Mercruiser 350 MPI distributor rotor removal
Recent tune up and I had a heck of time getting the rotor cap off. Couldn't find much TH-cam help so I filmed how I got it off.

    Nice video guy. I’ve built a t”few guns but never messed with these pistol sights. Got a 40 dollar job off of Amazon today and like you said, no instructions. You made it easy and all the pistols you were were working with I already have. Keep up the good work!

  • @geoexchange12
    @geoexchange12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can do left or right push. You really should push out/off from left to right, on/in from right to left. It may not matter on a Glock, but it certainly does on other pistols. Take out the bolts holding the silver rod (two at top), slide out the rod and reverse the part that slides across. Now you can have the angled piece correct. Additionally, use the tool to push against, not the holder rods. This will keep the slide perpendicular/square to the tool - use the tool edge to support one side (90 degree surface area) and bring ONE holder rod in from the other side. To push from right to left, (looking left to right) - tool block/slide/ holder rod. To push left to right, (looking left to right) - holder rod, slide, tool block. Hard to put into words, but it's much easier this way and less chance of misaligning the tool. Do not force it! If it doesn't move, realign and make sure everything is "squared" up.

      @edwardschrank4803 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure the spring is against the slide? I would think you have a plate in the slide (with spring on top of that) which you drift into place with the tool or punch. This tool does a great job of making the job easy. I made this video a long time ago and not sure of the availability anymore. Hope you can find one.

    Will this work for both removal and installation of both front and rear sights on the m&p shield? Read some horror stories online about the slide cracking or sight bending.

    • @edwardschrank4803
      @edwardschrank4803 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worked great on my shield for both. I don’t know how anyone could crack a slide. You snug up the slide so it won’t move. Line up the pushing block as low on the sight as possible so you aren’t getting any torque or tilt. It is a simple press fit and it slides right out.

  • @tanitatt

      This works great for any type of dovetail that I have tried it on. If the slide will fit, it should work. I made this video several years ago, I haven't searched for the tool in awhile to see if it is still available.

      My understanding (keep in mind I am not a gunsmith, just someone who posted video on you tube!), for Glocks it doesn't make a difference which way you push as the groove is symmetrical. I didn't have an issue with any of my sight replacements. Also, watch this guys video (th-cam.com/video/jd4mDgYlqV4/w-d-xo.html). He contacted S&W with the same question: their response to him was "it doesn't matter". As always, do your homework on your specific handgun before tinkering.

    • @edwardschrank4803

      Perfect. You do have to take the slide apart to take the rear sight off. Since you need to take the whole thing apart, do the trigger kit at the same time. Lots of videos on the shield on how to do this. Not hard.

    This thing works on some, not on others. I decided to experiment on my M&P 40 compact first. Getting the front sight off was a bitch, even with this tool. The back ones were very hard as well since the tool only hits the dot holder, not the sight directly over the dovetail. I was installing TruGlo sights on the M&P, and I have to tell you, this tool doesnt work well with these, at least on the M&P compact. The front sight on the Truglo sights, are very long, so you cant get the pusher block, against the front sight AT the dovetail. It pushes on the long sight, and actually cocked the sight slightly crooked in the dove tail. I had to pull the slide out a bit, and re-seat the pusher block, out towards the end of the front sight, ( the part closest to the back of the gun ) to try to straighten it. I think I got it, but its a serious PIA. Now on my H&K, I was installing Tijicon HD sights. The tool did ok getting the sights off. The angled slide was pain to secure, but once you get the hang of snugging things up and straightening as you do, you can get it secure. The H&K is just a much better machined gun, so the stock sights came off smoothly. Had to use the angled side of the pusher for the back ones. The Trijicons are a MUCH better fit then the Truglos. Went on very smooth. Cant use this tool on my CZ. The CZ has a front sight that is pushed on and off from the front, not the sides. The Sig is at the factory being looked at, so I will try the Truglos on it when it gets back. Having to slide pieces of plastic or thick paper to protect everything is a serious pain as well as your trying to tighten everything up. I finally just mad a wrap for the slide, so all sides were protected. There is a way to improve its ability for several guns, needs to be machined in the back block, where the slide sits, allowing deeper recess so you can get the pusher block right over the dovetail on a few different guns. It will be machined between the bottom screws. I'll probably do this in a few weeks. Overall, I got it to work, but noticed right off that since most front sights are flat, the actual pushing is being done with the driver screw pushing against the angled side of the pusher block, which left a serous "cut in " mark from the driver screw contact point. So you have to watch that if you need to use the angled side of the block now, there is a really deep, contact mark in the pusher block, and must make sure no part of this contacts the sight your installing, or you'll definitely, mark it up. Overall, meh. There are tools that do the entire job, and any gun, but your gonna pay through the nose. I guess it works, but not on everything, and on some sights, like the front Truglo Pro sights, be careful.

    I've got one of these to change out the slides on a Kimber 1911. Should work fine on the rear, but I'm a bit concerned about the front since the only place the pusher contacts is the blade. We'll see how it goes.

    • @2011Rick
      @2011Rick 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can'e use it on the Kimber rear sight. The body of the sight is considerably aft of the dovetail and the top of the slide is curved. I would be pushing well behind and above the dovetail. I need a pusher block will a narrower extension that actually pushed on the dovetail. The tool would work perfectly with such an option.

    • @ArmenArmenjs
      @ArmenArmenjs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly, I had the same issue with kimber UCII, I heard Kimbers are tight as xd. I tried it on xd and worked just fine. Believe me is not easy as the OP video with one finger, but it does move the sight. Correct direction for xd is right to left away from ejection port. If you find out about kimber let me know, I called Kimber and correct way to remove is left to right and install is right to left.

    woah!!! hold on there!!! this video is showing how to use it incorrectly!!!! the bottom pins are only designed to take up slack!!! when thee instructions were typed, it specified to placed the slide against the tool in the direction of press force!!! don't use em to hold the slide in the center!!! instructions clearly states to have your press block centered on the "sight" not the slide on the tool!!! your centering the press block on the sight so it doesn't twist!!!! if you use the pins to center it on the tooling your floating the slide on the rear of the tooling and risking serious damage to your slide if It slips!!!! READ THE DESIGNERS INSTRUCTION'S WORD FOR WORD!!!!!!

I also want to get the Ameriglos that you have but wondering if the profile isn't a little tall for some of the kydex holsters that are available. I'm guessing this tool worked just as well on the front sights, the only difference is that you have to use the flat side of the pusher.

    Okay I'm back again.. sight pusher works on xds with bottom plate moved for the guide rod shroud. I wrapped a business card around touching areas lined it up and drove it out to the left. everything went well. would have went faster but instructions said not to force it out.. at 1st it wasn't seeming to work. so I researched more and found out that Springfield sights are some of the tightest fits and machined on and WILL need force. well I went back in again and BY hand I torqued it a bit more it kinda popped.. I backed the pusher off checked everything and all was good and sight had moved. went back in again and it was easy from there. no marks both sights removed and ready for some xs bigdot sights. (I think the pop was the locktite) hope thus helps the next guy in my position.

    This sight pusher is the best deal in pushers out there. Heavy duty and well made for a price than beats everybody else.. Nice video review thanks.

    Good to see someone using this tool. I just ordered this from ebay to change the sights out on my Glock 27.

      +Daniel Bryant (irishd501) Awesome. You will need the small driver tool to get the front sight off the Glock, it has a small bolt, not a press fit. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O5ILUM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00

    What about the front sight?

      +C CT It does work on the front sight. Of course the Glock screws in with the special little driver, but it worked great for my Shield. I lined it up on the XD, it will work there too. Sorry for the slow reply, I didn't get any notification someone had posted!

      Edward Schrank would like to see how you set that up on to push front sight. I have a slightly rounded 1911 slide fairly close to the front style on the demonstration you did.
