For people who don’t know what WIP is, it stands for Work In Progress
Congrats! Where did you go to get your literary agent? Did I miss the name? I researched if an author is self published, literary agents won’t touch the book. Is this true? How would you suggest I position myself to sell a self published children’s book? It’s being illustration. Thank you !
So, I got my literary agent after participating in pitch events via social media and then querying those who were interested. That is also how I got my book deal. I wrote and pitched a completely new book. While I try to not speak in absolutes, it is rare for an agent or publisher to want a book that has already been self-published. Many of them will explicitly state that. I would suggest checking out QueryTracker or MSWL for agents who rep children's books and then research those agents you are interested in to see what they are and aren't looking for. Hope this helps!

Hello. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not new to writing, but new to publishing and all of the official stuff. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am learning a lot through videos like yours. I wish to become an "agented" author soon. I put my first completed work on Kindle Vella just to test the waters. I was thinking of self-publishing on Kindle KDP but have also heard that agents like fresh authors that are unpublished so I'm on the fence about that. I signed up for my first writer's conference coming up in October. I'm excited but anxious because I feel like I am so green and don't know the lingo or the processes but I'm hoping to learn a lot when I get there and prayerfully meet some agents. I didn't even know about "pitch events" so that's something else I can research and prepare for. I notice in your description you reveal your pen name. Isn't it supposed to be secret? I thought so, but also was wondering how a person goes about promoting their books and doing book signings if they use a 'secret pen name'. Like I said, I am very green so there's a lot I don't know or only have learned from movies and tv. *blush*. Congrats on getting an agent. Your story is inspirational.
Congratulations for signing up for your first writer's conference! I've heard great things about attending those and how you can get questions answered by agents/editors/those in the publishing industry. Thanks for your question about pen names! I'll do a longer video about why I chose one and why I haven't really kept it a secret. The reasons for using one and whether or not you reveal that definitely varies. I have some author friends who use one pen name, multiple pen names, or non at all, so it is definitely dependent on the person.
Congrats! Lovely video. In terms of future videos, I'd love to know more about how you went from one book to plotting and writing the next two so quickly. Maybe some tips/etc. Thanks!
Thank you and noted! I will definitely create some videos talking about my process for plotting and writing.
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you so much!
Super helpful video! 🔥
Glad it was helpful!
