not use a regular size hvlp paint spray gun?
A big gun wouldn’t get into the tight areas on the drivers side firewall area. I wanted to make sure paint got into the crevices. My air brush allowed that. I could have used my big gun at the end but wanted to limit the big overspray cloud.
Looking good Dan
Thank you.
That carburetor actually looks to be very easy to work on! Thanks for sharing, Dan.
It was! It seems like a great carb.
Thank you. I hope so as well 😁
Great work, Dan! I hope you get ALL the money for it!
I hope so too!
Dan, at 9:38 you mentioned a crank seal before installing the crank pulley. Mine didn't have a seal that I noticed. Mine is a 64 200 inline from a Falcon. Can you send me a link to whichever seal you've using? By the way, great video. Another question, did you use a puller to remove the cam sprocket, or did you just pry that off originally. Having trouble getting mine off. Thanks, Woody
The seal I was referring to is installed in the timing cover. I don’t have a part number for it nor a link to it. It came in a gasket kit for the engine. I just slowly pried the cam gear off.
@@dansmessygarage6720 Ok, understood. Thanks
Carbureted or EFI? Its important. 😂
This engine was going to have a carb. No EFI.
I would keep rivets in there Frankenstang !!!!
That would make an interesting look. Do it and make a TH-cam video so we all can enjoy it!
Yes! Most Definitely enjoy the car! Great work!
Yes! Thank you!
that thing sounds very potent!
It runs very well. I’m very happy with the power and performance.

Dan if your wanting to build your channel up to the point where you can make a good living from it just let your viewers what you need them to do and I think you'll find for the most part they will be happy to help. If you want to grow this channel to something massive you might want to try and find some 18 to 25 year old kid that is into JDM cars with turbos and tuning and is as good at that kind of build as you are at old school builds and simply come up with some sort of skit and also think about dabbling into modding a Tesla and having Rick Builds on or someone like that to mix it up and to attract those younger guys which make up the largest group of people who watch TH-cam. Or simply keep on keeping on and I will continue to watch either way works for me.
I’m OK doing what I do. Others can do whatever they want to. It is the TH-cam way.
It looks good, Dan. Looking forward to hearing it run!

All brake parts came from TomClassics on EBay. Great parts, fit fine, high quality hardware with poor instructions. I emailed them a couple times and they answered each email, briefly but at least got some kind of answer. Great kit but will have to figure things out for yourself.
