THE KINGBEES - "My Mistake" Live at Record Surplus, Los Angeles
The Kingbees live performance at Record Surplus in Los Angeles, CA on September 26th, 2015. This video features The Kingbees new wave rockabilly hit tune "My Mistake" played by the band’s founding members Jamie James on vocals/guitar and Michael Rummans on bass, plus Kip Dabbs on drums.
Celebrating the release of the reissue of their 1980 self-titled debut album for the record’s 35th anniversary, The Kingbees performed songs from that LP at Record Surplus. See "My Mistake" on this video. Check out Record Surplus’ TH-cam Channel to see another video with more of the Kingbees.
The Kingbees, along with such bands as Stray Cats and The Blasters, revived rockabilly onto the 80’s pop landscape. After a stint with a re-formed Steppenwolf, Jaime James founded The Kingbees with Michael Rummans on bass and Rex Roberts on drums. Signing with RSO Records in 1979, The Kingbees released their self-titled debut LP the following year. Their stripped-down, rockabilly flavored, just plain fun single “My Mistake” became a hit nationwide. A second album by the Kingbees entitled The Big Rock followed in 1981, however their label, RSO Records, went defunct shortly thereafter. James started performing with former Stray Cats members Lee Rocker and Slim Jim with regular gigs at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, California. In 1993, James released Cruel World, followed by Crossroads in 2000.
Known as “the last record store”, Record Surplus was founded in 1985. Record Surplus stocks over 50,000 used vinyl records of all genres. Plus a wide selection of new vinyl records and used CDs and DVDs is available. Offering every style of music imaginable, discovery is a big part of the fun at Record Surplus. And the store’s listening stations give customers a chance to preview records and CDs before they buy. Record Surplus has been named “Best Record Store” by The Argonaut, one of the “Ten Best Record Stores in Los Angeles” by LAIST, “Best Record Store” by LA Weekly and “Best Records and CDs” by LA Hotlist.

MJS Too bad the Ramones and Muffs never toured togerher.
Beautiful and reminiscent.
heart heart heart
Kimmm!!!
One of the songs that define the 80s. Still sounds great - incredible with just a single guitar.
I love you Kim!
Their Surf Instrumentals are their best stuff_ I live in Raton_ I prolly pass these guys all the time and don't even realize who they are_ They look like every other guy in town
Nobody has commented in a year?? Come on people...that's fricking outstanding... Now watch a video of how hard Mr. Case and the Plimsouls rocked this song in the 80s....;-)
👍❤
Have this b/w Bulldog Top Rank 45 Australia
Easily one of my favorite all time songs. I play it all the time ❤️😊❤️😊❤️😞
i Knew David O i am from Paramount. are you from Paramount Peter ?
Opened for you in 81 or so at Pacifica High School..million miles was obviously awesome, but Zero Hour was a great song as well.
💯
Still rocking’. I REALLY liked how they sounded with Danny O’Brien on drums and Ricky Venus on bass…. Does anyone remember?
Oh yea Jamie!
Truly for me one of LA"s iconic songs.
Born in SE England and living in western Canada I spent some extended periods in Eagle Rock, Whittier and Long Beach California when KROQ... "ROCK of the EIGHTIES!!! " was playing all of this type music. Sound track to Valley girls etc. Warm fuzzy feels from that time in life.
Green Day version just plain awful!
Best Power Pop recording of all time, especially the 12” single version.
Love it one of the best bands of the 80’s!
We got two weirdos next door, they are twins, God save us 😂 this trio still helps me a lot with my mood swings!
Fell in love with a woman when this came out between The Kingbees and Nikki & the Corvettes we had a revved up time!
YYYEEESSSSSSSS!!! 🎉🙌🫶 Not a single bad track on this EPIC album!!!
"Shake-Bop" is my favorite. "Sweet Sweet Girl To Me" and "Shake-Bop" should have charted also. I played them on my 10-watt college radio station, so at least the people on campus heard them :)
Amazing song. Amazing composer.
Great Stuff
Thank you for being there! Thank you for recording their footage. I’m a newbie for the Muffs.
Thank you so much for this tune, Peter. It is Always on my list!!!
This song has a great riff to it and good lyrics. Many of today's bands could learn a lot from it. I'm surprised somebody hasn't covered it. Are you listening Brian Setzer.
That 12 string is butchering it!
coolest Rumble showdown I've ever seen !😎
Is he a drinker????
One of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time.
This band had amazingly creatively and energy!!! They have to be the most underrated of all time!!!
Great song man!
A classic!!
Peter. Otis Gibbs mentioned you. I'm hear as a result. You have a new fan.
Her vocals on Lori Meyers are legendary
I agree with you! Mimmo - The Random -
That 12 string sounds like a harbinger of doom, and I am absolutely here for it!
RIP Kim
Someone should contact VH1 "Band reunion" and get the Plimsouls back together for a one night show!
that show hasn't been on in like 18 years....
